    Obituary:
    LEWIS A BRIGGS Lewis A. Briggs, 78, died Wednesday morning at the home of bis daugnter. Mrs. Fern Meyer, 663 Morrison-st. He was bom in Ogdensberg. N. Y.. Jan. 21. 1845. and came to Appleton with his parents in 1853. and had lived here ever since. He was in the mail service for 38 years and resigned five years ago on account of ill health. Mr. Briggs is survived by two daughters and one son. Mrs. Dudley H. Pierce. Mrs. Fern Meyer. Appleton: Emory T. Briggs. Newron Falls. N. Y.. nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

    Funeral services -will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from Riverside chapel and will be conducted by Dr. J, A. Holmes of the Methodist church. The Masonic Order, of which the decedent was a member for many ycars, will have charge at the giave.

    Virginia Phillips, 87, Appleton, entered eternal life on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Carolina Manor. She was born October 3, 1923 to the late Henry and Virginia (Pierce) Nabbefeld. Virginia married Louis Phillips May 20, 1944 and he preceded her in death in November of 2004. She was a secretary for Appleton High School; Institute of Paper Chemistry and Winton Schumaker in the firm of Schumaker, Haass, Baier and Reidl and subsequently Schumaker Romenesko & Associates. She was a very active member at First United Methodist Church in Appleton. Other organizations she was a part of include: DAR; Mayflower Society, Outagamie Historical Society and the Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed making felt ornaments for AMC; collecting various things and she and Louis loved to travel.
    She is survived by a brother, James (Marilyn) Nabbefeld, Ft. Meyers, FL; a nephew, John Nabbefeld and his two daughters; first cousin, Bette (Charles) Gibbs and their three daughters; dear friends: Mary Howden and Lois Lambie. Further survived by other members of the Nabbefeld and Pierce families.
    Friends may visit the family from 9 - 11 am Monday, August 29, 2011 at the funeral home followed by Funeral services for Virginia at 11:00 am, with Rev. Doyle Blanton officiating. Interment will take place with her husband at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
    A special thank you to the staff of Carolina Manor for their care and concern of Virginia the past year and a half.

    Marco Island, FL - Dudley Warren Pierce of Marco Island, Florida died March 28, 2018. He was born January 14, 1930 in Appleton, Wisconsin, the son of Eugene and Muriel Hammond Pierce. Dudley grew up in Appleton where, in 1913, his grandfather founded Pierce Manufacturing which evolved into a worldwide business with Pierce fire engines now on seven continents.
    Dudley, the fourth-generation Pierce to attend Lawrence University, graduated with honors. His fraternity was Delta Tau Delta. After serving in the Air Force, Dudley attended the University of Wisconsin Law School where he was a member of Law Review.
    Mr. Pierce practiced law in Wisconsin Rapids, specializing in labor law for management, representing many national companies doing business in Wisconsin.
    After retiring from his law practice in 1985, Dudley and his wife formed Pierce and Pierce Antiques, specializing in early nineteenth century English Pottery and porcelain and hand-colored prints. Sixteen years of exhibiting at antique shows around the country and traveling to England and Scotland on buying trips was a very happy time.
    Dudley was an avid reader of scientific literature - especially about space and black holes - biographies, and history. He was a raconteur of British stories told with a Scottish or English accent. His keen sense of humor was enjoyed by many. He was an amateur magician.
    A fine marksman, Dudley participated in tournaments in Wisconsin and Arizona. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of Ducks Unlimited. A hunter and fisherman, he traveled frequently to fish in the Canadian Northwest Territories. In his youth he was a ski jumper. In the later years he enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, curling, and he was a scratch golfer.
    Genealogy was another interest; Dudley compiled family trees on the Warren, Hammond and Pierce lines. He was a member of the Mayflower Society. Mr. Pierce was the last living founding member of The Other Other Club, a Winston Churchill Society. He was a member of the Conferie de La Chaine des Rotisseurs. He was a watercolorist. Dudley enjoyed woodworking and made special pieces of furniture for the family log house in Upper Michigan.
    Dudley is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary, and three children; Dudley, Andrew (Linda), Melissa Demopoulos (Andrew), and seven grandchildren. Services will be private. Memorials may be sent to Camp Manito-Wish YMCA in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin or the Shriners Hospital for Children in the Twin Cities, or Hearthstone Museum in Appleton, WI.     Jay Parish, age 89, of Appleton, passed away at home on Saturday, July 27, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 2, 1923, to the late Harold and Emily (Johnson) Parish, and he resided in Appleton. Jay proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He was a Master Jeweler and Professional Engineer. Jay worked for twenty-seven years at Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company as an Outside Plant Engineer before retiring. After retirement, he and his family owned Appleton Trophy and Engraving where he worked for ten years, and he was proud to pass the business onto his sons. On June 29, 1946, he married the late Carol Marschall, and they shared 38 years of marriage. Along with their many memories , they had five children, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren together. On October 8, 1999, Jay married Barb Prindle, and they shared thirteen years of marriage. They loved camping and traveling together, and treasured the winters they were able spend in Arizona. Jay belonged to Masonic Lodge #349, Beja Shriners, Harvey Pierre Post #2778, and the VFW. He additionally belonged to the Sons of Norway, Noon Hour Lions, and was on the board of directors at the Y.M.C.A.
    Jay is survived by his wife, Barb; children, Linda (Patrick) Spaay, Jay (Marge) Parish, Thomas (Betty) Parish, Jan (Randy) Van Asten, and Laura Smith; grandchildren, Tena (Rick) Arps, Tammy Lorge, Heather (Adam) Lorge, Travis (Jenny) Spaay, Kim (Andrew) Birr, Linzi Parish, Brett Parish, Jay (Brooke) Parish, Christina (Jeff) Siedner, Jesse (Jenny) Van Asten, Julie (Paul) Nachtwey, Lisa (Marshal) Kealey, Renee (Travis) Thiel, Jimmy (Kayla) Smith, and Nicole Smith; twenty-seven great-grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Emily Parish; sister, Geraldine Parish; wife, Carol Parish; and Aunt Gladys Klein.
    A memorial service for Jay will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the WICHMANN TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 S. Oneida Street, Menasha, with Rev. John McFadden officiating. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
