    Political Office:
    Captain Amos Story was the first mayor. He was elected in April 1857 and reelected in 1858. Issues included high taxes, licensing taverns, moving the cemetery and getting more bridges across the Fox river. Anson Ballard, his son-in-law, was the opposing candidate. A new survey was made of the city and it was replatted. There were three wards and the population was 3,000.
