Cecelia Onkels, widow of the late Peter Onkels, had passed aw ay at the Wellandra Hospital, St. Catharines following a lengthy illne ss at the age of 53 years. Three daughters, Mrs. Martin Heindel of Kankanna, Wis.; Marie and Lena of Thorold, and three sons, Raymond, Alvis and P eter, all of Thorold, are left to survive the loss of an affectionate moth er. Biography:
ALBERT A. STEFFENS, a highly respected citizen of Black Creek township, Outagamie county, carrying on operations on a tract of 100 acres lying in section 25, Black Creek township, belongs to one of the old and honored families of this part of Wisconsin, and one that traces its ancestry back to the nobility of Belgium was born on the farm on which he now lives, May 21, 1859, a son of Joseph J. and Catharine (Herb) Steffens, natives of Belgium and Baden, Germany, respectively. The paternal grandmother of Albert A. Steffens was a member of the Royal family of Belgium, who by reason of her marrying below her rank was disinherited and given a, pension of $1,400 yearly. Leaving that country with her husband, she came to the United States in 1849, or about that time, the sailing vessel on which they were passengers taking a year and six months to make the journey, on account of terrific storms, disabling of the vessel and various accidents. One daughter of this couple had died in Belgium, and a son, Theopholus, remained in Belgium, being an officer in the Belgian army, but the remainder of the family came on to this country and made their way to Green Bay and thence by way of boat to Appleton, Wisconsin, there being no railroads at that early day the grandparents spent their lives here. Their eldest son, Edward, who never married, was a member and chairman of the board of aldermen of Appleton for twenty years and died about 1895, in Clark county, Wisconsin. The second son, August, was an officer in the Belgian army before coming to America with his parents, and when the Civil War broke out he enlisted and was commissioned a captain. After the war he returned to Belgium, where he was married, and brought his wife back to America, settling in Appleton, where he engaged in the retail liquor business for a few years and then establishing himself in the wholesale liquor trade at Red Wing, Minnesota, becoming quite wealthy. In 1888 he started on a trip to Belgium, to pay a visit, and met his death in railroad accident in Pennsylvania. The fourth son was Theopholus, who spent all of his life in Belgium. He was brought up and educated to become an officer in the Belgian army, in which he spent forty years, and at that time was retired and placed on the pension list with the rank of major general. He was given the Badge of Honor, which signifies continual service without violation of any rule or command while in the service for which punishment is inflicted, and this badge is now in the possession of Albert A. Steffens, who prizes it very highly. The eldest daughter was Alexandria., who married Nicholas Fresch, of Appleton, and died in Prescott Hospital about 1870. The second daughter, Leopoline, married Harry France, and died about 1876. The youngest daughter was Pauline, who married Francis Bernard and died in 1866.

