1895 Kaukauna Sun dated 1 Nov 1895 ;Peter Diedrich has returned from Byron, three miles up the river from Gra nd Rapids, where he has been engaged for the Grand Rapids Paper & Pulp Co ., building a dam. He will return again Monday or Tuesday; he will be empl oyed by Hubert Neissen, of Kaukauna, who has charge of all the mill wor k. Peter is a hustler on dam or any water work. This is his fourth dam bui lt on the Wisconsin river and several on the Fox river. The dam at Byr on is in the main channel - 759 feet long, 268 feet of same being 35 fe et on base and the balance 22 feet at base. Dyke on island is 391 feet lon g, 32 feet on base and has 7 sluice ways. The dyke on west end is 29 5; 32 feet on base and 22 feet on top, making a total length of the dam 10 32 feet. Total length of dyke 686 feet. Dam was completed in three and one -half months. Dam has twelve feet head of water.
