  Peter Joseph Schuh Jr., Freedom, age 95, passed away on August 13, 2009. He was born at home in Freedom, WI, on October 3, 1913. He was the son of the late Peter Schuh Sr. and Anna (Schmitt) Schuh. Peter and Lucille E. (Blank) were married on June 7, 1945, in Neenah. Peter lived on and farmed the homestead farm (est. 1866) all of his life. The farm located on Center Valley Rd. has had the Schuh name on the mail box for 143 years. Peter was an active member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. He was an usher starting in 1942 and later a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1948, first in the Kaukauna Council then in 1982 became a charter member of the Father Peters Council #8061 in Freedom. Peter became a 4th Degree member and was part of the Honor Guard. In 1956, he was a member and stock holder in the newly organized Freedom Volunteer Fire Department. Peter was also active in the Freedom Golden Agers and volunteered weekly at Anna Johns nursing home, Oneida. In 1966, he received the Century Farm Award from the State of Wisconsin and in 1980 received a county conservation award for 25 years of participation. Peter and his wife Lucille enjoyed traveling. They were in most of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. They also made it to Europe and the Holy Land. His favorite pastime was playing Sheepshead and Scrabble and helping out the children. Survivors include the love of his life Lucille (Blank) Schuh, three sons and four daughters: Alice (Don) Bougie, De Pere, their children Jeff, (Nikki) Bougie and their children Gavin and Hunter; Randy Bougie (Lisa) and their children Addison and Hayden; Rebecca (Chad) Bass and their children Brandon, Brady, Brock; Peter (Cindy) Schuh, Freedom, their children Lisa (Joe) Vickman and their daughter Alison, and Jason Schuh; Arnold Schuh (Killed in Action in Vietnam Oct. 20, 1969); Lydia Smith, Kaukauna, and her children Chalyce, Brandon (Nicole) and their son Cole and Kyle Smith; Chris (Jerry) Vanden Heuvel, Kaukauna, and their children Todd (Amy), Dan and son Riley and Dave Vanden Heuvel; Greg (Connie) Schuh, Freedom, their children Melissa, Aaron, Tiffany, and Marcus U.S. Marine Corp; Steve (Doris) Schuh, Freedom, and their children Scott (Ann) and their children Jaden, Justice, Deni (Denny) Dobson and their children Cody and Griffin, Dana (Matt) Harcus, Derek Schuh, Jennifer (Ayron) Otto and their child Dakota, Joshua Schuh, Samantha Schuh; Laura (Joe) Schumacher, Hortonville and their children Justin and Phillip, his sister, Calixta Vosters and brother, Arthur Sr. (Millie) Schuh, a sister-in-law Lucille Schuh, and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter is further survived by his wife's family: Doris Blank and her daughter, Cindy (Roger) Smith. Peter was preceded in death by his brothers, sisters and in-laws: Clement Schuh, Ignatius (Martha) Schuh, Raymond (Bertha) Schuh, Servanus (Helen) Schuh, Gustave (Agnes) Schuh, Clara (Casper) Schauer, Anna (Hank) Vosters, Fr. Earl Schuh and Andy Vosters. He was further preceded in death by his wife's family: John and Lydia (Nehring) Blank, David Blank and Arno Blank. Peter's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2009, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends will be received on Sunday, August 16, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. concluding the evening at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna, and again on Monday directly at Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in his name. The family would like to express our thanks and gratitude to the caring staff at Parkside Care Center, Little Chute.
