Smith, Germaine M. " Geri"Germaine M. Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully with her family at her s ide on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She was bo rn in Little Chute on August 31, 1920, a daughter of the late Albert and A nna (Menting) VanGompel. Germaine married Marvin H. Smith on September 3 0, 1947.She was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Germaine w as very proud of the fact that she attained her GED Diploma. She was an av id Packer fan, animal lover and also loved tending to her garden and her l oving husband Marvin. She will always be remembered for "always being at h ome" when needed most. She was a very faithful wife, mother, Christian wom an. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.Germaine is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marvin; two sons: James ( Debbie) Smith of Little Chute; and Ronald (Mimi) Smith of Chicago; four da ughters: Patricia (Joseph) Brinsko of Winneconne; Karen (John) Derks of Ap pleton; Barbara (Michael) Dercks of Sobieski; and Jayne (Mark) Ziegl er of Hortonville; 16 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Germai ne is further survived by many dear friends and special nieces: Delores Mo ser and Doris Dietzen.She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters: Catherine Johnso n, Marie Powless, Clara Houle, Helen Heckel, Theresa Dietzen, and Leona V an Gompel; three brothers: Elmer, Omer and Willard Van Gompel.A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Germaine at 11 a.m. on Saturda y, January 28, 2006, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDona ld Street, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. A time of visitation and s upport will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the ti me of the mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, App leton.The family of Germaine would like to send a heart felt thank you to Dr.Wil liam Guenther and everyone at the Martha Seikman Cancer Center.
