While I was in Holland, Francien Coppens drove down a big boulevard in S'Hertogenbosh and showed me a store on a corner. She said that was your birthplace so I took a picture. But now you said that your family moved from Helmond to Den Bosh in 1905. So where were you born? All of the kids were born in Helmond, Noord Brabant (a province of the Netherlands- there are eleven). Your informant must have taken that for granted, as three more children were born in the store. All of them died shortly after birth.

Do you have any idea of the name of the ship that your father came to America on in Jan of 1909? Do you know also the names of the "shirttail relatives" he followed to Kimberly? The ship was from the Holland American Line and was the Noorddam, while we came over with a ship of the same line, the Potsdam. The only "shirttail relations" Dad wrote to was Henry De Koster, who must have known Dad in Holland and was no true relative. Just a friend.

Could you trace the route you took in 1909 from S'Hertogenbosh to Kimberly? By river speed boat from S'Hertogenbosh to Rotterdam, by ocean liner from Rotterdam to Cherbourgh, France, then to New York, U.S.A. By train from New York to Chicago, then by another train from Chicago to Little Chute, Wisconsin. Landed in Little Chute at about seven at night (was pitch black and we walked to Kimberly about one hour later.) France was only a short stop, to pick up other passengers.

Have you ever been back to Holland since 1909? No, never was interested, but all of the people that have come to visit us marvel at the things we can describe about it.

I have heard stories that Grandma Kate almost became a nun. If so, could you elaborate? How did you two meet? Where did your wedding take place? Were you still in the army when you married? I met her thru Case, who was dating her at that time, in late 1916, went to the army in late 1917, married her on May 13, 1919. (Her birthday was May 16, hell on presents, anniversaries and birthdays, so I combined presents for both days, which always made her laugh, she thought it was not fair, because I got a anniversary present and also a birthday one.) Married her in Little Chute, where she lived. We have lots of pictures showing Kate with Sisters and her Aunt Lucina was her constant companion when the Sister was home for vacations. Dated her about six months, then she gave me the door, because she still was not certain that she wanted to marry, because she thought she would rather join the convent. Two months later she wrote me a not asking me if I still cared about her and you can imagine that I did not wait long to ask her for a date. Thirteen months later we were married.

Have you ever heard of Camp Grant in Illinois? What town was it near? It probably isn't around anymore. No, it's been dismantled after World War I. It was the biggest camp in the United States, to assemble troops and give basic training. It was located near Rochester, Illinois.

Did Casey go to the same places (in the Army) as you did? Do you have any service papers or naturalization papers that you could photocopy for me? Case was gone six months before I went and came home three months after we received our discharge, three months after I was married. I came home of January 14, 1919. He was with the Sixth Army band, playing clarinet, first choir, with the Sight Seeing Sixth, which traveled all over Europe during the war. Have picture of him with his band. As for copies of all papers, in Appleton Courthouse they cost 75 cents per copy, and too costly for me.

I asked Mom about your participation in the Kimberly Band and she told me to ask you. Did you lead it? For how many years? Do you have any pictures of the band? Case and myself joined the band (12 members) in November 1909 and the choir in the church the same day. (A month after we got here, at Dad's insistence.) I was never a Director, but was Drum Major for a number of years. At that time we had 44 members, starting in 1926 and I quit in 1941 so I could devote more time to Veterans work. On concerts, I played the first choir of the trombonists (slide trombone).

