Espinosa, Sylvia Mae (McKellip) - Sylvia Espinosa, age 80, Omro, formerly of Neenah, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, following a short illness at Mercy Medical Center. She was born August 22, 1926, daughter of Archie and Mae (Broas) McKellip. Sylvia married Robert Ford and he preceded her in death. She married Sy Espinosa and he also preceded her in death. She was a resident of Omro Care Center and had previously resided at Vallhaven Care Center, Neenah.
Residents of Neenah and Menasha will remember Sylvia as the little quiet lady with the short arms that walked constantly throughout the cities for many years. Walking was her passion until arthritis prevented it further. Sylvia and her brother Archie were both results of the use of thalidomide for morning sickness by there mother before the effects of this medication were known. She spent the first 5 years of her life in the Shriners Hospital in Chicago undergoing numerous operations. She did not let the physical handicap affect her life and just got on with it.
Sylvia is survived by her brother, Carl McKellip, Douglas, Wyoming; nephew, Thomas Schmidkofer, Menasha and niece, Connie Meier, Neenah; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Archie Jr., Robert and Donald; her sisters: Elaine (McKellip) Meier, and Deloris (McKellip) Bartell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Joel Schlachtenhaufen officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m Wednesday until the time of the service. A memorial has been established for St. Mark's Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
