    Obituary:
At six o'clock Monday evening, March 9, the bell of Mary's church tolled for the death of one of our worthy citizens, John Lex, who passed away at his home in the second ward at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 22 days. The deceased was born in Germany, Oct. 16, 1842, and in 1854 came to America with his parents, who located in Washington County, this state. In 1872 he came to Calumet County and purchased a farm three miles west of this city. The same year he was married to Katherine Winkler and they remained on the farm for thirty-three years, when they rented the farm to their son, John H., and moved to this city to spend their old age in a quiet. Mr. Lex was a hardworking, frugal man and after his retirement from the farm took delight in going back to aid his sons in the work. About a year ago his health began to fail and some six weeks ago he was obliged to take to his bed. He was a true Christian, a loving husband and devoted father. He leaves a widow four sons, John H., Felix, Frank and Will and four daughters, Mrs. Pauline Stadtmuller of Oshkosh, Mrs. Anna M. Koeppel, Misses Cecelia and Katherine of this city, to mourn his death. The funeral took place Thursday morning from St. Mary's church and was largely attended by relatives and old neighbors and friends, who held him in high respect.

He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
