    Obituary:
DIED - WEIX - At the home of his daughter, Mrs. John V. Roller, 418 S. Spring street, this city, at seven o'clock Saturday evening, December 4th, 1915, Mr. Lawrence Weix, aged 85 years, 3 months and 24 days.
The death of Mr. Weix on Saturday evening marks the passing of another from the rapidly thinning ranks of the early pioneer settlers of Dodge county, he being at the time of his death the oldest settler of the town of LeRoy where he first settled with his wife in 1854. Mr. Weix was also a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in Co. A of the 45th Wisconsin infantry and was the last surviving member of his company.
He was born at Munich, Bavaria, Germany, on August 10, 1830. He grew to manhood at that place, received his early education and learned the trade of millwright and later became a miller. When he reached the age of eighteen years he came to America, landing at New York City, where he remained for three years and then came west to Muskego, Mich., and later to Milwaukee.
At the latter place he was united in marriage to Barbara Bachhuber in 1854, and a little later in the same year they moved to the town of LeRoy in this county, where the greater part of their married life was spent. At LeRoy he successfully operated one of the first saw mills in this section of the state, and the bulk of his product was hauled to Horicon by team, there to be worked up into seeders and drills at the plant of the VanBrunt-Davis company.
For thirty years Mr. Weix continued to operate his saw mill and then engaged in farming, which occupation he followed until fourteen years ago.
In 1901 he came to Beaver Dam to make his home, Mrs. Weix passing away here about six months after their arrival. Following the death of his wife, Mr. Weix went to Colby, Wis., where he made his home with his children until August of the present year. He then returned to the scenes of his earlier life at LeRoy and after a few weeks spent there, he came to Beaver Dam. He was taken ill several months ago and gradually became more feeble until the end.
Mr. Weix was at the head of a family on one hundred and eleven direct descendants -- twelve children, sixty-five grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren. The children, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral, are Mrs. J. V. Roller, Mrs. John A. Welsch, Mrs. John Budde and Xavier Weix of this city; Martin Weix and Mrs. Andrew Dechsner of LeRoy; Joseph, Lawrence, Michael and John Weix, Mrs. Paul Umhoefer and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl of Colby, Wis. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs Sagstatter of Oregon. Two children preceded the father in death -- Mrs. Mary Schrafnagel, who passed away at Colby at the age of 54 years and one child passing away in infancy.
The funeral services were held at St. Peter's church at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning with interment in St. Peter's cemetery, Rev. Fr. George J. Muenzer officiating. Six of his sons acted as pallbearers at the church, while the remaining Civil War veterans of Beaver Dam attended in a body and acted as pallbearers at the grave. The veterans who attended the service in a body were: Wm. Coxshall, C. P. Clark, T. S. Johnson, Henry Klass, Wm. Schneider, George Stegner and Andrew Veling.
Among those from out of town who were in attendance at the funeral were: Joseph Heimerl, Mayville; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Scrafnagel and son of LeRoy; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wild of Pierce county; Henry Scrafnagel, John Weix, Colby; Miss Alma Schrafnagel, Glidden; Andrew Bachhuber, Mrs. Moritz Lehner, Mrs. Theresa Bachhuber of Mayville; Alois Steinburg, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Koch, LeRoy.
