    Biography:
    G. E. Haas, senior member of the well-known hardware firm of Haas & Breier, Kaukauna, was born in 1858, in Buchanan township, Outagaine Co., Wis., a son of George and Rose (Bowvers) Haas. George Haas was a native of Baden, Germany, and at the age of twenty-two years imnmigrated to Syracuse, N. Y. His wife, Rose (Bowers) HIaas, was born in Saxony, and at the age of nine years became a resident of the same county (Onondaga) in New York State. There they were married, and subsequently they removed to Wisconsin, locating first ib Brown county, then in 1855 at Little Chute, finally on a farm in Buchanan township. Ontagamie county, in what was then dense woods. He assisted in building the canal, aided in the construction of the first railroad in Kaukauna, built the first bridges across the river at that place and Little Chute, rebuilt one of them twice, built the first float bridge across the canal, and cut the timber to open the first road on the Island. He enlisted in the Thirty-second Wisconsin Volenteer Infantry in 1862, but was rejected upon reaching Oshkosh, on account of disability. After remaining six weeks at that point he returned home. With his wife he now resides in South Kaukauna, which he has seen grow out of the wilderness covering the region upon his arrival nearly forty years ago. Aside from the son whose name opens this sketch, the children of Mr. and Mrs. Haas are: Mary, wife of Henry Blancher, of Neenah; Elizabeth, wife of John Myers, of Rock Creek, Pine Co., Minn. ; William and Henry, residents of South Kaukauna Margaret, wife of William Alger, South Kaukauna; Emma, wife of William Doran, of Rock Creek, Minn. ; Delia, wife of Williamn Smith, of Montana.
    Our Subject wvas reared a farmer, and was educated in the schools of the locality of his birth. He learned the carpenter's trade, and at the age of eighteen years built a barn and launched out into the business of contractor and builder, which he still continues. Among the buildings erected by him are the public school, Kuehn block, Mulford, Mulloy's livery, Jacobs block, and many of the edifices on the South side. In addition to his other business he engaged in the hardware trade in 1889. In 1890 he came to Kaukauna, and is at present the senior mnember of the firm of Haas & Breier, carring a complete stock of hardware, buggies and lumber.
    Mr. Haas was married in Buchanan township, Outagamie county, in 1882, to Augusta Abel, a native of Saxony, Germany, whose father, Ernst Abel, located in Kewaunee county, Wis., in 1870, removing subsequently to Menasha, thence to Little Chute, and finally to Antigo, whcre he now resides. Three children have been given them: Erma, Edmond and Martha. In political matters Mr. Haas convictions are those of the Republican party. He is a member of Ledyard Lodge, A. 0. U. W., also of Kaukauna Lodge No. 297, L. 0. 0. F, and is one of the representative young men of his city and county with years full of promise before him.

    Obituary:
    DEATH IS CAUSED BY SLIGHT WOUND ON THUMB Kaukauna - Mrs. William Alger, 55, died at 3, o'clock Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth hospital, Appleton, of blood poisoning, contracted through a scratch which she received upon her thumb. The decedent is survived by her husband, four sons, four sisters, and two brothers. The sons are Oscar, John, Gordon and Harold. Mrs. Frank Blanchard, Mrs. Elmer Beyer, Mrs. William Doran and Mrs. Elmer Collar are the surviving sisters and George and William Haas are the decedents brothers. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the Reformed church with the Rev. L. L. Worthman in charge of the services. Interment will be in Kelso cemetery.

    Morrell Funeral. The funeral of Mrs. Robert Morrell, formerly Miss Ruth Haas, who died last Friday morning at her home at Highmore, S.D., was held at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Haas, and at 2 o'clock from the Reformed church.
    The decedent is survived by her husband, Robert Morrell; her parents, three sisters, Maud, Irma and Martha; two brothers, Edward and Herbert. Mrs. Morrell was 23 years old. She was married Dec. 2 of last year and moved immediately to South Dakota.
    Before her marriage Mrs. Morrell was an active member of the Rose Rebekah lodge. The Rebekahs attended the funeral in a body. The services were conducted by the Rev. E. L. Worthman.

