    Obituary:
Farmer Takes His Own Life" Fred C. Huebner, 61, route 2, Hortonville, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound about 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the yard of his Town of Dale farm.
He had been in poor health and under doctor's care for about two years. He complained of severe chest pains Thursday morning and left the farm after finishing the chores.
County Coroner Bernard H. Kemps said he was told Huebner instructed his wife about 10 a.m. on the use of a sprayer so she could operate it "in case he was not around." When he did not come in for lunch, Mrs. Huebner called her daughters, Mrs. Erwin Grosnick, who lives nearby, and they searched vainly for Huebner.
Mrs. Grosnick returned at 3 p.m. to continue the search and found her father lying on the butt of a 20-gauge shotgun near a lumber pile in the yard. Time of death was set between 10 and 11 a.m.
Kemps said Huebner apparently braced the gun on the ground, pressed the muzzle to his chest and fired it.
Huebner was born Dec. 13, 1899, in the Town of Ellington. He is survived by his widow, four daughters, three sons, a brother, three sisters and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home with burial in Union cemetery."

    Education - High School:
Appleton High School Class of 1927

    Obituary:
Donna Anna Vaughan, 99, died June 19, 2009, at Brewster Village in Appleton, Wis. She was born to Charles Herrmann and Alvina Puls in Appleton, on March 31, 1910, and was the oldest of five children. A 1927 graduate of Appleton High School, Donna was probably the last surviving member of that class. While in high school, she performed in musicals and later on in a variety of local musical productions. For most of her life, she was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where her father was president of the board when the cornerstone was laid in 1920.
She worked at Pettibone-Peabody, an Appleton department store, in the late 1920s, both as an elevator operator and in the bookkeeping department. For many years in the late 1950's and 1960's, she worked with the Ladies Auxiliary in what is now Appleton Medical Center.
She married Thomas L. Vaughan on June 23, 1931, in Appleton. As a Depression-era bride, she developed a frugal lifestyle, which continued throughout her life. After Tom retired, they traveled much of the central and southeastern United States. They enjoyed nearly 55 years of marriage until Tom's death in 1986. Being shy and always late as a youngster, she appreciated how he showed her how to meet people and to be punctual.
Donna lived her entire life in Appleton, except for a few months in Waupaca and Durand early in her marriage and about 4-1/2 years in Fond du Lac, in the late 1930s and early 1940s. While in that city, she was a member of the Fond du Lac Players and worked at the T.E. Ahern Company. She loved to sing, startling her mother when, as a toddler, she remembered all the words and pitches of "Down by the Old Mill Stream." After high school, she studied at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music. Possessing a powerful voice, she was offered a singing job in New York City, but her mother's illness required her to stay at home and care for her younger siblings. She especially enjoyed music from the 1930s and 1940s and Dixieland jazz. Donna became an avid Green Bay Packers fan in the 1920s. She had season tickets from 1939 through 1992, when she decided watching the games on TV was less hassle. She and son, Tommy, often spoke about the team for hours each day during the season. She attended the "Ice Bowl" in 1967. She also enjoyed working daily crossword puzzles, playing cards, reading newspapers, eating vanilla ice cream and strawberry shortcake, and spending time with her sons, grandchildren and extended family members. As she got older, although she enjoyed life, she frequently wondered aloud what good she was to anyone. Her sons, grandchildren and other relatives said she was their "entertainment" as she was frequently the life of the party at family gatherings due to her strong opinions about almost everything. She often said she had to be strong to live in a family of three men.
While a good cook and seamstress, she saw those things as just tasks that needed to be done, preferring to read and talk about football, politics and economics. She said had she been born today, she would have sought a job in business. Themes she often repeated were "These are the good old days" and "Do it while you can; don't wait too long." In 1990, at the age of 80, Donna traveled with her son, Art, and daughter-in-law, Gloria, to Germany and Austria. The following year they visited Mecklenburg in the former East Germany and Lower Silesia, now in Poland, to see her ancestors' villages. She declared those lands to be "just like Wisconsin," but wondered aloud, "What's wrong with these people that they don't give free refills on coffee?" From 1993 to 2007, she spent two weeks every summer with son Art and family at their cottage in Three Lakes. While there, she often remarked about how it reminded her of her days at her family's cottage on Lake Winnebago when she was a girl.
