  Smits, Gerald S. 121 Elm Street, Combined LocksAge 88, died early Saturday morning, December 21, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Ho spital, Appleton. The son of the late Theodore Sr. and Lucy (McDaniel) Smi ts was born January 10, 1914 in Freedom. On January 30, 1937 he was unit ed in marriage to the former Elinor Steffen at Holy Cross Church in Kaukau na.Gerald was employed with Thilmany Paper Company for 46 years and was a Qua rter Century Club member.Survivors include his wife Elinor; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen a nd Diane Smits, Combined Locks; one daughter and son-in-law, Gerrianne (Su e) and Lyle Palmer, Kaukauna; nine grandchildren; ten great- grandchildre n; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Norval (Betty) Smits, De Pere; K en (Judy) Smits, Menasha; Floyd Smits, Kaukauna; three sisters and two bro thers-in-law: Loretta Schmalz, Kaukauna; Beatrice (Orville) Yingling, Whi te Lake and Dorothy (Jim) Rebitz, Florida.He was preceded in death by one brother, Theodore Jr.; one sister, Angi e; one grandson, Theodore and an infant son, Thomas.Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna Monday, De cember 23, 2002 after 11 a.m. until the time of service. Funeral service M onday afternoon, 1:30 p.m at the funeral home with Father Jack Mullarkey o fficiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna. A memorial fu nd has been established for Holy Cross Church.
