Leo H. Berg N155 Brux Road Darboy Age 74, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. He was born May 16, 1926 in the Town of Grand Chute, son of the late Leo N. and Mary (Gitter) Berg. Leo was a Korean War Army Veteran, having served from 1951 to 1953. On May 13, 1953 he married the former Theresa Mae Emons at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute. Leo was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy where he served as an usher for many years, had served as Trustee from 1963 to 1973 and was Treasurer and caretaker of the cemetery from 1963 to 1999. Leo also was a member of the Leo Van Roy Post 265 of the American Legion, where he held various offices. He was a member of the Town of Buchanan Fire Department for 34 years and had served 19 years as Fire Chief. From 1993 to 1999, he was also Town of Buchanan Supervisor. Leo was employed at American Can, retiring after 36 years, and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. Following his retirement, he worked part time for the Darboy Sanitary District. Survivors include his wife, Theresa, Darboy; two sons and daughters-in-law: David (Diane) and their children, Paul Leo and Julie, Menomonee Falls; Dennis (Sherri) and their children, Tracy, Matt and Scott, Darboy; six brothers and nine sisters-in-law: Hubert (Dolores), Appleton; Carlton (Jerri), Menasha; Jerome (Leone), Pleasanton, California; Vincent (Ione), Appleton; Victor, Appleton; Adam (Char), Appleton, LaVerne Berg, Green Bay; Mildred Berg, Appleton, Verona Berg, Presque Isle, Wisconsin; Anita Berg, Appleton; five sisters and four brothers-in-law: Margaret Maxfield, Jackpot, Nevada; Joan Jantz, Beaver dam; Loretta (Gerald) Schultz, Seymour; Anna (Richard) Hayes, Menasha; Florence (Paul) Walker, Wautoma; Reg De Broux, Oshkosh; numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his wife's family: Betty Dietzen, Mildred St. Cyr, Florence (LeRoy) Meinhard, Richard Peterson. Leo was preceded in death by his step- mother, Isabelle; five brothers and a sister-in-law! : Francis, Gerald, John, Peter and George (Judy); a sister and a brother-in-law, Evelyn De Broux and Peter Jantz.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Darboy with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Leo Van Roy Post 265 outside of church immediately following services. Friends may call from 4-8pm Friday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna. There will be no visitation prior to the service Saturday because of other church commitments. The Leo Van Roy Post 265 will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and there will be a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. Friday to conclude the evening. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. The family would like to express special thanks to Sr. Goretti, Dr. Baum, Dr. Rao and the staff of 2nd Floor South at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the special care and concern shown to Leo and his family.