Joseph J. Steffens, father of Albert A., was the third son of his parents, and he was a young man when the family came to this country from Belgium. He worked at various occupations in and around Appleton, Wisconsin, but eventually took up farming, as his father had claimed for each of the sons forty acres of land from the Government, under an act passed by the Government for the reclamation of the Wisconsin swamp lands. He sought out the forty acres that was his share, and this is a part of the land now owned by Albert A. Steffens in Black Creek township. He built a log shanty, where he lived all alone, working at various tasks for other settlers who needed his services, and as soon as he had accomplished the clearing of a small portion he planted it and carried the harvested crop to Appleton on his back. There were no roads at this time, and Mr. Steffens endured many hardships in his trips on foot through the woods, but soon he was able to purchase a team of oxen and he then considered himself a full-fledged farmer. During one of his twelve-mile trips to Appleton, he became acquainted with Catherine Herb, the daughter of one of the early settlers of the county, and they were eventually married and settled down to live in the little log home in the woods. In 1864, Mr. Steffens enlisted in Company E, Fifth Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the war, participating in the battles of Hatches Run, Fort Fisher and Petersburg, and being present at the surrender of General Lee. After completing his army service he returned to his farming operations, and acquired by purchase the land taken up by his brothers which had changed hands several times. Mr. Steffens served as assessor of Black Creek township from the time of its organization for fifteen years, and named the township after the creek that runs through its northwestern part. He died May 4, 1886, at the age of sixty-one years and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery near Five Corners, in Freedom township, while his widow survived him until May 6, 1892, and is buried near her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Steffens had five children: Albert A.; Amelia, who married Patrick Richev and died in Oregon in 1891, leaving seven children; Alexander, who died at the age of seventeen years, being accidentally shot while hunting deer; Pauline, who married John Raddemacher, and now lives in California, having four children; and Mary, who married John Nabbefeld, and lives in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Albert A. Steffens received but a limited education in the schools of his district, but this he later added to through much reading and study. He remained at home with his parents until his marriage, October 28, 1888, to Miss Matilda Huven, a daughter of Peter and Johannah (Nabbefeld) Huven, natives of Prussia, Germany, who came to the United States and settled in Washington county, Wisconsin about 1860, five years later coming to Outagamie county and settling in the town of Freedom. The mother died there in 1879, aged forty-four years, and the father then came to live with Mr. and Mrs. Steffens, at whose home he died January 11, 1899, aged seventy-two years. Mrs. Steffens was the fourth of her parents' twelve children, and was born April 12, 1863. Seven children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Steffens: Joseph, Johannah, Henry, Lawrence, Leo, Fred and Paul.

Mr. Steffens has engaged in general farming and stockraising and market dairy products, hogs and cattle and some grain. He is breeding to full-blooded Holstein cattle and Poland-China hogs and has a team of Percheron horses. His farm is fenced with barbed and woven wire and about ninety acres are under cultivation, and is a well-appearing, fertile and highly productive tract. Mr. Steffens is a member of the Catholic Knights Lodge No. 6, of Appleton, and is a Democrat in his political views, serving as clerk of the school board for four years. The family have always been connected with the Roman Catholic Church, and Mr. and Mrs. Steffens attend the church of that denomination in Freedom township.

Obituary:
Elizabeth Herb MacDonald, age 103, of Oshkosh, passed away Thursday morning, August 2, 2007, in Northpoint Medical and Rehabilitation Center. On February 8, 1904, she was born in Navarino, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Stadler) Herb. For 28 years she was a secretary for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Being a devote Catholic, she was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Aquinas Club of St. Peter's and the Third Order of Franciscans. She also was a member of the Wisconsin Council of Catholic Women and was the first woman of the Green Bay Diocese to become a member of the Serra Club. She was also active in the Wisconsin Right For Life. On August 28, 1928, she married Elmer MacDonald in Navarino. He passed away on October 3, 1984. Crocheting, playing cards and being active with her grandchildren were her hobbies.
Her memory will be cherished by her children: James (Charlotte) MacDonald of Woden, TX, Kevin (Melissa) MacDonald of Luguna Hills, CA, Angus MacDonald of Venice, CA, Hugh (Nanette) MacDonald of Oshkosh and Joan Campbell of Mosinee; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Joseph, Lawrence, Sr. Mary Helen, Sr. Mary Frances both members of the Order of the Medical Mission Society, Daniel (also known as Brother Eward of the Order of Alexian Brothers), John, Paul, Raymond, Alfred and Mary Ann.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007, in Most Blessed Sacrament (formerly St. Peter's Catholic Church) with Rev. Fr. Jim Jugenheimer as celebrant. Friends may greet the family from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday in the church. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. (EDT) Saturday, August 11, 2007, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeTour, MI, with Rev. Fr. George G. Vaniypurackal as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in DeTour.
The family would like to thank the staff in Alterra Sterling House in Oshkosh and Neenah, the Evergreen Retirement Community, the Northpoint Medical and Rehabilitation Center and the Heartland Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care they gave their Mother.

