LEROY DAHM One of Ozaukee County's best known and best loved peace officers, former C hief Deputy Leroy Dahm, 60, died Jan. 31 at Mount Sinai Hospital, Milwauke e. Chief Dahm had been ill with cancer. He had served as chief deputy of t he Ozaukee County Sheriff's departmentfor 20 years, from 1961 to 1981. He retired June 30. He had joined the She riff's department Jan 1, 1948 after serving witht eh Port Washington Poli ce Department for two years. During world war II, he was a member of the U .S. army air corps with the rank of second lieutenant. He served from Octo ber, 1944 to November, 1945. Chief Dahm was born May 30, 1921 in Port Wash ington to the late Jacob andHelen Blumenberg Dahm. He married Erna Heller of Grafton on Apr. 4, 194 2. He was a member of Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 and the Oza ukee County Sheriff's Association. He is survived by his wife, Erna, thr ee daughters, Mrs. Mack (Kathleen) Grempel, Caledonia, Denise Plutkowsk i, Port Washington, and Patricia Will- brandt, Fillmore. A son, Leroy, Po rt Washington, also survives.He was the guardian for his four nephews after the death of his sister, Be tty Groth. The four, Steve and William Groth, Sheboygan, Daniel, Canaby, O re and Allen, Madison, also survive. He is also survived by a brother, Dou glas of Atlanta, Ga. and a sister, Mrs Alfred (Evelyn) Mentzel, Grafton. F uneral servives were held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, Port W ashington. The Rev. Rolland Glass officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Ce m- etery. Visitation was held Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of serv ices at Poole Funeral Home, Port Washington. The family has suggested memo rials in lieu of flowers.