    Ruby M. Kloehn, of Neenah, age 79, absent from the body, present with the Lord, she went to her eternal home on Thursday, November 17, 2011 after a brief illness.
    She was born in Kaukauna on April 17, 1932. As a small child, she moved to a farm in Black Creek. Ruby attended a country school and graduated from Seymour High School in 1950. On May 15th, 1954, she married Calvin Kloehn at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in the Town of Cicero. He preceded her in death in 1982.
    Ruby was employed at Kurz & Root Electric before staying home to raise her two daughters.
    She was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Neenah where she was a deaconess. Ruby loved children and was involved for many years in the Awana Club and Children's Church. Outside of church, she was a volunteer for the Share Program in the Community.
    Ruby is survived by her daughters: Tami (Ed) Faulks, Amy (Chuck) Towns, both of Neenah; four grandchildren: Jacob (Carolyn), Grant, Peter, April and her fiancé, Ryan; a great-grandchild, Ethan; three sisters: Ruth (Vern) Brusewitz, Rosemary (Brian) Schroeder, Joyce (Doug) Buttles; a brother, Arthur (Jane) Haas; and a brother-in-law, Tom Landwehr.
    She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Landwehr and a niece, Marcia Brusewitz.
    A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Calvary Bible Church, 1450 Oakridge Rd., Neenah, with Dr. Harry Shields officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Entombment will be in Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Calvary Bible's Awana Program and Children's Church.
    Ruby's family can't say enough wonderful things about the caring staff at Island Shores in Neenah. Thank you for treating Ruby like one of your own.

    Jane H Landwehr, 73, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 30, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. She was born May 13, 1935, to the late George and Hattie (Stanelle) Haas. On May 2, 1970, she was united in marriage to TJ Landwehr at Cicero United Methodist Church. Jane was a member of the Cicero United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, was a church secretary and mentored to many youth. She was a storyteller at local libraries and many schools and was a volunteer for the Family Violence Center. Jane was Volunteer of the Year for 2006 in Brown County. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other children.
    She is survived by her husband, TJ; her stepsons, Scott (Jill) Landwehr and Matt (Melinda) Landwehr, both of Walla Walla, Wash.; grandchildren, Katie, Ashley, Dillon and Brooke; her sisters, Ruth (Vern) Brusewitz and Ruby Kloehn, both of Neenah; Rosemary (Brian) Schroeder and Joyce (Douglas) Buttles, both of Seymour; one brother, Art (Jane) Haas, Black Creek; many nieces and nephews; her sisters-in-law, Nanci (Terry) Anderson, Spring Hill, Fla.; Mary (John) Zohlen, Edgewater, Md.; and Frani (Bill) Fraser, Denver, Colo.

On June 28, 1945 she married her husband of 64 years, Clarence Marx, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Hollandtown. Dorothy was very active in her community and was a 4-H leader for 35 years, a past secretary and president of the Freedom Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Town of Freedom and Town of Kaukauna Historical Societies, the Outagamie Retired Teachers Association, the advisory board Prime Time Club and Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was also a very active poll worker at the Kaukauna Town Hall.     WoodrowW. Alger 614 Sunny Crooks Ave., Kaukauna Age 51, passed away suddenly at 6 a.m. Sunday at his home. He was born Nov. 3, 1912 in Kaukauna arid was a life resident. He was employed at the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. for 31 years. Mr. Alger was in the U. S. Navy and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was President of Local 147, Pulp and Paper Makers Union. Mr. Alger is survived by his wife, Ruth; two brothers, Harvey and William, both of Kaukauna; three sisters, Mrs. Arden (Lila) Walker and Mrs. Louis (Carol) Dahm, both of Kaukauna and Mrs. Lester (Virl) Diedrich, Little Chute. One brother, Warren, was killed in service in 1945 Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Kaukauna with burial in the parish Cemetery, Rev. Paul Th.     A telegram was received Tuesday morning by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar W. Alger, Kaukauna, which told of the death of their son, Sergeant Warren G. Alger, on April 1 and of his burial at sea. A previous letter dated received the day before stated that their son had been wounded in action at Iwo Jima Island. Sergeant Alger had enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 1941 and has been overseas since May of 1942.