Peter J. Onkels Dies Suddenly
Peter John Onkels, 61, of 616 No. Forest St., died suddenly Tuesday aft ernoon while checking his daughter's horse at a South Side horse barn. Mr. Onkels, who was production manager for Pacific Coast Paper Mills, h ad driven his daughter, 13-year-old Stephanie to the barn and had sho wn no signs of the impending heart attack. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital by ambulance but was dead on arri val. A Bellingham resident for the past 35 years, Mr. Onkels was acti ve in civic affairs and had only recently been appointed a member of the p ark board.
ON HOSPITAL BOARD He was on the advisory board to St. Joseph's Hospital, and a memb er of the Bellingham Golf and Country Club, Bellingham Yacht Club and Be llingham Elks Lodge No. 194. Mr. Onkels was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Surviving him are his wife Carolyn M., at home; two sons Paul S. and Da vid G., both of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. Celia Kyllingstad, Seattle, a nd Stephanie, at home. Also two brothers, A. M. Onkels of Concrete, and R ay C. of White Rock, B. C.; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Cheevers and Mrs. Ma rie Corcoran, both in Ontario, and Mrs. Helen Heindel, in Wisconsin; a nd a granddaughter, Michelle Onkels, Seattle. Rose Lena Van Domelen Spooner, 91, Hillsboro, died Nov 24, 1994, at Tuality Community Hospital. The Holy Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial were held Monday afternoon at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Roy, with Rev. Stephen N. Breitenstein as celebrant. Interment followed in St. Francis Cemetery and a reception was held in the basement of St. Francis School in Roy after the rites. Mrs. Spooner was born Jan 6, 1903, in Roy, a daughter of Arnold and Mary Spiering Van Domelen. she was raised and educated in Roy. On Nov 16, 1926, she married Floyd A. Spooner in Roy. They lived in Forest Grove, Aloha, Portland, Sheridan, and McMinnville before moving to Carlton in 1935. Her husband died Jan 30, 1979 in McMinnville after more than 52 years of marriage. She continued to live in Carlton until moving to Beaverton in 1986 and had lived in Hillsboro since 1993. Mrs. Spooner was a homemaker. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Church and had served as the staff organist at St. Francis of Assissi Parish in Roy before her marriage. She enjoyed growing violets, sewing, and music. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Barbara Spooner, Richland, Wash., and Raymond and Kathy Spooner, Aloha; a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Bernard Mayer, Hillsboro; a daughter-in-law, Lavilla Spooner, Portland; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Heart Mountain homesteader Vincent 'Jim' Spiering died at his Powell home Feb. 8, 2011. He was 91 years old.
Mr. Spiering was born Aug. 26, 1919 in Hillsboro, Ore., the son of Charles Spiering and Lamberta Vanderzanden Spiering. He graduated from high school and military flight school and served in the Navy.
He married Lois Kathleen Hunker in Hillsboro on Nov. 24, 1947.
The couple homesteaded a farm on the Heart Mountain Project in 1950. He served on the Northwest College board of trustees and enjoyed flying, traveling and fishing.
Mr. Spiering is survived by his wife, Lois; five sons, Jerry (Lorraine) of West Linn, Ore.; Ken (Jeanie) of Spokane, Wash.; Gene (Susi) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Kelly (Sylvia) of Powell; and Tom (Janet) of Powell; a sister-in-law, Barbara Iten of Seattle; 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and a grandson, Michael.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at St. Barbara's Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14 at St. Barbara's. The Rev. Glen Szczechowski will officiate.
Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Raymond M. Heindel, age 72, d ied unexpectedly Thursday, September 15th, 1988, while fishing. He was bo rn September 2nd, 1916, in Kaukauna, the son of the late Martin and Hel en (Onkels) Heindel. Ray was a Kaukauna resident all of his life, and ser ved with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the Thilma ny Pulp and paper Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1979. He was a memb er of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, and the Quarter Century Club of t he Thilmany. Gene was employed by Thilmany Pu lp and Paper in Kaukauna for forty-three years as a laboratory technicia n. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and saw action in the E uropean Theatre. He was proud to have received the Purple Heart and the Br onze Star. James P. Heindel Sr., 83, a resident of Beaver Dam, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
Jim was born the son of Martin and Helen (Onkals) Heindel on July 3, 1928, in Kaukauna. He was a 1946 graduate of Kaukauna High School. Afterwards, Jim served his country in the U.S. Army, where he spent 1 ½ years in occupied Japan. After leaving the service, he attended St. Norbert College in DePere, where he graduated with a major in English and a minor in Spanish. Jim also spent two summers studying Spanish in both Texas and Mexico. He was married to Mary Brittnacher on June 22, 1955, in Wrightstown. Jim was employed for 38 years as a Spanish and Latin teacher in Beaver Dam retiring in 1989.
Jim was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam. He served on the St. Patrick's Parish board where he served as secretary. Jim was an active member of the Beaver Dam Lion's Club since 1956 and received their Distinguished Service award. He was a volunteer with the Beaver Dam Community Hospital since his retirement. Jim enjoyed playing golf where he had three holes-in-one; one at Old Hickory and two at the Beaver Dam Country Club.
Jim is survived by his devoted and caring wife of 57 years, Mary; his six sons, of Portland, Ore., Appleton, Neenah, Wausau, Ames, Iowa, and Rothchild; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild, his sister-in-law, Lorraine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ben, Ray and Gene, his sister-in-law Martha and his daughter-in-law Zana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 511 S. Spring St., Beaver Dam. A visitation will also be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam or to Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

LOCAL MAN DIES IN JET CRASH
Lt. Onkels Lost As Plane Goes Down in Ocean Lt. (j. g.) Peter J. Onkels Jr. was missing and presumed dead Monday af ter his Navy jet fighter crashed Saturday during an operational flight wi th his squadron off the coast of California. The 25-year-old Navy pilot was the son of Mr. And Mrs. Peter J. Onkel s, 616 Forest St. The family was notified Sunday that their son was missin g. Sunday would have been his 25th birthday. A later telegram from Lt. Onkels' commanding officer, Capt. James O. Co bb of the carrier Yorktown, said searchers had positively identified float ing debris as from Onkels' jet fighter.
SERVED AT ALAMEDA Onkels received his Navy wings in the summer of 1956, and had serv ed at the Alameda, Calif., Naval Air Station since that time. His squadr on was on an operational flight between Alameda and the Yorktown, about 1 00 miles offshore, when the plane went down. He was a graduate of Bellingham High School and of the Universi ty of Washington. His father is superintendent of Pacific Coast Paper Mill s, a division of Puget Sound Pulp and Timber Co. Surviving relatives in addition to the parents are two brothers, Pa ul and David and two sisters, Celia and Stephanie. Celia a recent gradua te of the University of Washington, was a 1954 Blossom Time princess.

Onkels, 26, of Bellingham, Was h., was killed Saturday night, the Navy said Monday, when his plan crash ed while making an approach on the carrier Yorktown, 80 miles off San Dieg o. Lieut. Onkels was a member of Fighter Squadron 92,based at Alameda Nav al Air Station. He was engaged in radar exercised when accident occurre d. He was flying a Butsheo jet.