Donna lived independently in the home she and husband, Tom, purchased in 1945 and completely renovated. Donna even upholstered some of the furniture. After Tom's death, Tommy mowed her lawn, cleared her sidewalks and driveway of snow and ice and, after she decided to quit driving in 2006, took her on weekly shopping trips.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Tom; and siblings, Arline Luebben and Charles "Pete," Ione and Arthur Herrmann.
Survivors include son, Thomas C. Vaughan, Appleton; son, Arthur R. Vaughan and daughter-in-law, Gloria B. Freeland, Manhattan, Kan.; grandchildren, Karen E. Ethridge, Kansas City, Mo.; Matthew A. Vaughan, Grandview, Mo.; and Mariya B. and Katherine J. Vaughan, Manhattan, Kan; great-grandchildren, Cameron Martinez and Jeremiah, Joshua and Katrina Ethridge; great-great-grandchildren, Avery and Conner Martinez; sisters-in-law, Betty Herrmann and Sue Herrmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Whenever she faced a problem, Donna collected information, made a decision and stuck with it, never looking back. At 53, not liking how the smoke yellowed the cabinets in her kitchen, she gave up cigarettes without once complaining and never understood why others couldn't do the same. She was equally matter-of-fact about all of life, not dwelling on the inevitable losses. When faced with the death of a loved one, she'd be melancholy for a time and then abruptly mark the end of that period with, "Well, that's it!" After suffering a stroke in January of this year, she moved to Brewster Village. Told she would probably make a good recovery, her usual optimistic outlook and feisty nature quickly took over and she looked forward to moving back into her home. She was doing well when struck with a second affliction. After being told she would probably not recover, despite being seemingly strong, she died the next day, as if saying, "Well, that's it!"
A family memorial service and inurnment are planned for a later date. Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, is helping with arrangements.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Appleton Medical Center and Brewster Village for their kind, compassionate care of our dear Donna.

    Obituary:
Marcella Laura (Huebner) Grosnick, age 91, of Appleton, our mom, our grandmother and our great-grandmother, fell asleep in arms of our Savior, on Friday, August 15, 2014. Her soul is forever safe with the Lord. Through faith in Jesus she is God's child forever. Her sins have been forgiven by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus. Her body now waits for the great Resurrection Day when Jesus returns. On that day, Jesus will raise her body and change it to be like His body, a glorified body, which will never die but live in the mansions of heaven forever. What a comfort this is to us, her family, whom she taught these truths.
Marcella Laura Huebner was born on October 3, 1922 to Frederick, Sr. and Margaret (Missling) Huebner on the family farm in rural Hortonville, Wisconsin.
Marcella became a child of God and heir of everlasting life through the washing of Holy Baptism on November 5, 1922, at the family home in the Town of Ellington, rural Hortonville by Pastor Gustav E. Boettcher.
Marcella attended Bethlehem Lutheran School in Hortonville where she was instructed and confirmed in her Baptismal faith on March 21, 1937, by Pastor Gustav E. Boettcher. At her confirmation she received the memory verse - Matthew 28:20: "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world."
During the Second World War Marcella and her sister, Elleanor, helped with the war effort by moving to Milwaukee to work in an armament factory. After the war Marcella worked at Lawrence College in Appleton. In later years Marcella worked at the Toy Factory in Hortonville, as a cook at the New London Hospital and, until her retirement, as head cook at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in New London.
On March 1, 1946, Marcella was blessed by God to be united in marriage with Erwin A. M. Grosnick at Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church of Hortonville by Pastor Harold Wicke. The Lord was with Marcella and Erwin and blessed the life they shared with over 43 years together as husband and wife - until God called Erwin to himself on April 5, 1989.