    Beverly A. Havel, 64, Kaukauna, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on December 4, 2013 after a courageous five year battle with cancer. Beverly was born June 22, 1949 in Kaukauna to Gladys Zielke and the late Jerome Vosters. She graduated from Freedom High School. On August 4, 2000 she was united in marriage to Richard Havel. Bev made many friends throughout her working career at Rich's Bakery, Outagamie County Airport, and Chartwells Food Service. She enjoyed playing cards, taking trips with her sisters and spending time with her grandchildren. Bev will be most remembered for being devoted to her large family, her infectious sense of humor and her compassion for others.
    Beverly is survived by her supportive husband, Richard Havel; her mother, Gladys Zielke; her children: Lisa (Wisneski) Griesbach, Chad Wisneski (fiancée, Amber Schwoch); son-in-law, Randy Griesbach; step-children: Patrick (Aileen) Havel and Tami (Gene) Paalman; four grandchildren: Joshua (Nicole), Cayden and Teaka Griesbach and Jackson Wisneski; two step-grandchildren: Eldon and Myriam Paalman; 10 brothers and sisters: Darlene (Robert) Berghuis, James Vosters, Sue (Michael) Stratton, Eugene (Cindy) Vosters, Verna Linjer, Lawrence Vosters, Leland Vosters, Laurie (Alan) Baldwin, Sharon (Scott) Spiegelberg, Lonnie Vosters; and fifteen brothers and sisters-in-law.     In December of 1948, Gene joined the United States Air Force and served four years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served with the 54th Troop Carrier Squadron during the Korean War.

    Obituary:
    Eugene Walker passed away on Tuesday morning, May 10, 2011, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 14, 1930, in Kaukauna, son of Arden and Lila (Alger) Walker. In Gene's earlier years, he was very active in the Boy Scouts, and received his Eagle Scout badge; he was also one of Wally Mooney's scouts. After graduating from Kaukauna High School, Gene went to work at Thilmany Pulp and Paper. In December of 1948, Gene joined the United States Air Force and served four years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served with the 54th Troop Carrier Squadron during the Korean War. On October 14, 1952, Gene married Ethel Gerrits at Holy Cross Church; the couple has resided in Kaukauna ever since. After working at Thilmany for forty years, he retired in 1987 as a shift supervisor on the paper machines.
    Gene enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons. He was also very much into wood crafting; and then there was golfing, bowling, and traveling that took up a lot of Gene's time. He was a member of the International Paper Management Club, Post #41 of the American Legion, Post #3319 of the VFW, Thilmany's Quarter Century Club, and was a former member of the Kaukauna Elks #962, Fox Valley Golf Club, and Fox Hills Golf Association.
    Gene is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years: Ethel (Gerrits) Walker of Kaukauna; a son: Tom (Carmen) Walker of Iron Mountain, Michigan and Sharie (Jim) Halvorson of Lake Poygan; seven grandchildren: Jason Walker, Chelsey Stephenson, Leah Powell and her fiance Kevin Kamps, Cory Powell, Austin Halvorsen, Blake Halvorsen, and Christian; and a great-grandson Corey Stephenson. Gene is further survived by two sisters-in-law: Ellie Walker and Shelly Walker; as well as by Ethel's family: Gay (Lorraine) Otto, Vi Dickrell, Richard (Delores) Gerrits, Agnes Gerrits, and his aunt Ruth Wier, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents Lila and Arden Walker, brothers Richard "Pro" Walker and John Walker, a daughter-in-law Mary Walker, his in-laws Bill and Loretta Gerrits, and brothers-in-law Amby Dickrell and Mel Gerrits.
    The funeral liturgy for Gene will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Tim Pomeroy officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service. There will be a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
    The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Johnson and his nurse Tabitha, Dr. Munson, Dr. Klingbile, the staff at Appleton Medical Center, the staff at Parkside Care Center, everyone at Theda Care at Home Hospice, and all of Gene's visitors and friends. We will never forget your kindness.

