Obituary:
Andrea J. Oppelt, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 18, 1957, in Appleton, daughter of Eva (Heise) and the late Ernst Hannemann. On March 14, 1980, she was married to Daniel B. Oppelt in Manawa, Wis. Andrea graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She spent some time in Germany as a foreign exchange student and received her Master's degree in Special Education from UW-Oshkosh. Andrea worked in administration in the Culinary Arts program at Fox Valley Technical College before beginning her teaching career with Lincoln Elementary School. She had a passion for teaching and helping children with special needs and touched the lives of many area children through her teaching and spending time with them in their homes. Andrea was a member of Appleton Alliance Church and was very involved with Bible study groups, teaching Sunday school in Discovery Land and was a member of the Bialey girls for many years. She loved nature, fresh air, walking in the woods, spending time with family, including the many years she was actively involved with her daughter's equestrian competitions.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dan Oppelt, Appleton; her children, Brian (Jackalyn) Oppelt, Sara Oppelt, Nathan Oppelt and Leah Oppelt; granddaughter, Natalie Oppelt and a granddaughter soon to arrive, Alexia Ann Oppelt; mother, Eva Hannemann; uncle, Heinz Heise; father- and mother-in-law, Robert J. (Genevieve) Oppelt, and two sisters-in-law, Lisa (Paul) Gavronski, Neenah; and Jan (Bruce) Anka, Dayton, OH.
A funeral service for Andrea will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Appleton Alliance Church, 2693 W. Grand Chute Blvd., Appleton, with the Rev. William L. Barwis officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in her name.
