  Russell Edward Hammes, 83, Green Bay, died unexpectedly Oct. 30, 200 2, at a local hospital. He was born in Rhinelander, April 25, 1919, to t he late Edward and Anna (Phillipi) Hammes. He married the former Kathle en Fox in Green Bay in 1939 and she preceded him in death May 10, 1977. Ru ssell graduated from West High School and later attended St. Norbert Colle ge. He owned and operated Northland Bottling Company on Franz Avenue unt il his retirement in 1974. Russell married the former Dorothy VandenBro ok on June 21, 1981, at Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Green Bay. He enjoy ed woodcarving, hunting, golfing, bowling, fishing, and skiing.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Green Bay; two children, Cassandra Sc herer, Milwaukee; Jeffrey and Lana Hammes, Madison; three grandchildren, M atthew Scherer, Anne Hammes, and Victoria Cook; five stepchildren, Nancy a nd John Herald, Green Bay; Michael and Kathryn VandenBrook, Oshkosh; Conn ie and Alson Cornell, Connecticut; Jacqueline and Gregory Thousand, Ani ta and Donald DeKeyser, all of Green Bay; 14 step-grandchildren; two great -grandchildren; nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen; one son, Rusty Ha mmes; one sister, Mary Mall; and one brother; Raymond Hammes.Visitation at WEST MASON MALCORE Funeral Home, 1530 W. Mason St., Friday f rom 6 p.m. until the time of the funeral service. Funeral service 8 p.m. F riday at the funeral home with Deacon Patrick Whitcomb officiating. Buri al at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