    John (Jack) Walker, age 67, formerly of Kaukauna and Combined Locks, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jack was born on April 23, 1939, in Kaukauna, the youngest of Arden and Lila Walker's three sons. He attended Kaukauna High School and followed in his father's footsteps, working in the International Paper Mill for more than 37 years. He and his wife Rochelle retired to Henderson, Nevada, shortly thereafter.
    Jack is preceded in death by his parents and one of his brothers, Richard (Pro) Walker of Kaukauna.
    He is survived by his wife Rochelle of Henderson, Nevada; his brother, Gene Walker of Kaukauna; and his three daughters and three stepsons and their families (which include 13 grandchildren): Wendy Stolberg of Dixon, Illinois; Amy McLaughlin of Gilbert, Arizona; Jill Daft of Machesney Park, Illinois; Nicklas Locke of Greenville; Jay Klapps of Kaukauna; and Neil Klapps of Neenah.
    An avid outdoorsman, Jack loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. Jack instilled his love of people and his zest for life in all who had the good fortune to make his acquaintance.

    Jeffrey Robert Berghuis of Kaukauna, age 49, passed away unexpectedly due to a snowmobile accident on Saturday, February 6, 2016. Jeff was born May 12, 1966, son of Bob and Dolly (Vosters) Berghuis. Jeff loved his time with his boys in the Northwoods, fishing, picking up sticks and stones, sawing down trees, and being in fishing tournaments. He enjoyed campfires at the biggest fire pit up north at George and Lori's and the ice shanty party shack. Jeff was employed at Appleton Coated Locks Mill for over 30 years.
    In addition to his parents he is survived by his son, Michael (Amy Heger) Berghuis; a step-daughter Holly (Bradley), Verhovec, and their son, K.C. Verhovec, 2 brothers, John and Jim (Becky Huss) Berghuis; a sister-in-law, Dawn Berghuis. He is also survived by his special friend, Jodi Knutson.
    Jeff is further survived by his grandmother, Gladys Zielke, Godparents Rog and Mary Jane Leick; aunts and uncles; Dave (Sandy) Berghuis, Carole (Bill) Gloudemans, Jim Vosters, Sue (Mike) Stratton, Eugene (Cindy) Vosters, Verna Linjer, Larry Vosters, Leland (special friend Michelle), Laurie (Al Baldwin), Sharon (Scott) Spiegelberg, Lonnie Vosters, special friends Keith (Laura) Lindberg and many cousins.
    Jeff is also survived by his many friends from the Northwoods, Terry Uhlenbrauch, Lisa Myszka, The Babinos, Kettenhovens, Andersons, Uhlenbrauchs, Bowmans, Lauxs, Kellers, Hansens, Bergemanns, Brauers, Kilsdonks, Vollmers, Roberts, VanRossums, Wiegerts, Jansens, and too many more to list.

    Derek Berghuis, 18, Kaukauna, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 25, 2014. He was born October 14, 1995, son of Jeff Berghuis and Shelly (Weyenberg) Berghuis. Derek graduated from Kaukauna High School, Class of 2014. He has been employed at Larry's Piggly Wiggly for several years, and just recently started working at Fox Structures. He loved working with his hands, and was always helping others with projects. Derek was a good young man, always there for his friends and family, and wanted everyone to be the best they could. He was everybody's "Little Buddy."
    Derek loved spending time up north. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and spending time with family and friends in the Northwoods. Derek will truly be missed by the countless number of people whose lives he touched.
    Derek is survived by his loving parents: Jeff (special friend Jodie Knutson) Berghuis, and Shelly Berghuis; a brother, Michael (Amy) Berghuis; a sister, Holly (Bradley) Verhovec; a nephew, Kadence "KC" Verhovec; cousin, like a brother: Tylere Berghuis; grandparents: Dan & Donna Weyenberg, Bob & Dolly Berghuis and Dale Marquardt; great grandparents: Gladys Zielke and Ciel Weyenberg; aunts and uncles: John (Dawn) Berghuis, Jim (special friend Becky Huss) Berghuis, Sara (Todd) Hietpas, Molly (Don) Vosters, Amanda Hanstad and Mindy (Mike) Hanstad; cousins: Kirsten, Kara, Makenna, Zack, August, Anna, Laura, Adam, Ellie, Evan, Grant, Caleb, Autumn, Hunter and Kendra; numerous step cousins; girlfriend, Kimmy Felicitas; special friends: Philip H., Adam S., Drew M. and Travis V.; and many other extended family members and friends.

    Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St., Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating.