Lawrence M. DeGroot, age 88, Kimberly, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Colony Oak Care Center. Larry was born November 13, 1920, to the late John and Johanna (Haanegraf) DeGroot. On June 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Joanne Lueck at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Lawrence was a World War II Air Force Pilot stationed in Texas and had been an active member of the Wm. Verhagen American Legion Post #60 in Kimberly. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He was very close to his family and enjoyed the times spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Joanne; his five children: Mike DeGroot, Mark DeGroot, Jon DeGroot, Larry (Teresa) De Groot, and Kris (Don) Van Roy; 14 grandchildren: Scott (Lisa) DeGroot, Lisa (Bruce) Keeth, Jill (Scott) Thayer, Tara (Jim) Burkhart, Rachel (David) Osterling, Carrie DeGroot, Misty DeGroot, Matt (Amber) DeGroot, Lindsay DeGroot, Emily DeGroot, Jacob DeGroot, Kayln Van Roy, Cody Van Roy, and Sam Van Roy; nine great grandchildren; three sisters: Ella DeWees, Evelyn Riley, and Theresa Sanders. Paul C. DeGroot, formerly of Kimberly, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006, at St. Paul Elder Services surrounded by his family. Paul was born in Combined Locks on April 24, 1923, son of the late John and Johanna (Hanegraaf) DeGroot. The former Patricia Schultz became his bride on June 9, 1951, in Menasha; she survives. During World War II, Paul served as a member of the United States Army Air Corps and was a former member of the William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion in Kimberly. Paul began working for The Post-Crescent as a photographer, and retired later as a circulation supervisor. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and keeping fit. Many will recall his willingness as a volunteer at both the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels.
Paul is survived by his wife of fifty-five years: Pat DeGroot, Kaukauna; a daughter, Nancy Vandenberg, Appleton and her children Gordy, Tim, and Kristin; a son: Jeff DeGroot, Appleton; a brother, Lawrence (Joanne) DeGroot, Kimberly; three sisters: Ella DeWees, California; Evelyn Riley, Appleton, and Theresa Sanders, California.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law John Vandenberg in 2001, brothers: Adrian, Ambrose, Eugene, Jack, and Maurice; and sister, Mary Lou and Grace.

Sail boat Capsizes The De Groot boy. son of Mr. about 2 o clock Saturday afternoon in the Fox river between Little Chute and the Combined Locks Turn to page 4 col 1 dam. He had been sailing with three companions, Charles Ver- beten, John Smaxwell, and Russ- ell Weyenberg. The boys were able to swim. but De Groot went down as they tned to make shore after the wind capsized their boat. The body was recovered within an hour. An inhalator of the Little Chute Fire department was used but without success. The victim was a sophomore of the Kimberly High School. John "Jack" C. Hanegraaf, age 79, Darboy, Passed away "Right on Time" on November 8, 2013 at a local Hospital. Jack was born on January 2, 1934, or as Jack would say 1,2,3,4, to Cornelius "Casey" and Betsy (Verstynen) Hanegraaf. Jack served with the Army from 1954 - 1956 as a Tank Commander in Company B, 7th Tank Battalion and was discharged honorably. His first job was with Bridge Way Drive In, a family owned business. Later he joined his father's business, United Grocers, which later became Roundy's. His final place of employment was with Pierce Manufacturing where he retired after ten years of service.
First, you need to know, Jack added "Life" to any occasion or situation with his wit and humor. He was such a comedian and he could always get people laughing. Here are just a few of Jack's sayings: Never say "Hi Jack" on an airplane; Wherever you go, there you are; Spread out! If a bomb drops we're all dead; and the infamous - "whatch-a-ma-call-it" by the "Thing-a-ma-jiggy"
Jack was a very talented artist, sculptor and inventor. Two of his inventions were the hidden snow ski binding and his favorite one, the "Tab Toppler", a handy ring device that made opening beverage cans easier. He had an extremely creative imagination. He was a wonderful husband, an awesome father, a brother, an uncle and he had a personality that was bar none. He was loved by all. Jack loved horse shoes, without the horse (because horses scared him) and golf whenever he had a chance. He had a great love for his family and was his children's biggest supporter. Jack was the foundation of instilling wholesome Christian values and giving us a strong work ethic. He shaped us (along with our Mother) into the people we are today. He was involved in the church in many ways throughout his life. As an artist, he carved a statue of our crucified "Jesus" that was shown at Holy Angels church in Darboy for over 15 years.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Gail of 52 years, three sons, Kevin (Vicki) of Greenville, their twin son's Kade and Kyle; Peter (Wendi) of Crete, Illinois, and their five children, Chloe, Silas, Levi, Jude and Caleb; Stewart (Tasha) of Greenville, and two children Ashley and Rachael; and a daughter, Melissa (Gerry) of Seymour, and their three children Eli, Taylor and Jacklyn.

