    Henning, Laura A.Laura A. Henning, 101, of Black Creek, passed away Monday morning, July 1 0, 2006, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour. She was born Janua ry 18, 1905, in the Township of Black Creek, the daughter of the late Jo hn and Louise (Riehl) Volkman. On June 16, 1926, she was united in marria ge to Edward Henning in Black Creek. He preceded her in death Februa ry 7, 1996. Laura was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Bla ck Creek, and the Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed gardening flowers, her app le orchard and visiting with people.She is survived by her daughters: Shirley (Merlin) Heiden, Donna (Ralph) S chmidt, Judy (Marvin) Samson, all of Black Creek; her daughter-in-law, El la Conant, Black Creek; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two gre at great-grandchildren; and one brother, Orville Thaler, Florida.He was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her son, Arvon; great-gra nddaughter, Christy; and 13 brothers and sisters.Friends may call at the Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, 358 S.     Nolan W. Volkman, age 93, Black Creek, entered his heavenly home early Sunday morning, Jan. 25 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born Oct. 27, 1915, in the Town of Black Creek, son of the late William Sr. and Anna (Kettner) Volkman. Nolan was united in marriage to Ethel Henke on Nov. 28, 1940. She preceded him in death Oct. 12, 2002.
    Nolan was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Black Creek. He farmed in the Town of Bovina and Town of Center until his retirement. His gentle and easy going spirit made him loved by all that met him. Nolan served on the Center Valley Cooperative Board, Board of Regents Fox Valley Lutheran School, served on the church council and various other committees. He enjoyed playing polka music by ear with his accordion and also played violin, drums, trombone, harmonica and piano. He enjoyed dreaming of fishing as he worked in his apple orchard. He had a love for animals.
    He is survived by his children, Jean (Ronald) Hinkfuss, Bonduel, Ellen (Verlin) Sellin, Waupaca, Ralph (Sandy) Volkman, Black Creek, Linda (Dennis) Tiedt, Appleton, and Lance (Mary Jo) Volkman, Black Creek; twenty grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren. He is further survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Arthur Henke, Rita Volkman and Dorothy Henke.
    Preceded in death by three brothers, Orval, William Jr., and Lyle; one sister, Beulah Brugger; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church Black Creek on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, from 4 until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steve Schlicht and Pastor John Brandt officiating.     Norman Edward Kasten, age 94, died peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2016 with his family at his side.
    Norman was born August 10, 1921 in the Town of Black Creek the son of the late William and Anna (Volkmann) Kasten. Following his education Norman served his country in the United State Army during WWII, from August 1942-November 1945 in the South Pacific. He was united in marriage to Betty Anne Brower on August 19, 1950 at the First English Lutheran church in Appleton. Norman was a Dairyman in the Black Creek area for a number of years and was formerly employed with Fox Tractor and Vic Timm construction and retired from Gilbert Paper in 1986. Norman was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Appleton serving on the church council, the Fox Valley Lutheran Board, taught Sunday school and volunteered on the church grounds committee.
    Norman is survived by his wife, Betty of 65 years, a daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Marx, a son, Brian Kasten, grandchildren, Jason (Summer) Marx; Greg Marx (Kim DeBraal); Tracy Kasten (Mike Suess) and Brenda (Josh) Vandenberg; great-grandchildren, Aurora and Delaney Marx and Isaac Vandenberg and a sister-in-law, Ione Murphy, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, John and Lucille Brower, sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and William Schulzendorf; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Katherine Kasten and a niece and a nephew.
    The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church 530 W. Parkway Blvd Appleton, with the Rev. Mark P. Henke officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Norman's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Military Honors will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.

    Ruth Louise Gehrke, age 91, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. She was born at home on November 8, 1919, daughter of the late Edward and Saloma (Tiedt) Volkman, the second of five children. Ruth proudly attended Center Valley Grade School and graduated from Seymour High School. She was married to the love of her life, her prince; Howard H. Gehrke on April 13, 1941. Together they shared 50 years of marriage until his death in November 1991.
    Ruth was a content housewife/mother, accomplished seamstress, excellent cook. She joyfully served her church, Immanuel Lutheran, Black Creek, as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher, active member of the Ladies Aid and wrote letters included in bulletins sent to shut-in members. She served her community as a volunteer at Black Creek Grade School and as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Ruth supported Fox Valley Lutheran through financial gifts, and membership in Ladies Guild.
    She was preceded in death by: parents, beloved husband, Howard; daughter, Sharon; granddaughter, Kerry Lynn; brothers: Arnold, Waldemar and Carl; brother-in-law, Ralph Gehrke.