He was born May 21, 1920 at 5 Corners, son of the late Joseph and Minnie (Ebben) Steffens. Rich was employed by the Modern Dairy, A.H. Nimmer Construction and retired from Thilmany Pulp and Paper in 1982. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels at St. Vincent DePaul and was an usher and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Rich was a 50 plus year member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1033, was a member of AARP Chapter 1843, the Kaukauna Moose Lodge and Friends of 1000 Islands. Rich was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers-in-law: Sr. Jane Frances Steffens, Sr. Leonare Steffens, Robert Corby and Lloyd Shimek; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Francis Steffens, Peter (Dorothy) Steffens, Nicholas Steffens and Lucy Steffens. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. George A. Steffens, age 95 of Fond Du Lac, formerly Kaukauna, passed away on September 27, 2016. George was born on August 11, 1921 in Kaukauna Wisconsin to Joseph and Wilhelmena (Ebben) Steffens. After he graduated from Kaukauna High School, George served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He served during WWII in the Pacific Theater. On February 20, 1946 he married the former Virginia Reinholz at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2014. George and Virginia resided in both Kaukauna and Fond Du Lac over the years and they also enjoyed their cottage near Brussels Wisconsin. George was employed with Kaukauna High School as a custodian for 28 years and he retired from there in August of 1982. He then took a part time "retirement" position at Sturgeon Bay High School for 15 years.
He will be sadly missed by: children Diane (Jerry) Wachdorf of Eldorado; David Steffens of Freedom; Christine (Kevin) Fisher of Salem Oregon; Michael (Pam) Steffens of Fort Wayne Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, one brother Melvin (Bev) Steffens and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, daughter-in-law Vicki Steffens and many siblings and their spouses.
Visitation for George will be on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna. A memorial Mass will be at the church at 11:00am Thursday with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Kaukauna. Two Kaukauna men will again set foot on United States soil after more than two years serving in the Pacific theater of operations. Technical fourth grade William J. Steffens and Pfc. William J. Van Dyke basic training together and left the United States in July of 1943 to join 43rd infantry wing victory division in the Solomon Islands. Both men were awarded the bronze arrowhead for participating in the initial assault waves to storm ashore on Luzon Island.
Technical Sgt. Steffens was awarded the bronze star, the Asiatic Pacific theater ribbon with three battle stars, combat infantry badge, the good conduct medal and the Philippine liberation ribbon with one bronze star.

Florence (Steffens) Bodde, of Kaukauna, age 80, passed away April 24, 2008, after a short battle with an unexpected illness. She was born June 30, 1927. She grew up in Kaukauna and married George Bodde on August 17, 1948. Florence is remembered for her love of faith, family, friends and music. She was a wonderful woman who dedicated her life to helping others in need. Early in her life, Florence was a kindergarten teacher's aide.
She was also an active member of the Christian Mother's Altar Society, the Outagamie County Homemakers, the head of "Hot Dog Day" at Holy Cross School, a member of the Extension Chords singing group, the Town of Kaukauna Planning Commission, and the Town of Kaukauna Historical Society. She was an avid volunteer at St. Paul's Home in Kaukauna. Her greatest love was spending quality time with her family and sharing her faith and love of music with others.
She is survived by her son, Wayne (Judy) Bodde, Kaukauna; her daughters: Joan (Chuck) Huss, Kaukauna; Laura (John) Evers, Kaukauna; and Rose (Russ) Vandeyacht, Sunsites, AZ; eight grandchildren: Bill (Melody) Bodde, Elizabeth (Bill) Inman, Abby (Mark) Sprangers, Martha (Tim) Lampe, Jackie (Marty) DeCoster, Charlene (Mike) Zuleger, Jenny Huss (special friend Andy Meyer), and Nick Evers; four great-grandchildren: Katelyn Bodde, Eli and Emma Inman, and Lillian Zuleger. Lorraine "Lorry" (nee Steffens) Corby, age 76, of Rhinelander, WI, and formerly of Green Bay, WI, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Lorry was born on January 7, 1931, in Kaukauna to Joseph and Whilomenia Steffens. She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1949. On September 12, 1950, she married Robert Corby. The couple lived in Green Bay until 1999. Lorry worked as a legal secretary for Everson, Whitney, Everson & Brehm for 22 years.