Francis (Bud) Hanegraaf, age 86 of Bullhead City Arizona, died Friday April 27, 2012 in Henderson Nevada. Bud is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Hanegraaf, son David Hanegraaf, daughters Sandie Fraits, Jodie Hazenberg, and Carrie Blake, sisters Dean Shultz, Germaine Nachel, Joan Frassetto, MaryBeth VandeLoo as well as 13 grand children and 8 great grand children. Bud was preceded in death by sisters Pauline Giordana and Rita Foster.
Bud was born in Kimberly Wisconsin to Martin and Katherine Hanegraaf. He resided the last six years in Bullhead City Arizona. A veteran of WWII, Bud served from 1941-1945 in the European theater and was a recipient of several military honors including the purple heart.
Bud retired from Point Mugu Pacific Missile Test Center where he worked on range communications for many launches including the STS-1 the first space shuttle Columbia.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm Thursday May 3rd at Fiesta Resort, Bullhead City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Bud's memory.

Kimberly - Joan R. Frassetto passed away on March 26, 2018 to meet her Lord and Savior. She was born at home in Kimberly on October 26, 1926, the middle child of Martin and Catherine (Hartjes) Hanegraaf, and was baptized the same day by Rev. F.X. VanNistleroy, Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish.
She attended and graduated from Holy Name of Jesus Grade School in 1940, Kimberly High School in 1944, and Appleton Vocational School in 1946. She held secretarial positions at Geenen Dry Goods Department Store, The Institute of Paper Chemistry and the Appleton Apostolate. She was active in YCW at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton and was affiliated with scouting for many years, having been leader and den mother of many girl and boy scout troops. She was raised in a musical family, sang in numerous church choirs and was a member and officer of Chaminade Women's Chorus in Appleton.
On July 24, 1948, Joan married her high school sweetheart, Francis "Fras" Frassetto at Holy Name Church, in Kimberly where they spent their entire married lives, raising their family. When her children were enrolled there, she taught Religious Education, served on the School Board and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was involved with the elderly and shut-ins of the Parish and was a leader of the early morning Communion Service for years.
Joan enjoyed sewing and knitting, crossword puzzles and Scrabble. She and Fras loved to travel, taking the family from coast to coast in their quest to touch all fifty states. They were avid golfers as members of Mid-Vallee Golf Club in DePere. They loved taking the grands to the Ice Capades and other theatrical productions in and around the valley. Her last few years were spent making, and of course, sharing memories with her 'great eight, her grands and great grands. She was extremely interested in genealogy and spent time in the Netherlands and Italy to further that hobby. Joan was also a voracious reader.
She is survived by her children: Vickie (Gary) Gossens, Mary Fran (Tom) Erickson, Tina (Ed) Keller, Gino (Nancy) Frassettto, Joe (Patricia) Frassetto, Lisa (Mike) Stumpf, Frank (Lori) Frassetto, and Paula (Jim) Vander Loop.
There are twenty-five grands who will miss her love and affection: Sara (Tom) Vanden Heuvel, Eric (Kas) Gossens, Gina Gossens, Kari (Jeff) Surman, Ron (Kathy), Drew (Katie), Matt (Chad Calmes) Erickson, Jason (Jenny) Keller, Nikki (Matt) Chevalier, Adam (Andrea) Keller, Jana (Jeff) Thompson, Heather (Darek) Stuber, Nick (Ashlie) Frassetto, Jenny Larson, Katie Stumpf, Angie (Nick) Hoople, Ben (Dayton) Stumpf, Dustin (Michelle) Stumpf, Mary (Chris) Kuna, John, Robert, Anna, Frank, Jr. Frassetto, Kurt and Jared Vander Loop and three step-grandchildren.
Joan also has twenty-six great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Drew Vanden Heuvel, Wesley and Easton Surman, Jessica, Bradley, Everett and Isla Erickson, Charlie, Mallory and Trey Keller, Amber, Taylor and Payton Chevalier, Andrew, Logan and Josephine Thompson, Alysha Stuber, Kyler and Kaleb Frassetto, Sativa and Gage Larson, Vincent Hoople, Ali Jo, Brandon and Natalie Stumpf, and six step-great grandchildren.
Surviving Joan are her three sisters: Deane Schultz, Germaine Nachel, and Mary Beth Van De Loo. Also surviving are 35 nieces and nephews including her God-children: Bobbi Jo Haen, Beth Ann Van De Loo, Jodie Hazenburg, Christopher Schultz, and Dan Foster.
Joan was preceded in death by Fras (2001) her partner of 54 years, an infant son, John, two grand-daughters: A.J, and Alena Frassetto, a great-grandson, Ryan Stumpf, her parents Martin and Catherine, her only brother Francis "Bud" (Betty) Hanegraaf; sisters: Pauline (Bob) Giordana and Rita (Ken) Foster; and brothers-in-law: Bob Schultz, Bob Nachel, Ken Sorenson, Jack Marquardt and Jim Van De Loo. Also preceding her were Fras' parents: Gino and Theresa Frassetto; his sisters: Barbara (Ray) Van Dalen and Marjorie; and his brothers, Robert, Ernest and Eugene.
There will be a Mass of celebration on Monday, April 2nd at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Parish - Holy Name of Jesus Church, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Dave Pleier officiating and Fr. Bob Kollath concelebrating. Friends may call at church from 9:00 AM till time of service.

