She was born Augu st 2, 1919, to the late August and Minnie Mielke. Dorothy married Arthur R etzlaff on April 20, 1939, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 193 9. She married Harold Zirbel on August 8, 1945, and he preceded her in dea th December 22, 1984.Dorothy lived in Wrightstown and was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Chu rch where she was a member of Ladies Aid and Martha Circle and performed m any hour of volunteer service. She loved gardening and working with her fl owers.     James E. Schmidt, Sherwood, 81, went to his heavenly home on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Parkside Care Center, Little Chute, due to complications of Alzheimer's, surrounded by his family.
    Jim was born in Sherwood on Aug. 10, 1929, son of the late Arthur & Alvina (Russ) Schmidt. He graduated from Kaukauna High School, class of 1947. On June 17, 1950, Jim married his one and only love Jean Ott at Zion United Methodist Church, Forest Junction. The couple just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Jim was a volunteer firefighter for the Harrison #1 Department. He also started Boy Scout Troop 62 of Sherwood. He continued to serve with the Boy Scouts for 40 years, 30 of those years as a Scout Master, earning the adult scouting honor of "The Silver Beaver Award." Jim was also a counselor at Camp Gardner Dam. There are not many men that can say they had one night out a week with the boys for 30 years with his wife's blessing. Jim was always a great baseball fan, and he coached both Little League and Babe Ruth teams. He also volunteered his time and tools working with the Sherwood Wide Awake 4-H Band. Jim helped build many bird houses which are in various places at Calumet County and Ledgeview Parks. His faith in Christ was pivotal in his life. He served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He also served on several church committees at Zion United Methodist Church. Jim's love of music, from polka to country western, to hymns and gospel, was shared through singing in the church choir as well as playing his trumpet in the Sherwood Wide Awake Band, the Kaukauna High School Band, and the Wayside-Morrison Marching Band. After retiring, Jim continued to volunteer in his community through the Sherwood Lions Club. He also served in various capacities for the Calumet County Fair. Jim spent his years of employment at the Wisconsin Wireworks, Badger Northland, Mader Sales and Service, and after retirement, Looks True Value and Piggly Wiggly.
    Jim is survived by his wife, Jean, Sherwood; son, Don (Sharon), Hilbert; and their children and grandchild, Bryan (Julie) and Morgan, Tracey (fiance' Nick Schmoll), Andrea (special friend Aaron Bare); daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Von Dyn Hoven, Kaukauna, and their children and grandchildren, Benjamin (Amy) and Madalyn and Reid, Nathan (Cathy), Nels (Heidi), Samuel (Kristen); daughter, Vicki ("Kit") Indermuehle, Mukwonago, and their children, Michelle (Brian) Nabak, Katie, Rebekah; son, James T. "Tim" Schmidt, Menasha, his child, Zachary (Jessica); son, Todd (Janet) Schmidt, Pulaski, and their children, Olivia and Julia; and daughter, Jodi (Joseph) Lucas, Waukesha, and their children, Annabelle and Clare; a brother and two sisters-in-law, George (Jill) Schmidt, Denver, Colo.; and Armella Schimidt, Green Bay; sister, Elaine (Warren) Koffarnus-Giese, Sauk City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Silas (Adeline) Ott, Menasha; Robert Von Haden, Wrightstown; Helen Krasniewski, Appleton; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

    Funeral Service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Zion United Methodist Church, Forest Junction. The Rev. Becky Kindschi is officiating at the service with burial to follow at a later date. Family and friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 5 p.m.

