    Funeral services for Raymond J. Demerath, 83, of Creighton were held on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at St Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton. Father Keith Rezac officiated the 11:00 a.m. service with interment at St. Ludger Cemetery in Creighton.
    Raymond J. Demerath, son of John Sr. and Elizabeth Losselyong Demerath, was born on September 25, 1916 at Stanton, the oldest of eight children. As a young child, he resided with his family on a farm in rural Brunswick.
    Ray attended District 22, Brunswick and St. Ludger Catholic School, Creighton until the eighth grade. He helped out on the family farm until approximately 18 years of age and then traveled throughout the Midwestern states working at various jobs. Several years later, he returned and settled in the Brunswick area. He was married to Ruby Skokan on June 18, 1941 at St. Ludger Catholic Church. Ray and Ruby are the parents of five children, Judy, Larry, Patty, Phyllis and Lois.
    DuRing the years of their farming career, they lived in rural Brunswick, Creighton, Tilden and moved to Norfolk in 1982. Ray still continued to commute to his cattle operation on his Tilden farm for several years, Upon selling this farm, he immediately became involved in many activities in the Norfolk community.
    After earning his GED degree from NECC at the age of 76, he began tutoring others in the program. Ror many years he was an active member of the Norfolk Men's Chorus and still continued this when they moved back to Creighton. At age 60 he earned his pilot's license, purchased an airplane and spent a lot of time traveling.
    Ray was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church, Creighton, belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a past member of the Norfolk Men's Chorus.
    Ray passed away at the Creighton Care Cretre on July 29, 2000 at the age of 83.
    Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruby; children, Judy Rech of Pleasant Hill, CA., Larry of Valley, Patty and husband, Ray Cerny, of Kearney, Phyllis and husband, Merle Weber, of Plainview and Lois Tiemann of Villa Park, IL; 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; brothers, John Demerath Jr. of Creighton; sisters, Ann Jelinek and Betty Tichy of Verdigre and Dorothy Frisch of Creighton. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Helen Demerath; grandson, Jeffrey Weber; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
