  Eugene "Sid" Nelson, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Upland Hills Health, Dodgeville. Gene was born on Jan. 2, 1928, in Preston, the son of Selmer and Roxy (Hugill) Nelson. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Core as a cryptologist, the study of secret codes and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. Gene then married the love of his life, Eileen Dochnahl. They were married on Nov. 17, 1952, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. He retired from the John I. Hahn Company after 44 years of dedication, loyalty and service. He also organized and managed the Dodgeville Little League Softball program at Centennial Park for many years which he thoroughly enjoyed. Gene was a loving, kind and devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. Gene is survived by his children, Lou Ann (Glen) Hocking of Dodgeville, Lynn (Tom) Evans of Dodgeville and Larry (Laurie) Nelson of Mineral Point; two grandchildren, Cole and Peyton Nelson. He also is survived by his sister-in-laws, Darlene Reilly, Joan Kirkpatrick, Marilyn Grim, Janice Meudt, Vonnie Dochnahl, Jean Dochnahl and Alice Nelson. Also special cousins Dr. Jerry Kempthorne, Dorothy Holman, Dick Hugill, Jim O'Flahrity; and many nieces, nephews, cherished friends and neighbors. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Roxy and Selmer Nelson; wife, Eileen; sisters, Mary Ann Nelson and Helen Larson; and his brother, Bill Nelson. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. (New Time) on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Father Paul Ugo Arinze will officiate. Inurnment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Dodgeville Area Veterans. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY and AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass on Saturday at the church.
