    Bast, Leslie E.
    Leslie E. Bast, Appleton, age 90, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center. Leslie was born February 5, 1918, in Appleton to the late Arnold and Amanda (Damsheuser) Bast, and lived his entire life in Appleton. On September 20, 1941, Leslie was united in marriage to Mildred Kranzusch. The couple enjoyed 57 years together until her death in 1998. Leslie worked for many years for the City of Appleton, retiring in the early 70s. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, and especially fishing. He loved to drive daily in his truck to the local fishing spots to see if there was any action. Leslie also loved his cigars. He was a member for many years at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton.
    He is survived by his three daughters: Sandra Williams, Joanie (Joseph) Martin, and Mary Kay Kapp all of Appleton; three grandsons: Todd Kapp, Tony (Sandie) Martin, and Tim (Julie) Martin. Two great-grandchildren: Brett and Casey Martin.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister Verna Hermes.
    A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 22 at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Wendy Wirth-Brock officiating. Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.

    Merrill S. Potter, 89, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Cherry Meadows. Merrill was born on September 25, 1919, in Appleton to the late Charles and Laura (Bast) Potter. He was a veteran having served in the US Air Force during WWII. Merrill married Kathryn Besch on September 5, 1981, in Appleton. He was employed by Kimberly Clark for 40 years until his retirement.
    Merrill was survived by his wife Kathryn, Appleton; four children: Trudy (Gerald) Klade, of Lakeland, FL, Jim (Marie) Potter of Germantown, Tom (Barb) Besch of Omaha, NE, and Terri (Don) Britten of Appleton; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Potter of Appleton, other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his first wife June, a sister Maxine (Walter) Mueller and a brother Boyd Potter.
    A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 6 p.m. at the Wichmann Funeral Home. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of services at the Funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Merrill's name.
