    Obituary:
Douglas Michael Joas, 52, Winchester, died late Thursday night, July 17, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born Sept. 22, 1955, in Neenah, to Douglas E. and Margaret (Fellner) Joas. Doug was a 1973 graduate of Neenah High School where he participated in wrestling. On Aug. 21, 1976, he married Alice Eckstein at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester. They were blessed with five children. Doug worked for almost 30 years at Gilbert Paper Co. in Menasha, until the plant closed. Most recently he had worked for the Town of Clayton. Doug was a dedicated member of the Clayton-Winchester Fire Department since 1981, currently serving as a Fire Inspector. He has been a Supervisor for the Town of Winchester since 2005. Doug was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, and was a past Sunday school teacher, member of the church council and served on the Buildings and Grounds Committee, but his true joy with church work was his involvement with Ruth's Pantry. He was committed to his family, friends, church and community, always willing to lend a helping hand. Doug enjoyed his regular stops to Kwik Trip for coffee and visiting. "You know what I mean."
Doug is survived by his wife of 31 years, Alice; and their children, Benjamin, Katie, Ryan, Kari and Rachel Joas. He is also survived by his father, Douglas E. Joas; one brother, David (Becky) Joas; one sister, Vicki (Scott) Thoma; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Abe and Theda Eckstein; very special sister-in-law, Fay Eckstein; brothers-in-law, Ted Eckstein, Tom (Sandy) Eckstein, Clint (Robin) Eckstein, Dan (Jena) Eckstein; and many nieces and nephews.
Doug's mother, Margaret, preceded him in death.
A Funeral Service for Doug will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester in Larsen, Wis., with Pastor Chuck Fluegel officiating. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Winchester. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church and will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Doug's name.
