Schwalenberg, Mrs. Roland Esther M. Hennes
Esther M. (Hennes) Schwalenberg, age 88, of Appleton, formerly of Kaukauna, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008, in Appleton. She was born on March 1, 1920, in Two Creeks, WI, the daughter of Raymond and Myrtle (Taylor) Hennes. Esther attended St. Mary's School in Kaukauna, was a graduate of Kaukauna High School "Class of 38", and the Actual Business College in Appleton. She was employed for many years at Woelz Paper Company as well as Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center in Menasha.
Esther was a member of the Wrightstown American Legion Auxiliary, Urban Klister Post #436 and a charter member of St. Aloysius Parish in Kaukauna.
Esther is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law: David (Connie) of Kaukauna, John (Geralyn) of Waukesha, Charles (Lori) of Green Bay, Mark (Annette) of Bear Creek, and Thomas (Rocio) of Kaukauna; two daughters and a son-in-law: Mary Griffith of Kaukauna and Lisa (Dan) Jackson of Appleton; 19 grandchildren: Anna (fiance Mike), Leah, and Maria Schwalenberg, Jason (Julie) Bradley, Stephen Griffith, Shawna (Mark), Lee (Heather), and Nichole Schwalenberg, Jesse and Eric Schwalenberg; stepgrandchildren: Earl and Cory Jackson, Grant Temple, Jessica Schwalenberg, Josue and Erik Schwalenberg, Heidi and Eddie Alvarez; great-grandchildren: Kaleb and Logan Griffith, Johan and Andrea Alvarez, Erick, Jonathon, and Karla Alvarez, Elliot Gardner, Alexis and Abby Schwalenberg; a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon (Gilda) Hennes of Kaukauna; a sister, Ethel Mitchler of Kaukauna; a brother-in-law, David Six of Wrightstown; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Roland in 1995, a son Lee, a brother Raymond Hennes, Jr., sisters-in-law: Anita Arps Six, Clara Wierschke, and Luanna Schwalenberg; brothers-in-law: Ray Schwalenberg, Melvin Arps, Emmett Wierschke, and William Mitchler; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Herman and Olga (Raddatz) Schwalenberg.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009, at St. Katherine Drexel Parish at ST. ALOYSIUS SITE, 2401 Main Avenue, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors celebrating the mass. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Kaukauna. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home is assisting the family, (920-766-2099).
"Mother, Mom, Ma, Esther, Essie, Sis, Sissy, Aunt Sissy, Grandma Schwally, Great Grandma Schwally, Abuela, Bisabuela" - This selfless woman was known by all these names. She lived her life for others. Those that knew her are better for it. Things meant very little to her, while people (especially her family and extended families) meant everything to her. This was particularly evident in her grand performance on her final Christmas afternoon when "Queen Esther" held court at her home at Dan and Lisa's. She managed to cheerfully greet and visit with everyone despite her failing health. The family expresses sincere gratitude to all the personnel at Thedacare at Home Hospice, especially nurse Mary O'Brien for their loving care and support. An even greater thanks must go to Dan and Lisa for welcoming Mom into their home so she could finish her life on Earth with dignity knowing that she was truly loved.

Esther married Schwalenberg, Roland Aft 1939. Roland (son of Schwalenberg, Herman Henry and Raddatz, Olga) was born 3 Jul 1921; died 13 Jul 1995; was buried Aft 13 Jul 1995, St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Kaukauna, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet]
