  Irene M. Van Asten, 94, of Little Chute, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born March 1, 1920, in Boyd, WI, daughter of the late George and Rose (Klauson) Hermsen. Irene married Maurice Van Asten on May 22, 1944, at Holy Cross Church in Kaukauna. In her younger days, she worked at Zwickers Knitting Mill in Appleton. She was active in the St. Elizabeth Society at St. John's in Little Chute for many years. Her greatest joy came from being a mother and homemaker. Irene enjoyed bowling and was very proud of the trophies that she was awarded. She also enjoyed playing cards and trips to the local casino. Her Holiday dinners were always a special treat for the entire family. Irene is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Larry) Krueger, Crandon; son-in-law, Charles Pingel, Little Chute; three grandchildren: Tim (Nikki), Brad (Lisa) and Sari; seven great grandchildren: Aaron, Laura, Aidan, Charli, Mason, Abby and Sara; a sister, Evelyn Labine; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; a daughter, Carol Pingel; her parents, George and Rose Hermsen; a sister, Harriet (Charles) Van Rossum; a brother, Martin (Ester) Hermsen; two infant brothers: Johnny and Richard; brother-in-law, Leroy Labine; in-laws: Urban (Barbara) Van Asten, Elmer (Bernetta) Huss, Ambrose (Tillie) Wiegman, Melvin (Lexie) Van Asten and Cyrus (Jean) Van Asten. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St., Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.