Over the years, Lorry was actively involved in many organizations including President of the St. Ann's Society at St. Patrick's Church in Green Bay and Co-President of the Home School Association at St. Patrick's. She was also a member of the League of Woman Voters, member of the Foundation for Global Community, Secretary of the Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, Secretary and Board of Director for the Mediation Center for Greater Green Bay, Hospice volunteer, member of the Curriculum Committee of the Institute for Learning in Retirement in Rhinelander, Committee Member GFWC Rhinelander Woman's Club for establishing the Labyrinth on the YMCA of the Northwoods grounds, member of Future of Peace Group, member of WW=P, and member and Board of Directors for the Oneida County Library Foundation. Lorry was a warm, loving, grace-filled woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Her extraordinary capacity to touch others in her dignified and gentle manner was her gift to all she knew and loved. Because of Lorry's presence in our lives, her peacefulness will be forever etched upon our hearts.

Obituary:
Agnes A. Cooper, 82, of Appleton, passed away on October 25, 2015 at her home, with her family by her side. Agnes was born in a rural area of Seymour Wisconsin to Henry and Mary Steffens. The family moved to Appleton in 1943. Agnes graduated from Appleton West High School and Business School. She was employed at General Adjustment Insurance, Claims Office and later at Associated Insurance, Claims Office. On June 20, 1959 Agnes was united in marriage to David A Cooper, celebrating 52½ happy years. David preceded her in death on December 21, 2011.
Agnes and David, the love of her life, enjoyed many activities including travelling, playing Bridge, entertaining family and friends as well as many other interests, including church. Agnes was a member of the Appleton Women's Club and the Appleton Lioness Club. She was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. She did oil painting, candle making and flower arrangements. She enjoyed working in her small vegetable and flower gardens and at during the holidays, she assembled a snow village and baked Christmas cookies and candies. Agnes was always willing and did help anyone needing help.
She is survived by her son James and his wife Laurie Cooper, grandson Cody Cooper, sisters: Mary and Don Worm and Helen and Phil Lampert, brothers: Elmer and Cindy Steffens, Vern and Denise Steffens and Gus "A.J." Steffens as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband David and her parents.

Elmer L. Steffens, age 78, of Menasha, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Monday, December 14, 2015. Elmer was born on February 26, 1937, in the Town of Seymour, to the late Henry and Mary (Platten) Steffens. He attended St. Mary Grade School and Appleton West High School. Elmer proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1961. He married Cynthia Farris on May 5, 1990, at Post Lake, Wisconsin. Elmer was a computer analyst employed at IBM, National Cash Register, retiring from Secura Life Insurance Company in 1996.

He was born January 26, 19 22 in Freedom, the son of the late Lawrence A. and Dora Steffens of Applet on. Ed graduated from Appleton High School in 1939. He served his count ry in the U.S. Army in World War II, serving under General Patton. Chuck was born December 31, 1923 to the late Lawrence and Dora Stef fens. He spent his childhood in Appleton and graduated from Appleton We st High School in 1941. Chuck served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He gra duated from the Business Institute, Milwaukee with a degree in accountin g. Chuck married Betty Hooyman, August 27, 1949, at Saint Mary Catholic Ch urch, Appleton. He was employed as a data processing manager by Kimberly-C lark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin, Memphis, Tennessee and Dayton, Ohi o. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service. Chuck was an avid read er and fisherman and enjoyed doing both at the same time. He also lov ed to garden (especially growing roses), woodworking, golfing, and bowlin g. He was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton. Chuck w as an active volunteer in church and civic organizations. He spent many ye ars as a Cub and Boy Scout leader in Memphis, Tennessee. Marge Baer, age 87, went to her heavenly home on Monday, April 21, 2014. Throughout her life she worked in the Appleton School System, Sears, and Kurz & Root. Marge is survived by three children: Sandra (Darrel) Alix, Sharon Mee, and Thomas (Karen) Baer; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother: Gene (Connie) Steffens. Mary Therese Keller (nee Steffens), 76, went to her Eternal Home on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Chandler, Ariz., where she resided the past several years with her daughter. Mary was born May 9, 1933, to the late Lawrence and Dora (Ebben) Steffens. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Mary graduated from Appleton (West) High School in 1951. She was involved with NARFE and Club 51 prior to her move to Arizona in 2005. Mary enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, bingo and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Kevin (Sally) Keller, Sun Prairie, Wis.; Catherine (Larry) Scheider, Chandler, Ariz.; and Keith (Lynn) Keller, Appleton, Wis.; one sister, Marge (Donald) Baer; brothers, Eugene (Connie) Steffens and Ken (Mary) Steffens; sisters-in-law, Betty Steffens-Engstrom, Cleo Steffens, Marian Steffens and Lynn Lodes; and brother-in-law, Ed Keller. Ken Steffens passed away peacefully at Appleton Medical Center with his partner Mary at his side on August 2, 2010, after a six-month battle with esophageal cancer.