Foster, Rita Mae, On November 22, 2008, at the age of 77, the Lord saw that Rita could no longer endure her 12 year battle with Alzheimer's disease and called her home.
Rita was born December 5, 1930, in the home of her parents, Martin and Kate Hanegraaf, in Kimberly, WI. Kimberly remained her home along with six siblings until she graduated from Kimberly High School in 1949.
Rita married Ken Sorensen October 7, 1950, and left Kimberly to be with him at the Air Force base in Chicopee Falls, MA, where sons Claude and Mike were born. When Ken's tour was over they moved back to Neenah, WI where sons Jeff and Kevin were born. While in the process of building their first home, on August 4, 1955, Ken was taken from his wife, their four young sons and an unfinished home during the polio epidemic. Family and many friends pitched in to help finish the house. Rita raised her four boys alone until she met Ken Foster and they were married on May 4, 1957. Ken lovingly adopted the four boys. Together they added three more children, Jill, Steve, and Dan.
Over the years Rita enjoyed many hobbies. One of her greatest talents was sewing. With six boys and one girl she made all her daughter's dresses and also sewed many of the boy's shirts. She enjoyed knitting on her knitting machine and made beautiful scarves, sweaters and afghans. Each year she made hand crafted items and gave them as gifts. At Christmas we could always count on Rita to make peanut clusters, sea foam candy, fudge and fruitcake.
Ken and Rita enjoyed traveling in their motor home, snowmobiling and were avid boaters. They instilled the love of boating, swimming and water skiing in all of their children. Rita also worked part time at Schneider National Trucking in Neenah for eight years until Ken's retirement from the Neenah Police Department in 1987. They then made their home on Lake Winneconne. During retirement Rita and Ken enjoyed their winter home in Florida. Rita also kept active tap dancing with Reverend Ruge's group and would entertain others with their lively routines. One of her favorite pastimes was taking the bus and socializing to play Bingo.
Rita leaves behind her husband Ken, their children: Claude (Chris) Foster, Neenah; Mike (Katie) Foster, New London; Jeff Foster, Omro; Kevin (Peggy) Foster, Talkeetna, AK; Jill Appel, Menasha; Steve (Karen) Foster, Neenah; Dan (Amy) Foster, Neenah. She is further survived by 14 Grandchildren and five Great-Grandchildren. Along with her sisters: Bernadine (Deane) Schultz, Germaine (Gim) Nachel, Joan Frassetto, Mary Beth Van De Loo; brother, Francis (Bud) Hanegraaf (Betty) and sister in law, Jackie Spilski, along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her and waiting to greet her in heaven are her first husband Ken Sorensen, her parents, Martin & Kate Hanegraaf, her sister and brother in law Pauline (Pope) & Bob Giordana, brother in laws Bob Schultz, Bob Nachel, Francis (Fras) Frassetto, Jim Van De Loo, and Joe Spilski, her mother in law Marie Sorensen, and her father & mother in law Harry & Isabell Foster.
The family would like to extend our deep and heartfelt thanks for the support and loving care extended to Rita by hospice: especially Mary, Barbara, Rachel & Ellen, as well as Rhonda and the caregivers at Care Partners Assisted Living in Little Chute where Rita spent her final days.
A Celebratory Mass of Rita's life will be at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Neenah, with Father Richard Allen officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday, November 28th at 9 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Margaret's Cemetery. Elayne was very intrumental in establishing Kount ry Kickers Line Dancing at the Thompson Senior Center, in Appleton. She al so participated in numerous musicals and plays and tap dance with the Rhyt hmettes. She enjoyed traveling, spending most of her winters in Mesa Villa ge, Arizona and she especially enjoyed visiting with her granchildren, goi ng fishing, golfing, ceramics and organizing family events. Elayne h ad so much spark and life; she loved life and lived it to the fullest. Jeri M. Van Deurzen, Combined Locks, 82, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, surrounded by her family. Jeri was born on Feb. 1, 1926, in Kimberly, daughter of the late Mathias and Minnie (Hanegraaf) Busch. Jeri married Paul "Dunk" Van Deurzen on June 25, 1952, in Kimberly at Holy Name Catholic Church. They were married for 41 years before Dunk preceded her in death on July 5, 1993.

Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
An additional gathering will be held on July 31st, at a time and place to be determined.

Jeffrey John DeGroot, age 53, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, March 27, 2010. Jeff was born on August 22, 1956, the son of Paul and Patricia DeGroot. Jeff was a 1974 graduate of Kimberly High School. He enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, windsurfing, kayaking, movies and books.
Jeff will be sadly missed by his sister, Nancy Vandenberg of Appleton; niece, Kristin (Gregory) Johnson; nephews: Gordy Vandenberg and his fiancee, Nicole, and Tim Vandenberg.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Paul DeGroot and brother-in-law, John Vandenberg.
Funeral Services for Jeff will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Fargo Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jordan Kuczwara officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jeff's name.

Mary Pat Vande Hey, 55, Freedom, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 26, 2 005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 31, 195 0, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. Her family moved to Tomah, Wis ., a couple years later, where she grew up and spent her childhood. At t he age of 27, she moved to Freedom to start her own family. She was a carr ier for The Post-Crescent. A job she truly enjoyed, delivering the daily n ews to residents of Freedom for 15 years. Mary Pat loved music and dancin g, camping and the outdoors and, of course, her Green Bay Packers. She w as creative beyond words, whether it be interior design, building or the f abulous Halloween costumes made to celebrate her husband's birthday. DeGroot, Ricky L., Combined Locks Age 47, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 28, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV. He was the son of Ann (Resch) DeGroot and the late Eugene DeGroot. Rick married the love of his life, the former Kelly Kluge on November 7, 1992, in Appleton. Rick worked as a brick and block mason most of his adult life. Rick and his happy go lucky wife, Kelly, loved to travel and were always on the go. They were always together, even on their journey to the heavenly gates. On weekends, they would get their special coffee and off they would go for an adventurous ride.
Ricky is survived by his mother, Ann DeGroot of Combined Locks; his brothers: Guy (Kathleen) DeGroot of Freedom and Gary DeGroot of Combined Locks; his nephews: Ben (Tricia) DeGroot, Chris (Fiancé Andrea) DeGroot; Richard, Michael and Gordy Olson; great-nephew, Brenden DeGroot; brother-in-law, Thad (Dawn) Kluge and their children, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Kelly's step-father, paternal and maternal grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service for Rick and Kelly will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Jansen Fargo Funeral Home, with Deacon Vincent DeGroot officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
My dear son, Rick and Kelly, when times were good on occasion you would take me along on your adventures. We would be walking down the street, arm and arm, with Rick in the middle. Rick, you would say, "I am with my two best girls, the two I love most in this world." When we got together we had great fun and often laughed until our sides ached. In the last few years as Rick's health failed we went through some rough times, but I will always remember the good times. Thanks for the precious memories. Dino Pacelli Giordana, 54, Kaukauna, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Matthews Adare Place I from Huntington's Disease. He was born Oct. 8, 1958, son of the late Bob and Pope (Hanegraaf) Giordana.
Dino graduated with the class of 1976 from Sacred Heart Center of Oneida. He lettered in basketball and track and participated in drama productions. He also attended St. Norbert College for two years.
We will always remember Dino for his "Free Biker Spirit", traveling across country on his Rat '79 Harley Davidson lowrider. At his side, on many rides, was Troy Giordana, his "riding" brother.
He will be missed by his sisters and brothers, Bobbi Jo (Butch Kloehn) Haen; Tony (Pat) Giordana; Pete Giordana and Missi (Demetrius) Giordana. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dino was preceded in death by his parents, and his nephew, Ryan (Pete) Giordana.
Family and friends will gather to remember Dino and to celebrate his life on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Peg & Tommy G's, 107 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Kaukauna. An Honorary motorcycle ride will precede at 12:30 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish parking lot (St. Al's campus), 134 Ann St. Kaukauna, riding through Kaukauna and ending at Peg & Tommy G's.

