    Aerts, Earl E. "Shorty"
    Earl E. "Shorty" Aerts, 85, Allouez, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1921, in De Pere, son of the late Louis and Nancy (Pries) Aerts. Earl served in the United States Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946, stationed on the USS Mosely, a Destroyer Escort. While in the Coast Guard Earl earned Area Campaign Medals as well as Operation Engagement Stars for his service to his country. He married Jean Ann Jansen on Oct. 8, 1946, in De Pere. He was employed as a Boiler Technician at Nicolet Paper Company for 40 years, retiring in 1986. Earl enjoyed bowling, gardening, small game hunting, and had built the three homes his family lived in. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere.
    Survivors include his wife, Jean Ann, Allouez; four children, Barbara (Jon) Lutgen, Greenleaf; Gary Aerts, Allouez; Margaret Smits, Howard; and Mary Brick, Bellevue; grandchildren, Melissa Aerts and her son, Dakota, Milwaukee; and Natalie Smits, Howard; brother and sisters, Nancy (Jim) Seiler, Eva (Jim) Schumerth, Grace (Norb) Desotel, and Reuben (Edith) Aerts; sisters-in-law Shirley Aerts, Jeannie Aerts, Chesterine Aerts, Catherine Jansen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Earl was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; four brothers, Victor, Adrian, Marvin and Kenneth; a sister, Maxine; two sister-in-laws, Fern Aerts and Rita Laguna and a brother in law Richard Jansen.
    Family and friends may call 3 to 7 p.m. (TODAY) Friday at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. Funeral service will be held 7 p.m. (TODAY) Friday at the funeral home with Deacon Kurt Grube and Rev. Ted Tromble officiating. Military honors will be conducted immediately following the funeral service. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
    Earl's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the 9th floor staff at St. Vincent Hospital and Care Givers Darlene, Nicole, and Lisa (Earl's niece) for their care and support.
