    Obituary:
Sara Ebben, 48, died on 17 July 2012 surrounded by the family and friends who loved her. The cause of her death was a GBM (huge brain tumor). Sara's strength and spirit allowed her to survive 4+ years, beyond all expectations.
Sara was born on September 28, 1963 after 24 hours of labor. She first lived in Appleton, in the same house where her Dad was raised. She went to Jefferson Elementary for a year before moving to Menasha, graduating from Menasha High in 1981. Tim, her husband, attended kindergarten with her unknowingly to meet and marry in 2003. From the first day of her freshman year at UW-LaCrosse until graduation from UW-Milwaukee she moved in and out of utter joy at the opportunities higher education provided her to utter depression at the decisions she made early in life. She could have gone to DC to become a political speechwriter, but chose to return to Appleton, working a few jobs before finding the career of a lifetime at Guardian Life Insurance and giving birth to her children, Abbey and Nate. Until her cancer diagnosis, she was a chronic overachiever. Despite many successes, she was never 100% confident. It was that drive that made Sara such a good leader. She was that rare person good at mentoring others and she truly enjoyed it. She cared about her coworkers, sincerely listened to their suggestions and often challenged the status quo on their behalf to establish a lactation room, to change from a Christmas to Holiday card, and to treat everyone, regardless of position, as an equal. Sara made work fun too, using finger puppets, dinosaurs or Far Side cartoons to motivate her and others. She was grateful for all the opportunities Guardian gave her.
We will remember Sara as a loving wife and best friend to Tim; a devoted mother, sister and aunt; a loyal friend; an avid artist, reader, runner, shopper, collector of purses, hats, scarves and jewelry. She believed fiercely in soul mates, yoga, sunbathing, knock-knock jokes and a God who loves everyone regardless of their faith or lack thereof. She was so smart, but not in an arrogant way, and was an amazing writer who opened us to the depths of her life and coming death via a blog that hosted over 70,000 visits, twice as many laughs, an exponential number of tears. Sara hated expressions like "a life cut too short" or "took a turn for the worse" but no violent words were ever used to describe her health since her diagnosis in June 08. To paraphrase the Indigo Girls, the best thing cancer did was to help Sara take her life less seriously. She wished she'd realized sooner what a wonderful life it was. While not a fantastic journey, with occasional forays into anorexia, depression and smite, she made the best of it, a triumphant survivor in many ways.
Sara leaves her husband, Tim Ebben; her children Abbey Lading, Nate Lading, & Isaiah Ebben; her father Sam Prasher & his main squeeze Dorothy Matsche; her siblings Molly & Mark Vold, Michael & Julie Prasher; Tim's siblings Cliff & Mary, Steve, Nancy, Peg, Dan, Eric & Dawn, Andy & Polly Ebben, Barb & Marty Kwiatkowski; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends she adored. Her mother, Lynn Prasher and her second husband, Michael James Mutschler, preceded Sara in death. We are grateful for the staff at St. Elizabeth Oncology Department, especially Dr. Goggins, and St. Paul Hospice for amazing in-home care.
A memorial service will be held in recognition of Sara's life at the CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 1511 Nicolet Blvd, Neenah, on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at NOON, with food and memories to follow. Friends and family can gather at the UCC from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts will benefit Harbor House Domestic Abuse, NAMI Fox Valley and St Paul's Hospice Service, all of which were especially important to Sara and caregivers.
Sara ended every conversation, no matter how small, with "Goodbye. I love you." And so we end in kind by saying goodbye. We love you.