Ken was born on May 27, 1942, in Appleton, the ninth child and sixth son to the late Lawrence and Dora Steffens. Ken was a lifelong resident of Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School in 1961. Ken enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving the country from 1964 to 1968. After being honorably discharged, he went to college and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with an Engineering degree. Ken worked for both Marathon Engineering (Appleton) and James River (Green Bay) as an engineer designing and maintaining equipment at all their plants. In 1995, Ken started up KLS Engineering and began to do independent electrical system design contracting, having a long and successful career. His last contract was this year in between cancer treatments and surgery. Ken was an avid bowler, loved to golf and do crossword puzzles in his spare time. He was a very skilled handyman, building their house from scratch and always lending a hand to anyone needing help.
Ken is survived by Mary Anaya and her children, Jesse, Roman, Chris, Mary Ann and Bob, grandchildren Morgan, Justin, Megan, Anna, Ethan and Kylee, his sister Marge Baer, brother Gene (Connie) Steffens, sister-in-laws Marian Steffens, Cleo Steffens and Betty (Denton) Engstrom.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Ed, Chuck, Larry, Florian, Ceil Smith and Mary (Don) Keller and brother-in-law Donald Baer.
Per Ken's request there will be no services held. His help and generous nature will be missed by all those close to him. The family would like to sincerely thank ThedaCare At Home for all their care and help over the last several months.

Walter J. "Wally" Steffens, 87, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 at home. Wally was born on March 6, 1929 to Fred and Jeannetta (Probst) Steffens in Little Chute.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Audrey Spaulding on September 5, 1955 and they had four children. On November 30, 1977 he married Ruth Rader. Wally worked for Fox River Paper for 45 years until his retirement in 1992. Wally loved music and played the accordion since he was 5 years old. He enjoyed playing any instrument and played for many weddings, senior living communities and events of every kind. Wally was a long time member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a volunteer for St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army.

John Leonard Steffens, age 80, of Appleton passed away April 12, 2014 in his home.
John was born on October 29, 1933 in Appleton, son of the late Fred and Jeannetta (Probst) Steffens.
He was united in marriage to Alice J Gloede on September 12, 1959 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Mackville. During their 54 years of marriage they raised three sons and a daughter. John worked at Pierce Mfg from 1967 to 1996. He loved playing his guitar and listening to live music. John was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton for over 50 years. He was a very active donor at the Community Blood Center, donating 20 gallons. But most important to John was spending time with his family.
