  Political Leader at Kaukauna Dead After Long Career Was First Mentor in Town School - Served as First Chairman James Driessen, 85, who for the past half, century played an active part in the community life of Kaukauna and Little Chute, died at the home of his son, Edward Driessen, 134 Sarah-st, Kaukauna, at 6:15 Wednesday evening. He was the first chairman of the town of Kaukauna. He was born in Holland In 1845 and came to this country with his parents when he was 13 years old, settling in the village of Little Chute on a small farm. He taught the first school in the town of KTaukauna, the school building at that time being located at the intersection of Depot-st and Wisconsin-ave. He took active part in political life at Kaukauna, having been town supervisor, assessor, and a member of the common council for many years. It was during his term as town supervisor that the bridges were constructed across the Fox river at Little Chute and Kaukauna. He was a chartex member of the Knights of Columbus, branch number 12, Kaukauna, and served as secretary of the organization for 30 years. He is survived by two sons, Edward, Kaukauna, and Joseph, Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Peter Lewis, Little Chute and Mrs. Anna Glaser, Omaha, Nebr., and 20 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at Holy Cross church, Kaukauna, the Rev. F. M. Melchoirs officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery. The Rev. P. J. Lochman was in charge of the ceremonies and interment was in Holy Cross cemetery. Mr. Driessen was born in Holland but came to live on a farm near Little Chute when he was still .a boy. He taught the first school in this township. He was a member of the county board for a number of years and served as assessor and an alderman for this city. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, branch 12. Survivors are two sons, Edward Driessen of Kaukauna and Joseph Driessen of Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Peter Lewis of Little Chute and Mrs. Anna Glazer of Omaha, Neb.; and twenty grandchildren.