    Waldemar G. Volkman Wally 83, Appleton, passed away unexpectedly at his home Wednesday December 5, 2007. He was born March 1, 1924 to the late Edward and Saloma (Tiedt) Volkman in Black Creek, WI. He married Elaine Meltz on July 27, 1946 and she preceded him in death on March 21, 1999. He worked at Valley Press and as a custodian for the Appleton Area School District until his retirement. Wally was a longtime and active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Appleton. He was an avid sports fan and lifelong Packer season ticket holder. Besides being a devote Christian Wally enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandson Brady.
    Survivors include his daughters: Barbara (Steven) Suchan Reedsville and Susan (Joseph) Buchberger, Appleton; three grandchildren: Michelle (Steven) Rosenbaum, Darboy, Michael Luebke, Darboy and Brady Buchberger, Appleton; two sisters: Ruth Gehrke, Black Creek and Vera (Orville) Zuberbier, Black Creek; a brother Arnold (Marjorie) Volkman, Black Creek.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine; brother Carl and brother-in-law Howard Gehrke. Funeral services for Wally will be held at 11:00 am Saturday December 8, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church (900 N. Mason St.) Appleton, with Rev. Judy Deckert officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am until the time of services Saturday at the church.

    Donald E. Schultz, age 87, went to heaven on Thursday, November 21. Don had a deep and abiding faith. He had exceptional knowledge of the Bible, was a hard worker and a loving and caring family man.
    Don was born on April 20, 1926 in Greenville, Wisconsin. He was the second of nine children born to William and Ella (Volkman) Schultz. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenville. Don worked at the gas station in Greenville, Fox Tractor Company until it closed and at A & E Equipment.
    On June 16, 1956 he married Elaine Lohrenz at Center Emmanuel United Methodist Church. They were happily married for 42 years and raised three daughters, Deb, Sue and Sally. Family was important to Don and there were many family outings and vacations. He especially enjoyed several trips to North Dakota. Don loved spending time with his grandchildren, Brandon, Josh and Jessica. A sadness in his life was when Elaine passed away on April 1, 1999.
    Don was a member of Center Emmanuel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a long time Sunday School teacher for the adult class. In addition, he was church treasurer for many years. He and Elaine were involved in adult fellowship group, Don played dartball and attended men's breakfast.
    Don enjoyed gardening and had a huge garden where he spent many hours. Don and Brandon fed birds together and took care of his apple orchard. Family reunions were a special time for him. He liked talking to people. Animals were a big part of Don's life. The family had pet dogs and cats. He helped his father-in-law milk cows and fed the many barn cats. Don enjoyed the simple things in life, Sunday dinners with the family, jigsaw puzzles, talking about farming, spending time with family and friends, and reading-especially his Bible, newspapers and farming magazines.
    Don is survived by his daughters, Deb (Rich Ralph), Sue and Sally of Hortonville; grandchildren Brandon, Josh and Jessica; sisters Dorothy Defferding, Caroline Schroeder, Bernice (Don) Vanderloop, Barbara Herzfeldt, Mary Ellen (Earl) Schroeder, Janice (Don) Schroeder, Lynn (Bob) Spaulding and brother Gerald (Loretta); brother-in-law Bob (Donna) Lohrenz; many cousins; nieces; nephews and friends. He was preceeded in death by his wife Elaine; parents; brother-in-laws Keith Defferding, Wally Schroeder, and Clarence Herzfeldt.
    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11:00 am at Center Emmanuel United Methodist Church, N3896 Hample Road, Black Creek (Town of Center) with Rev.     Black Creek - Dennis Lee Defferding, 65, of Black Creek, passed away Friday morning, March 9, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born August 15, 1952, son of Dorothy (Schultz) Defferding and the late Keith Defferding.
    He served in the US Army from 1972 to 1975. On February 24, 1979 he was united in marriage to Sharon Mc Niesh, having celebrated 39 years of marriage.
    Dennis worked as a custodian at the Shiocton School for over 20 years prior to his retirement. He cherished his family, especially the grandchildren.
    He is survived by his wife, Shari; his two sons: Scott (Julie Heindl) Defferding and Eric (Sara) Defferding; grandchildren: Cassidy, Logan and Hayden; mother, Dorothy Defferding; siblings: LuAnn (Ken) Huck, Nancy (Glenn) Neff and John (Lisa) Defferding; mother-in-law, Lorraine Mc Niesh, brother-in-law: Bill (Lois) Mc Niesh; sister-in-law, Donna (Bob) Koch; and best friend, Dave Betters.
    Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 201 E. Birch Street, Black Creek on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 9:30 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Steve Schlicht officiating. Military honors will take place at the church.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dennis's memory.

    David Volkman, age 40, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, September 30, 2012. David was born in Appleton on September 30, 1972, son of the late Donald Volkman and Sharon Phillips of Appleton.
    He is survived by his wife: JoAnn Volkman of Neenah, and their daughters Summer and Angel; his mother: Sharon (Charles) Phillips of Darboy; a sister: Tammy (Ricardo) Gonzalez of Neenah; maternal grandmother: Ruth Lee of Lima, Pennsylvania; an uncle: David Lee of Brookhaven, Pennsylvania; his mother-in-law: Maria (Juan) Flores of Omro; two step-sisters: Tammy Jo (Don) Forrest of Illinois and Sarah (Karl) Guenther of Berlin; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Donald in 1975, his brother Troy in 2003, and by three grandparents.
    A funeral service for David will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, with Rev. Tim Albrecht officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the services.
