    Clemens M. Nickel, 94, formerly of St. Peter, Wis., passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. Clemens was born in the Town of Brothertown, Calumet Co, on Feb. 7, 1913, a son to Edward and Josephine (Steffes) Nickel. On April 22, 1946, he married Esther Berenz in St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. As an infant, Clemens' family moved onto a farm in the Town of Calumet and he farmed there until his retirement in 1978. Clemens was a former member of the Fond du Lac Co. Swine Breeders Association where he showed many prize-winning pigs. He was a founding member of the Town of Calumet Fire Department. Clemens was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg and the Holy Name Society. For many years he greatly enjoyed raccoon hunting with family and friends. He had a good time playing cards with grandchildren, family and friends. Clemens was often seen cheering at the sporting events of his grandchildren. After his retirement, Esther and he also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.
    Clemens is survived by Esther, his wife of sixty-one years; two children, Dave (Joan) Nickel, Pipe and Dianne (John) Ausloos, Mt. Calvary; five grandchildren, Scott (fiancee, Michelle) Nickel, Appleton; Devin (special friend, Mario) Nickel, Los Angeles; Cory Nickel, Manitowoc; Katie (special friend, Wesley) Ausloos, and Kari Ausloos, both of Mt. Calvary; one great-grandchild, Trenton Nickel; one sister, Elfrieda (Neil) Torssell, Sleepy Eye, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Donna Steffes, Taycheedah and Agnes Berenz, New Holstein; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    He is preceded in death by one brother, Ervin and two sisters, Marcella Bertram and Esther Laudolff.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. The Rev. Joseph Coerber and the Rev. Leander Nickel, a cousin, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 22, 2007, from 4 until 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 4 p.m.; and visitation on Wednesday morning from 9 until 10 a.m. A Memorial Fund in his name will be established.
    The family of Clemens would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Villa Rosa Assisted Living, Villa Loretto Nursing Home and St. Agnes Hospice Hope and Home Care for their excellent care of Clemens and their support to his family.
