    Obituary:
    Bekx, Theodore "Ted"
Theodore Bekx, of Kimberly, age 76 years, died on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Aarle-Rixtel, Holland, the son of the late Eduardus and Lourina (Nooyen) Bekx. Ted immigrated from Holland to Missouri in 1950 and soon after was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War and received an honorable discharge following an injury. Upon his return from the war he received his American citizenship. Ted came to Appleton and on July 27, 1957, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly, Petronella Gietman became his bride. He was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mill for 37 years retiring in 1992. Ted was the last employee to retire prior to the plant closing. Nellie and Ted enjoyed their summers at the lake and winters in Texas for the last 14 years.
He was an active member of the St. Paul parish and was involved in the parish gardens, grounds keeper and choir. He trained mass servers and participated in many other church ministries. Ted was involved with the VFW, board of directors at Appleton Area Credit Union (now Community First) and was a Scout leader. He volunteered at Appleton Medical Center in the Cancer Unit and was a member of Heart of the Valley Senior Service Club. Most importantly, he enjoyed the treasured time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He came and left this world as a simple man, and this world is a better place because he was here.
Ted is survived by his loving family, his wife: Nellie Bekx, Kimberly; children: Edward (Katie) Bekx, Kimberly; Chris (Dan) Verbeten, Appleton; Peter (Karen) Bekx, Little Chute; Ted Jr. (Amy) Bekx, Reedsurg and Paul (Tracy) Bekx, Madison; grandchildren: Robbie, Danny, Sean and Lauren Bekx; Josh Verbeten; Jordan, Amanda and Parker Bekx; Andy, Jason and Sammy Bekx; Adam and Sarah Bekx; brothers and sisters: Petronella, Henricus, Maria, Leonardus, Eduardus, Gorardous, Johanna, Bernardus and Laurina. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Gordina and brothers: Johannes, Martines, Marines and Henricus Bekx and a granddaughter Christine Bekx.
The funeral liturgy for Ted will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace St., Combined Locks, with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Inurnment will take place at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery, Kimberly. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Robert Ferrante, the staff at the Appleton Medical Center and the cardiac rehabilitation center for all of their compassion and care.