    George William Schmidt was called peaceably to his heavenly home on April 20th, 2012, from the Springwood Campus in Arvada, Colorado at the age of 80. He was born into this life on May 17th, 1931, in Sherwood, Wisconsin, the youngest son of Arthur Alvina (Russ) Schmidt. George graduated from Kaukauna High School, Wisconsin, in 1949 and soon after joined the US Air Force. He was stationed at Fairford Air Base, Gloucestershire, England during the Korean War. While in England, he met and married Jill Foster of Essex, in 1953. Upon returning to the US, they relocated to Denver, Colorado. George was employed as a mechanical engineer with special interest in aerospace engineering. During his career, he worked for several companies including Sunstrand, Dow Chemical and Martin Marrietta. He was very proud of his contributions to the aerospace missile program. After retiring in 1989, George became involved with the Arvada Food Bank where he spent many hours distributing food staples and words of encouragement to those who needed a "little help." George was a life- long blood donor and he made it a family priority to attend local bible-based churches. Throughout his life, George had the opportunity to travel extensively around the Southwest, as well as internationally to places such as Canada, Mexico, Europe, Costa Rica and even the Great Wall of China and Nepal. His other interests included fishing, hiking and rock hounding. Given the opportunity, he would never pass up on a game of darts, horseshoes, ping pong or checkers with his granddaughter. George leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Jill Schmidt of Arvada; his 3 children: Mark, (Paula) of Broomfield, CO, Paul, (Sheryl) Schmidt of Canby, OR and Yvonne, (Mark) Savarise of Sandpoint, ID; granddaughter Lindsey Schmidt of Denver; sister Elaine (Warren) Giese of Sauk City, WI and sister-in-law Jean Schmidt of Menasha, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Arthur, Gerald and James Schmidt, his sisters Anna (Floyd) Morrow and Delores Schmidt; an! d his infant daughter Jennifer Schmidt. A memorial celebration of George's life will be held at the Arvada Community Food Bank, May 25th, 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Arvada Community Food Bank, 8555 W. 57th Ave, Arvada, CO 80002 (303-424-6685)

    Sue A. Johnson, 69 of Wrightstown, WI was called home to her Lord and Savior on March 7, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Sue was a life-long resident of the Village of Wrightstown and member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband Steve of 44 years, daughters Tamara VandeCorput (Paul) and Teri Johnson (Kelly), sons Todd Johnson(Shelley) and Tim Johnson(Melanie) and seven grandchildren, all boys, Jeremy, Jared, Ryan, Tyler, Kelan, Gage, and Finn.
    Sue is further survived by aunts, uncle, many cousins, sister-in-law Jean Humblet, son-in-law Gary Hendricks, along with caring neighbors and friends.
    Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Dorothy Mielke, a sister Carol Mielke, and in-laws John and Phyllis Johnson and other close relatives.
    Sue's love for quilting earned her an unbelievable amount of friendships and her handiwork graces the homes of many loved ones. Sue also was a long-time member of 4-H and served many years as the General Leader of Wrightstown 4-H Club.
    Visitation will be held at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wrightstown on March 10, 2017 from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. with the service held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Gehl presiding. Interment will be at St. John Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Cotter Funeral Home of Wrightstown.
    Sue's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Drs. Timothy Goggins and Jack Swanson and the entire staff of Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology who have exhibited significant amounts of caring and consideration; the nursing staff on the 4th floor of St. Elizabeth Hospital; and Diana Royer of Heartland Hospice Care.
    In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be directed to Breast Cancer Research.

    Dennis C. Zirbel, 61, Wrightstown, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 25, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born August 21, 1946, in Wrightstown, son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Mielke) Zirbel. He graduated from Wrightstown High School in 1965. Following, he worked for Ariens Co. in Brillion; retiring after 30 years. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Wrightstown, where he served as Trustee. Dennis enjoyed restoring cars, and recently established the independent car club known as Southern Brown County Car Collectors (SBCCC), with a group of his friends. Dennis had a true admiration for antiques and history. Dennis enjoyed watching the Wrightstown community enjoy the recently established Zirbel Sledding Hill.
    Survivors include his brother, Art (Ardena) Retzlaff, Amberg; nephew, Timothy (Dawn) Retzlaff, and their children: Kyle, Ryan and Lauryn, Kaukauna; niece, Shelly Retzlaff and her daughter, Abby (AJ), Menasha; aunts, Mary Burriss; Iris Valk, and Doris Mielke; uncle, August (Marie) Mielke; many cousins, especially the family of Sue and Steve Johnson; Pat and Marie Zirbel; and many friends who were like family to him, especially the families of Gary Hendricks and Marv Bortz.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, niece, Jennifer Retzlaff; aunts and uncles: Leona and Harold Van Deurzen, Wilmer and Dorothy Mielke, Gordon Mielke, Ben and Betty Verbeten, Lawrence and Adeline Zirbel, Alvin and Mary Zirbel, Norman Burriss, Viola and William Ray, and Ben Valk.
    Family and friends may call Sunday, July 27, 2008, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at DeWane-Cotter Funeral Home, 711 Main St., Wrightstown. Visitation will continue on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Wrightstown. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at church, with the Rev. Ronald Zindler officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
    The family extends a warm thank you to the first responders, the Bellin Hospital Advance Care staff and Pastor Ronald Zindler.
