  Jerome J. Timmers (Jerry) 1026 E. Northwood Drive, Appleton Age 76, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Franciscan Care Center. Jerry was born March 16, 1924, in Appleton, the son of the late John T. and Minnie (Penterman) T immers. He resided in Kaukauna until the age of one when the family moved to their Appleton d airy farm. Jerry was educated at St. Therese School in Appleton and St. John's High School in Litt le Chute, before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific and China during Wor ld War II. Following his discharge he worked at the family farm and Timmers Dairy. He also work ed at J.J. Plank where he was involved with their on the job training program. Jerry was united in ma rriage to Reta Schweitzer on August 13, 1949, sharing almost 51 years together. After his marria ge he was employed by Consolidated Badger Co-Op in sales and as a route supervisor. He lat er was self-employed as a manufacturers/representative, establishing Jeret Sporting Goods. Wh en he and Reta moved to Florida in 1966, he managed two different golf specialty shops in Sarasota. Duri ng this time he and Reta spent summers in Shawano at T's T Pee, building their "cabin in the wood s" on Deer Spring Lake. Jerry was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, American Legion Post 38 of Applet on and Knights of Columbus Council 607 of Appleton. He will be deeply missed by his wif e, Reta; his sister, Irene (Art) Hietpas, Little Chute; sister-in-law, Betsy Timmers, Appleton; sisters- in-law and brothers-in-law: Jane (Syl) Fischer, John (Midge) Schweitzer, Hazel Schweitzer; loving God so ns and God daughters (who were always there for us), Chuck (Ellen) Hietpas, Little Chute; Mary El len (Kieth) Fischer Zafranski, Livingstone, Montana; Mary Jo (Tom) Mennen Albrecht, Shawano; Tim (Pila r) Maas, San Anselmo, California; Steven (Mindy) Weyenberg, Madison; and Jerry's namesake, Je rry (Donna) Smith, Madison; also many other dear nieces, nephews, and caring friends and n eighbors. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Norber t, and infant brother Richard; two sisters, Lucille and Millie; God son Jack Scweitzer; and God daught er Mary Kay (Schweitzer) Rewer. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Au gust 3, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St. Full military rites will follo w. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. Thur sday until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Reta wished to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Anthony Phillips, D r. Steven Coenen (of the VA Clinic), Sr. Carol Haaen and nurse Suzie Periewitz of Theda Care Hospic e, and to the many caring professionals who cared for Jerry during his yearlong battle with cance r.
