  DIED AT ADVANCED AGE, WAS A LONG-TIME RESIDENT Mrs. Hendrika Vanderheiden Passed Away Thursday, July 9 Mrs. Hendrika Vanderheiden, a longtime respected resident of David City, passed away Thursday, July 9, at the advanced age of 89 years, 8 months and 17 days. Her last illness was of a month's duration. Hendrika Sanders, daughter of Joseph and Henrietta Sanders, was born in Breugel, Holland, on October 22, 1852, coming to America at the age of eight years. She grew to young womanhood in DePere, Wis., where she was married to Lambertus Vanderheiden in 1871. Two years later they came to Nebraska and Butler county, living on a farm in Center township until moving to David City in 1909. Twelve children, seven sons and five daughters, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Vanderheiden, of whom two Sophie M. and John J., have passed on. The surviving children are Peter Vanderheiden and Mrs. Mary T. Vanderheiden [Vandenberg] of David City, Henry Vanderheiden of Elgin, T. J. Vanderheiden of Nebraska City, L. L. Vanderheiden of Cedar Rapids, J. A. Vanderheiden of Valentine, George M. Vanderheiden of Casper, Wyo., Mrs. A. J. Schaaf of McCook, Mrs. Joseph Vanert of Norfolk, and Mrs. Henrietta Gates of Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Vanderheiden died on January 1, 1911. A pleasant, kindly woman, devoted to her family and helpful to those in need, Mrs. Vanderheiden made a host of warm friends during her long lifetime. She was a devout member of the Catholic church. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Murphy in St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Requiem mass was sung by the church choir. Mrs. Vanderheiden's six sons acted as pallbearers. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery in Center township. Among those in attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Peter Rutten and family, Mrs. Frank Theewen and daughter and Mrs. Anna Cleave from Cedar Rapids, L. L. Vandenberg and family and Mrs. G. Vandenberg and daughter of Spalding, Mr. and Mrs. Budig of McCook, William Vanderheiden and family from Humphrey and Mrs. Maybel Conley of Lincoln.
