    Two Kaukauna young women, Mary Catherine Hatchell 22 and Madelyn M. Noie 22 have enlisted in the Marine Corps women's reserve.

    Staff Sgt. George Noie received his honorable discharge from Fort Sheridan Illinois after completing four years of service in the Army, two of which were spent overseas and the European theater of operations. He was attached to the 36th infantry Regiment of the third armored division. The former staff Sgt. has been awarded the following decorations, ETO ribbon with five bronze stars, the American defense ribbon, good conduct ribbon, Purple Heart with two clusters, combat infantry badge and the presidential unit citation. Noie was wounded at Normandy in June 1944, in Belgium January 1945 and in Germany March 7, 1945.
    Pfc. Madelyn Noie arrived home Friday evening from the Marine Corps Air Station at Mojave, Calif. to spend a 15-day furlough here.
    George and Madelyn are the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Noie Depot Street.

    Obituary:
    Madelyn "Maggi" Weisgerber, age 96, of Appleton passed away on November 27, 2017 at a local hospital. Maggi was born July 11, 1921 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin to Frank and Nellie (Weyenberg) Noie. She attended Holy Cross Elementary School and Kaukauna High School, graduating with the class of 1939. She served her country honorably during WWII as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Maggi worked several different jobs over the years, but she especially loved the eighteen years she spent as a crossing guard for the children of Edison Elementary School in Appleton.
    In 1946 she married James "Jim" Weisgerber, her "Eternal Love". They enjoyed over fifty-six years together before he passed away on May 24, 2002. Maggi and Jim spent many weekends and summers at their cottage on Lake Poygan. She loved baking cookies and bread for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also an avid Packers, Badgers and Brewers fan.
    She will be sadly missed by: her son Richard (Kristine) Weisgerber, grandchildren; Todd (Suzy) Weisgerber and their children Brady, Jakob and Zachary; Amy (Craig) Batley and their children Gavin, Conner, Lauren and Ava; special niece Jan Barnes as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, and siblings: Norbert (Adele) Noie, Harold (Merelda) Noie, John (Christine) Noie, George (Audrey) Noie, Marie (Oliner) Miller, Gen (Melvin) Walsh, Lucille (Tom) Flynn and Trudy (Mark) Kubat.
    Visitation for Maggi will be on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 10:00am to 11:30am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday at the church with Fr. Adam Bradley officiating. Interment with full military honors to take place at 2:00pm at St. Joseph Cemetery, 1528 N.
