  John J. Wittmann, age 85, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012, with his loving wife and family at his side. On August 12, 1926, John was born the son of the late Michael and Mary Wittmann. He was united in marriage to Luella Larson on June 21, 1949 and had celebrated 63 years of marriage. John served in World War II. After returning from the service he went to work for the A & P as a butcher. In 1956 he went to work for Menasha Utilities as an Electrician and retired in 1989. John was one of the brothers founding Wittmann's Funland. John was an airplane enthusiast which was inspired in his youth when his father leased the farmland to incorporate George Whiting Airport in Menasha. He enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers. As a handyman, John was able to fix anything. He enjoyed gardening and growing pumpkins. John was known for his kind heart and was always ready to lend a helping hand to his family, friends, and neighbors. But most of all he loved spending time with his family, and will be missed dearly by his loving wife, Luella; his children: Michael (Carla) Wittmann, Dennis (Patti) Wittmann, Sue Wittmann (Steve Kratz); his grandchildren: John, Nathan, Shelly (Matt) King, Jim, and Marcus; his great-grandchildren: Rollie, Josie, and one more on the way; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wittmann. He is further survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers: Clarence Wittmann, Andy (Dorothy) Wittmann, and Milton; his sisters: Jeanette "Nettie" (Robert "Moose") Roehl, and Rosemary (Gordon) Mignon. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, July 25, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Martens-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee Street, Menasha. Visitation will again be held on Thursday morning at 9:30 am at the church until the hour of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
