Obituary:
Cora Jane (nee Beilke) Boyle was born on Oct. 20, 1918. She passed from this world at the age of 95 on Oct. 21st, 2013. She was at her home in Vancouver, WA, with her family close at hand. She lived a rich and full life, and touched many with her positive spirit, sense of humor and wisdom. She was born and spent most of her life in Appleton, WI. At the age of 16 she met the love of her life, Clarence Joseph Boyle, and they were married in 1937. They had four children. As a young woman in junior and senior high school Cora gave permanents, shampooed, cut and set hair, and like most, did babysitting. After she graduated from Appleton High School, Cora worked at many jobs including dress shops: Polly Frock (manager), Diana Porter (manager), Gloudeman's, Bea Franks, Nadel's, Rose Shop, and the J.C. Penny's Women's Department. She also worked at Kresge's, Woolworths 5/10, Gabriels, Wisconsin Inc. Tax office, and a Canning Factory. After retirement she helped her son and son-in-law with the books at Gillespie and Boyle Service Center.
Cora was an avid volunteer and gave her time and energy to: Homemakers (president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, chairman), Appleton Vocational School, United Commercial Travelers Social Group, Hammond Organ Society (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer), Fox Valley Woman's Business and Professional Club (treasurer), Boy Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader, PTA (president), and Appleton Clothes Closet (secretary). Cora was an active and lifetime member of her church, Emmanuel United Methodist in Appleton, WI. She enjoyed Circle and Bible classes and served meals at the church.
Cora and Clarence liked to attend the theatrical and musical productions that came through town. She and Clarence also enjoyed the outdoors and spent many happy hours at camp sites around the state of Wisconsin. Cora had an artistic streak, she taught herself to play Hammond organ by ear and enjoyed crafts such as sewing, quilt making, embroidery, and cross stitch. She developed a love for painting landscapes late in life and shared her artwork with many family and friends.
Cora and Clarence moved by train to Vancouver, WA, in 2006 to live with their daughter, Judith. While living in the Northwest she enjoyed many trips to the Oregon Coast and the Columbia Gorge. She was known as Grandma Cora to many in the Northwest who were grateful for the opportunity to have her at many family gatherings and events. She became "grandma" to many and was dearly loved by young and old alike.
Cora was born to Esther and Alvin Beilke, her siblings, Aroniel, William and Charles, all preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Joseph Boyle, their child, Bobby (died at birth), her daughter-in-law, Mary Boyle and son-in-law, William Gillespie, as well as most all of her generation, family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Judith Gillespie of Vancouver, WA; James Boyle (Pam Nault) of Appleton, WI; and William Boyle (Patricia Boyle) of Appleton, WI; her grandchildren, Robert Boyle (Linda Boyle) of Green Bay, WI; Patrick Boyle (Norma Boyle) of Scandinavia, WI; Suzanne Gillespie (Phillip Crawford) of Portland, OR; Michelle Hill (Richard Hill) of Appleton, WI; Geoffrey Boyle (Jennifer Boyle) of Appleton, WI; and William Boyle (Elizabeth Boyle) of Appleton, WI; her great-grandchildren, Liam and Lauren Boyle of Appleton, WI She is also survived by those she considered family - that she requested be listed here - grandchildren, Matthew Benotsch (Jessica Merkner) of Eugene, OR; Nikki Sanderfoot (Carl Sanderfoot) of Appleton, WI; Chris Nault (Brenda Nault) of Hudson, WI; great-grandchildren, Edward James Richard Benotsch of Eugene, OR; Elizabeth Sanderfoot of Appleton, WI; and Sophia and Alivia Nault of Hudson, WI. She will be remembered by her many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and godchildren. Cora Jane was comforted in her last years by frequent calls from her godchild, Nancy Stilwell of Maiden, NC, and niece Donna Babuskow of Chicago, IL.
Cora Jane learned she had gallbladder cancer on October 9, 2013 (her wedding anniversary). She had the opportunity to call and say goodbye to many family and friends before she passed. She will live in our hearts forever.
