    Obituary:
Ms Frances Anne Bubolz died Sunday January 29 as a result of complications of Parkinson's disease at Ingleside Nursing Home in Mount Horeb, WI.
Ms Bubolz was the youngest child of Julius Christian and Margaret Nelson Bubolz. She was born in Hollister, WI, where she grew up on the family farm. When she was little she was given the nickname "Storm," which she was called by family members all her life. There are various versions of how she got this nickname, but she insisted it was earned when other children teased her pets. As a child, she was cherished for her precocious intelligence and musical talent and her long blond ringlets, which drew comparisons to Shirley Temple.
Ms Bubolz graduated from Oshkosh High School and earned a B. Mus. and M. Mus. Degree from UW-Madison, where she was a Rennebohm Scholar in recognition of her academic achievement. She double majored in voice and trumpet, and also trained as a music educator. During her long teaching career, she taught high school choral music at Neenah High School, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in Sturgeon Bay and in Appleton, where she also taught elementary school music. She believed every child could and should learn to sing. Her high standards were legendary: she was famous for her elaborate Gilbert and Sullivan productions, even with children in younger grades. She maintained friendships with former music students throughout her life, and mentored many who pursued careers in music.
She continued her career as a singer and trumpeter, performing solo voice recitals and playing the trumpet with the Fox Valley Symphony for many years. She also performed as an actor with the Attic Theater in Appleton. She was a discriminating and encyclopedic listener and critic, and she fostered a love of music and theater in her students, nieces and nephews with her generous gifts of books, records and tickets to music and theater performances.
Ms. Bubolz was keenly interested in environmental issues and was a true friend of the earth. She maintained enormous flower and vegetable gardens at the family farm in Hollister and at her home in Appleton. She gave up using pesticides after reading Silent Spring in 1962. For years, she used only spring water from the farm, and with great effort toted it back to Appleton for cooking and drinking. In the early 1960s, she was active in environmental advocacy as an opponent of the proposed Pearson Dam on her beloved Wolf River. She was also an early adopter of solar power, installing solar panels on her roof and selling power back to the power company for decades.
After her retirement from teaching, Ms Bubolz was a volunteer tutor for the Literacy Education Services, Inc. in Appleton. She gave time, friendship, protection and often material assistance to scores of immigrants from all over the world, and she was proud of the collection of traditional art, recipes, and testimonials she received in return. She loved learning about other cultures, and she was a champion of those who needed help getting a leg up in their new country. She was also a tireless advocate for Native Americans, raising her voice on their behalf in public, and donating resources to defend Native American tribal rights.
She was a lover of animals throughout her life, and raised horses, many beloved dogs and rescue cats. For years she drove back and forth to Hollister to feed and water her flock of homing pigeons, and she knew each one by name. She was gifted in her ability to communicate with these pets and the whole family enjoyed their rich personalities and antics.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Marge Bubolz of New Glarus; her nephews and nieces, Michael Anderegg (Cheryl) of Marquette, MI; Margaret McNurlan of Stony Brook, NY; Barbara Anderegg (Harry Moen) of Madison; Virginia Mueller (Juergen) of Sun Prairie; Robert J. Anderegg (Jennifer Grant) of Hartland, VT; David Anderegg (Kelley DeLorenzo) of West Stockbridge, MA; Carl S. Nadler (Judy) of Washington DC; Marky Kuba of Eau Claire; Susan Burns of Lake Saint Louis, IL; Ellen Knight of Raymond ME; Amy Fowler (Mike) of Verona, WI; Danford Bubolz (Susan) of Verona; Justin Bubolz (Sonja) of Hannibal, MO; and J. Forrest Bubolz of Baraboo. She was predeceased by her parents and by her brother Dan Bubolz and her sister Anita Anderegg.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Ingleside Nursing Home in Mount Horeb and Avalon Assisted Living Community in Madison for their loving kindness to Storm, and especially to thank Barbara Anderegg and Amy Fowler for their unstinting devotion to Storm during the last three years. Memorial donations may be made to your local humane society, literacy program, or school music program. A memorial service will be held in Appleton in the spring of this year. Remembrances may be sent to the family c/o Ellestad Camacho Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th Street, Mount Horeb, WI 53572.

Fran Bubolz, born May 4, 1929, died January 29, 2017. Fran enjoyed a long career teaching vocal music in the school districts of Sturgeon Bay, Menasha and Appleton. After retirement, Fran tutored students from many countries with the Literacy Educatiion Services, Inc. (LESI). She built many new and lasting friendships with both students and staff there. Fran lived her life focused on providing educational opportunities, living gently on this planet and loving her rescued pets. The family invites friends to join a celebration of her life on Saturday, May 13th, from 1-4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 325 E. Franklin St., Appleton, WI.
