    Obituary:
    William Arthur "Art" Malchow of Appleton, age 88, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday afternoon at Appleton Medical Center, with his family at his side.
    Art was born Dec. 06, 1921 in Appleton at 905 S. Lawe St. (historical site), son of the late Arthur and Sophie (Trombley) Malchow.
    He graduated from Appleton High School in 1939. Art graduated from Chicago Technical College in 1941 and then went on to Allis Chalmers MFG Co., West Allis, WI as a drafting apprentice.
    Art served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on a sub-chaser. He was discharged after 4 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer, having made Chief Quartermaster while on the U.S.S. Xanthus.
    Art married Phyllis Lobermeier on Oct. 26, 1946, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage, blessed with three children: Dennis, Linda, and Gary.
    He was employed for 37 years as the Store Keeper/Purchasing Agent for Consolidated Papers, Inc. in Appleton. He retired in 1983. Art then worked for Valley Transit for 13 years until retiring in 1996.
    Art truly enjoyed being the quiet supporter of family, friends and employers. His kind actions and words summarize his simple life of service and friendship to all. He was a member of the American Legion, a 30 gallon supporter of the Community Blood Center, and a 65 year member of Sacred Heart Church, including 1:00 am Adoration for years.
    Survivors include his wife Phyllis; children, Dennis (Sharon Eisner) Dundee, WI., Linda (Jim) Crump, Bozeman, MT. and Gary, Bad Axe, MI.; grandchildren, Mathew (Jenny) Werth, Shauna (Edward) Kronfuss, Patrick Brassard; great grandchildren, Sidney and Collin Werth, sister Ramona (Robert) Treichel and numerous nieces, nephews and 100 year old Aunt Ethel Malchow of Suamico, WI.
    Art was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Sophie, sister Ione, brothers, Richard (Marie) and Robert and a son-in-law, Wayne D. Werth.
    Visitation will be at the funeral home, Thursday Aug. 26, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St. Appleton, with Rev. Robert Karuhn officiating. Friends may call directly at the church in the Sacred Heart Room, from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the service. Interment with full military honors performed by American Legion Post 38 will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton at 2:00 p.m.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Salvation Army.