John is lovingly survived by his wife, Alice; two sons, Brian (Joan) Steffens, David (Kathi) Steffens, Seven grandchildren, Ashley, Mathew, Natalie (Heather), Tyler (Destiny), Cerenity; and three great-grandchildren, Libby, Joshua and Sophia; his siblings, Walley, Ruth (Howard) Schwamer, Earl (Sandy), Alice (Ray) Moffke, Neil (Nancy), Don (Sandy), Brother and sisters-in-law, Sharon Lichtenberg, Dennis (Sheila) Gloede, and Nancy Eckberg. Appleton - Donald (Don) Steffens, 69, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center of Appleton after a long hard fight with cancer on March 3, 2018. Don was born December 22, 1948 to the late Fred and Jeannetta (Probst) Steffens. Don proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam War and earned two Purple Hearts along with various other metals for his service. Most of Don's working career he spent working at Rich's Bakery and then finally retired from Luvata in Appleton.
Don was married to his wife, Sandy, for 16 wonderful years and they enjoyed riding the Harley Davidson as well as traveling as much as they could together. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Steffens (Foster) and his son, Shane (Anna) Steffens, step-children Tammy (Mike) Cantrall, Paul (Lori) Barth and Tony (Jill) Mach, as wells as brothers: Earl (Sandy) Steffens, Neil (Nancy) Steffens; sisters: Ruth (Howard) Schwamer and Alice (Ray) Noffke. He is further survived by his grandson, Austin Steffens, 6 step-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Owen Steffens; his parents; sister, Rose, and brothers, Cyril, John, Walter and Robert; sisters-in-law, Alice Steffens and Ruth Steffens. Donna (Steffens) Bauman, 66, of Black Creek, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at her home. She was born August 14, 1949, daughter of the late Paul and Loretta (Linsmeyer) Steffens.
Donna was a 1967 graduate of Seymour High School. She was employed with Kaukauna Club Cheese for many years. Donna enjoyed traveling, fishing, and horses especially in her younger years.
She is survived by her siblings: Norbert (Ruth) Steffens, Norman (Mary) Steffens, Jerry (Dawn) Steffens, Marie Soffa and Rich (Linda) Steffens; sister-in-law, Lorraine Steffens; many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene and twin sister, Shirley and one brother, Joseph.

Obituary:
David George Spiering, 84, a resident of the Forest Grove community died, Monday morning, November 8, 2010 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, OR.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 12, 2010, at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church; 1660 Elm Street in Forest Grove.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Mass to be held at the Parish Hall. `
A private family committal service will be held following the reception at Mountainview Memorial Gardens in Forest Grove.
David was born on August 15, 1926 in Roy, OR he was one of seven children born to George and Mary (Vanderzanden) Spiering. He was raised on the family farm off of Greenville Rd in Roy and attended St Francis Catholic Grade School in Roy. He later attended Banks High School and Graduated with the Class of 1944.
David immediately enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served his country in the Pacific Theater, during WWII, as a gunner on an Avenger aircraft. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as an Able Seaman 1st Class
He met his future wife through mutual friends and after a year long courtship; they married on April 17, 1948 in Forest Grove, OR. Throughout their marriage they made their home within a square block of their first home moving into their present home in 1993.
David had worked for Stimson Lumber Company for 21 years, in 1968 he moved on to working for NW Natural Gas. He worked for NW Natural Gas until 1989 when he retired as a supervisor.
David was active at his church, St Anthony's Catholic Church, serving on different councils and planning committees, he was also very active in the Knight of Columbus, Adoration Society, Holy Name Society and the Isaac Walton League. He loved spending time with his family he was an avid sports fan and coached little league and umpired baseball for several years. David loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He also had a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying locally. After retiring he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home.
He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings; Richard, Jimmy, Herb and Donald Spiering and a great grandson; Colton VanBlarcom
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Beulah, five children and their spouses; Leah and Gregg McDonald of Aloha, OR, Fauna and Glenn VanBlarcom of Forest Grove, OR, Dan and Darcy Spiering of Lake Oswego, OR, Judy Brumfield of Oregon City OR, Jill and Bill Krueger of Gig Harbor, WA, 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, a sister Evelyn LaBella of Portland OR, and a brother Norman Spiering who passed away the same day as David, several hours later.
