  History of Northern Wisconsin
  Family History Researcher	William is the second child of John and Ellen Boylan Rice. He received his middle name Angelo from his godmother Lady Angelo. It is believed that Ellen Boylan Rice, his mother, worked for Lady Angelo before her marriage to John Rice. When William was a young man he learned to step dance "jig" beautifully. It is told he used a cane and tapped the legs of the dancers not executing the steps properly. He was an iron moulder which is the trade he used in Ireland and in New York before taking up farming in Wisconsin. William had cash to pay for his land in Wisconsin and did not have to homestead it like most of the immigrants. William was a little lame and used a cane. The use of the cane was explained by saying he fell off a horse riding to the hounds. William does not appear to have naturalization papers in New York but he did indeed arrive in the same sailing vessel that took the rest of the family from Liverpool, England to New York in 1847. On July 4, 1854 the Rices sailed on Lake Erie through the Great Lakes to Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin. William was very active in the community. He held the office of supervisor several years in Wrightstown, Brown County, Wisconsin, as an elected member of the Legislature in 1878, where he served with distinction and took and active part in organizing and establishing the Wrightstown Mutual Fire Insurance Company of which he remained one of the directors until his death. Honorable William Rice took an active part in establishing and maintaining the St. John`s Catholic Church at Morrison, Brown County, Wisconsin as did all the Rices. William is buried at St. John`s Catholic Church Cemetery in Morrison, Brown County, Wisconsin
