  Born at 3:15 a.m. on a Friday. Spent his teen years at his dad's tavern. He was a good pool player. W as bartender for Peter Weiler when he ran a saloon at Oostburg, Wisconsin. Tom came to Auburndale area in 1915. He helped his brother Al on the ho me farm for awhile and then purchased half of his presonal. He farmed wi th his father who bought the rest of the personal and the land until he w as drafted. He was stationed in France during World War I. After he retu rned from war, Tom purchased his father's share of the personal and pa rt of the land his father owned. He operated the farm until 1952, at whi ch time Eugene took it over. Tom pitched for the Auburndale baseball team. He liked to play cards, fi sh and hunt. Built 60 foot barn in 1929. Remodeled house in 1933. The house burn ed on 12/20/1960. Built machine shed in 1942. First tractor was a 1936 F 121HC Farmall with steel wheels. Became postmaster of Auburndale on February 6, 1935. At that time, mo st of the mail came by train three or four times a day. The mail was al so dispatched by train. A two wheel mail cart was used to haul the mail b ack and forth to the train depot. As time went on, trains became less fre quent. In 1951, the post office was moved into larger quarters in the Wil cott building. It remained in that location for 20 years. Tom retir ed at age 70 on October 31, 1962. Had been postmaster for 27 years, 8 mon ths. He did not do much farm work after becoming postmaster. Tom almost died in 1949 with bursted appendicitis at age 56. After retire ment, stayed with Eugene. In later years, he alternated among the four bo ys. Died of a heart attack while deer hunting at age 79.
