  Emil Huss, 84, Freedom, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side Monday, December 10, 2012. He was born March 3, 1928, in Freedom, son of Emil, Sr. and Ella (Vandenberg) Huss. On June 24, 1952, Emil married his sweetheart, Anna Mae Vandenberg at St. Nicholas Church in Freedom. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a life time member and past commander of Freedom's VFW Post #7652. He was also a charter member of the Freedom Volunteer Fire Department, serving on the board of directors for 40 years, and was an active fireman for 28 years. Emil was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus Council 8061. He was employed by Miller Electric for 42 years until his retirement in 1993. In his free time, Emil was an excellent woodworker. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching his Packers, Brewers, and Badgers, and spending time with his family at their cottage in Lakewood. Emil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Mae; his children: Mark (special friend Patty Schmidt) Huss, Karen (Dave) Hurtgen, Kristi Wendt, Jeff (Michelle) Huss; grandchildren: Ryan Huss and Jason Hasty, Nicki (Gordy) Vandenberg, Kasey, Jordan and Nicole Hurtgen, Bailey, Kennedy and Gracie Wendt, Aubrey and Sophia Huss; a great-grandson, Jaxon Vandenberg; brothers and sisters-in-law: Casey (Judy) Vandenberg and Elaine (Don) Huss; and many special nieces and nephews and close friends. Emil was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clifford (Valerie) Huss; sisters: Linda (Jim) Garvey, Evelyn (Walter) Radloff, Marie (Art) Coffey, Georgette (Lawrence) Radloff; and his father and mother-in-law, Ed and Mary Vandenberg. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 15, 2012, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Road S, Freedom, with Fr. Dan Felton officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, until the time of the Mass. Full military honors will be performed by members of the United States Army and the Freedom VFW Post #7692. A memorial has been established in Emil's name. Emil's family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Theda Care at Home Hospice for their wonderful care shown to Emil. Published in Appleton Post-Crescent on December 12, 2012
