  Jack Stoddard, 86 of Appleton, died peacefully at home, with his family by his side, Friday January 25, 2013. He was born, February 26, 1926, in Valdosta, Georgia, son of the late, Frank and Miza (Hires) Stoddard. Jack married Frances "Tootie" Mercier, July 6, 1944. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2000. Jack went to Radio Technical School; he helped install the sound system at the Orange Bowl. He then went to work for Pan-American Airlines. Jack served his country honorably during WWII, in the U.S. Army-Air corps, as a radio technician, working on radio and underwater sound gear. He also taught as a radio instructor. After his career in the military Jack and Frances moved to Wisconsin. He began working for Wisconsin Bell (Ameritech) in 1946, as a telephone repairman, retiring in 1986. Jack was a member of the Telephone Pioneers; he belonged to the Optimist Club, the Manitowoc Safety Council, and the Manitowoc Chamber of Commerce. Jack was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Darboy. Jack is survived by his six children; son, Sean Stoddard, Appleton; five daughters, Terry Stoddard, Appleton, Kathleen Steffens, Green Bay, Jill (Paul) Stoeger, Darboy, Jean (Donavan) Lane, Waupaca, and Joan Stoddard (special friend, Jim Lundstrom), Neenah; seven Grandchildren, Doug Giffin, Ragnar "Jason" Stoddard, Angela (Anders) Erickson, Cody Stoeger, Travis Stoeger, Ben Lane, and Sam Lane; brother, Benjamin (Laura) Stoddard, Marshville, NC; special friends, Barbara Jean and Dennis Wagner; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. He was further preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia, and Mary Frances; son, Timothy; son-in-law, Denny Opay; brother, Norman; and sister-in-law, Jacque Mercier. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00PM, on Wednesday January 30, 2013 at HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH, DARBOY, W5831 Hwy KK, Appleton, with Fr. Dave Beaudry officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday January 29, at Valley Funeral Home beginning at 4:00PM until 7:00PM with a prayer service at 6:30PM. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, from 11:00 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either, St. Joseph Food Pantry, 1465 Opportunity Way, Menasha, WI. 54952; or the Salvation Army, 130 E. North St, Appleton, WI 54911. Jack's family would like to extend a special thank you to, Dr. Doug Meyer; the Martha Siekman Cancer Center staff, especially Dr. Avi Bar-Lev, and Jennifer Hart P.A; Jessica Lillie P.A. and the late Dr. Michael Chelske, at the Urology Institute of Wisconsin; Appleton Medical Center Emergency room staff, especially, Dr. Erica Meyer; and Ballard Road McDonalds crew, especially Erin and Becca, for all their care, compassion, and friendship they gave to Jack.