Sandra "Sandy" J. Stier (nee Weyenberg), 66, Madison, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, with her loving and devoted husband, Jeff, by her side. Sandy was born Feb. 2, 1945, at Army Station Hospital in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of Benedict and Elayne (Busch) Weyenberg. Following her father's discharge from the U.S. Army after World War II, the family moved back to their hometown of Kimberly, Wis. Sandy graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Kimberly High School in 1963, and received her B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1968. While at UW, Sandy met Jeff and they were married on Jan. 23, 1967. Sandy worked throughout the first half of her professional career as a Pharmacist in Ann Arbor, Mich., Zambia, Africa and Madison, Wis. In 1988, Sandy joined It's A Relief Temporary Pharmacists Service, Inc., eventually purchased the company, and served as its President until her passing. Throughout her life, Sandy's family and their time together were paramount. She and Jeff enjoyed traveling throughout the world extensively together, whether as a couple or with their children and grandchildren. Sandy's unconditional love for her family, contagious sense of humor and passion for cards and other games will be fondly remembered. Sandy was a member of Queen of Peace Parish since 1978. Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Jeff; their sons, Sean (Tracy Bloom) and Eric (Suzette Viernes), cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Gabriel and Braeden, all of California; her beloved siblings, Tim (Maryanne) Weyenberg, Greenleaf, Wis.; Mary (Ken) Fries, Winneconne, Wis.; Jan Engebretson, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Jean Weyenberg, Kimberly, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. Dan M. Weyenberg, age 55, of Kimberly, WI; Minneapolis, MN; and Bonita Springs FL, passed away on November 24, 2008, after a long illness. Dan was very generous and had a great sense of humor, he loved golf, his family and had a great fondness for his nieces and nephews.
He was the beloved brother of five siblings: twin sister, Jan (Paul) Engebretson of Minneapolis, MN; Tim (Maryanne) Weyenberg, Greenleaf, WI; Sandy (Jeff) Stier, Madison, WI; Mary (Ken) Fries, Winneconne, WI; and Jean Weyenberg, Kimberly, WI. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Alena M. Frassetto, Sherwood, age 24, passed away August 26, 2007, with her parents and sister at her side. Alena was born in Appleton on June 13, 1983, the daughter of Gino and Nancy (Peerenboom) Frassetto of Sherwood.
Alena was a 2002 graduate of Xavier High School, where she excelled in academics and music. In 2006, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Marquette University. During 2006, Alena was employed by Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee. In January 2007, she began a job she loved in the ER department at Meriter Hospital in Madison.
Alena enjoyed traveling, reading, movies, music, games and especially spending time with family and friends. Her short life left an imprint on the hearts of many and a piece of her will always be with us. Her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes would light up a room. Alena was overwhelmed by the amount of love from those that followed her struggle with leukemia over the past five months. Until the end, she fought this battle with unbelievable strength, courage and dignity and was an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, relatives and multitude of friends.

A special thank you to the nursing staff at UW Health who took special care of her during her long stays there. Thank you Gale, Melissa, Cassie, Cissy, Faith and especially Molly who became a dear friend. Also, thank you to her ThedaCare Hospice caregivers, Kathy, Amy, and Gail. You took such tender care of her these past five weeks. Amy, she so cherished your times together.
