Greetings to all of you. Please do not think that this is some type of gen eric email or solicitation. My name is Jack Copet and I live in Milwauke e, Wisconsin, USA. I am descended from the Resch family. This is a surna me that all of you are familiar with. I found each one of you have contrib uted to the World Family Trees on Rootsweb.com and that is why I am contac ting you. Between the 68 of us in this email, there are many more. The re is over 2,400 listings of the Resch family on Rootsweb.com and I am su re that is just scratching the surface. My earliest Resch ancestor was Michael Resch, husband of Eva Holtzapfe l. He would have been born around 1760 or so, but I cannot find out wher e. His son, Joseph (b. 1797) is my link. Joseph was born at Bruck an der L ieitha. He later moved to nearby Breitenbrunn, Burganland, in what is n ow Austria where he served as the equivilant of a mayor. In 1855 he and h is family paid for their "release" from the Austrian-Hungarian empire to i mmigrate to America. They were allowed to go on the condition they never r eturned. From reviewing each contribution that you have made on Rootsweb.com, I ha ve seen that some other Resch families have settled in the same towns th at Joseph and his family lived in within the state of Wisconsin. There a re also Resch families that trace back to Canada, France and Germany. In having little success with church records in Breitenbrunn, it appears t hat the Resch family may not have been as established in the Burgenland ar ea as once was thought. When one puts themself in the past and looks at ge ography, traveling conditions, political environments, finances and soci al behavior, it is clear that people generally stayed close to relativ es in both Europe and America. In America, around the time of the Civil W ar era, when people slowly began to fan out to California, etc. In addition to the aforementioned things, one needs to point out that t he proximity of the villages in the old country were, generally speakin g, within a 60 mile radius or so. There were also the naming traditions wh ich I noted several of your Resch ancestors shared with mine. It is my bel ief that the reason any of you are stuck is not necessarily because of a l ack of records, but rather the fact that we have not explored other regio ns as a possible link, and not considering the overall picture and emigrat ion, border and empire changes, military obligations, civil jobs, etc. th at these ancestors knew and understood very well.I would greatly like to work with any (or all) of you in trying to piece t his immense history together. I do not believe that Resch was that comm on of a name like Smith or Miller, and when looking at the big picture I c annot escape the feeling there is more to these families than what we curr ently are seeing.Thank you very much for your time and I hope to hear from you soon!Sincere ly yours,
      Jack Copet
