Biography:
A. H. DAVIS, who is the proprietor of a general store at Appleton, Wisconsin, is an enterprising and progressive business man, and has had a long and varied experience in his line of work. He was born November 20, 1870, in Richmond county, Wisconsin, a son of C. W. and Adele Davis, the former a native of Canada and the latter of New York, who came to Wisconsin in 1860, where the father was engaged in a general store business during the remainder of his life. A. H. Davis received a public school education in Richmond county, and as a youth began his mercantile training in the general store of his father. Securing the necessary financial backing he first embarked in a business venture at Excelsior Springs, where he remained for sixteen years, and then carried on a like enterprise at Lone Rock for five years, and on March 29, 1910, came to Appleton and bought out the general store business of George B. Maurer. He has a complete, up-to-date line of groceries, clothing, dry goods, hats, caps, boots, shoes and notions, and takes justifiable pride in a large, satisfied trade which he has built up through his own efforts to please. Mr. Davis is a popular member of the Odd Fellows, but he has found no time to engage in matters of a public nature, although always ready to give his influence to those movements which he believes will be of benefit to the community. In 1890 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Smith, who is also a native of Richmond county, Wisconsin, and to this union there has been born a family of four daughters and one son.

Obituary:
Bruce R. Curry, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. He was born on August 7, 1923, in Chicago. Bruce attended Appleton HS ('41) where he played center on the football team. He married his HS sweetheart, Eunice "Skip" DeWitt in 1943, and he asked her to be the "Skipper" of his ship. Bruce proudly served his country as a B-24 navigator in the Army Air Corp during WWII in the 449th squadron and flew 51 combat missions in Italy. He graduated from Marquette School of Engineering in 1949. Bruce became the co-owner of Blower Application Co. In 1985, he built a summer log home residence on Berry Lake and wintered in Tucson, AZ. After Skip's death in 2005, Bruce returned to Appleton. He resided at Touchmark Assisted Living for almost 4 ½ years. Bruce loved it there and lived with his good buddy, his cat, Miss Kitty 2.
He is survived by his daughters Lynn M. Egan, Mary Ellen (John) Germanotta and Jennifer L. (Michael) McDermot and his brother Kenneth (Helen) Curry of La Canada, CA. Bruce is further survived by nine wonderful grandchildren and fifteen beautiful great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond H. Curry and Vera (Davis) Curry and his wife of 62 years, Eunice M. "Skip" (DeWitt) Curry.
The funeral mass for Bruce will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Bruce will be laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery in Appleton.