Marcella and Erwin farmed together at several locations over the years - the longest time being spent at the farm north of Medina. In 1979, they moved to the little yellow house on Nash Street in Hortonville where Marcella would live until 2005 when she made her home with her son, Roger, in Oak Grove (rural Juneau), Wisconsin.
On July 28, 2008, Marcella took up residence at the Appleton Health Care Center, where she was living when the Lord called her to himself.
Marcella was a longtime and faithful member of Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church of Hortonville. She served the Lord through the congregation in various ways, including being a longtime member of the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Woman's Missionary Society of the congregation, as well as being a part of the "team" to help assemble the church bulletins and newsletters. Marcella had loved her gardens and took great pleasure in planting and tending her flowers and vegetables. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren - who were her pride and joy as anyone could tell simply by listening to her brag about the "kids".
Marcella is survived by two sons: Rev. Roger A. Grosnick of Oak Grove (rural Juneau), Wisconsin and Danny E. (Karen) Grosnick of Menasha. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Stacey Grosnick and Nicholas (Kristin) Grosnick - both of Appleton; and a great-grandson, Harrison Grosnick of Appleton. She is further survived by three sisters: Elleanor Zimmer, Appleton; Alice (G.William) Kuehnel and Dorothy (James) McVey, both of Florida; two brothers: Fred (Carol) Huebner, Hortonville and Robert (Arlene) Huebner, Appleton, and by a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Huebner, Oshkosh, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
So it was on August 15, 2014, that Marcella Laura (Huebner) Grosnick was called from this life to the immortality of heaven at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 12 days.
Preceding Marcella in entering the mansions of eternal glory were her husband - Erwin, her parents, her brothers, Donald Huebner in childhood and Harold Huebner in 2003; her sisters Grace Huebner in infancy and another sister at birth. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Donald Zimmer, Walter & Laverne Grosnick, Alfred & Leona Luedtke, and Reuben & Pearl Spiegelberg, and a nephew, Larry Luedtke.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hortonville with Rev. Ralph Rosenberg officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran School would be appreciated.
Marcella's earthly remains will be entombed following this service at the Highland Memorial Park, Star of Hope Mausoleum, Appleton, to await the return of the Lord Jesus on the Last Day, when our Savior will raise from the dead all who have lived in the world an take all those who trusted in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins into His eternal presence in heaven where there is fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore.

    Obituary:
    Day, Stanley Thomas "Tom"
Stanley Thomas "Tom" Day, 67, De Pere, passed away Saturday August 1, 2009, at home, surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Stanley and Irene (Komp) Day was born June 10, 1942. Tom was born in Appleton; his father owned a cheese factory and then moved to De Pere to own and operate Day's Bar and Family Restaurant. Tom attended Nicolet Grade School, West De Pere High School where he was active in theater and played drums. He then went to Carroll College where he was President of his Fraternity, Delta Rho Upsilon. Tom was a graduate of the Masters Program at UW Oshkosh, majoring in guidance and counseling. After college, he began his teaching career at Seymour. Throughout this time, he dated Phyllis Bouchard and they were engaged on June 9, 1965, and were married June 18, 1966. They purchased their home in 1965 and have raised their children and grandchildren since that time. Teaching was his life and he enjoyed every minute of it. He taught in the Seymour School District, mostly at the Middle School. In 1967, he became the father of a bouncing baby girl, Kari - on whom the sun rose and set - then 8 years later the birth of his first son, Sean, and shortly after, the birth of his second son, Aaron. He had many vacations at Pelican Lake with the Bouchard family and his father purchased a home on the lake as well, where Tom would spend the entire summer. Tom, his brother-in-law, Allan and his father-in-law, Gordon, caught three muskies on Pelican Lake all in the same day and when they got home, they were featured on Channel 2 with Big Al Sampson filming the three muskies for TV. These vacations continued a tradition throughout the children's lives as it does today in the grandchildren's. They have made new friends and continued that relationship since they were all babies. This year, Tom wanted to go on vacation and so we did - Tom even got his perch! Tom led a full life, and mostly enjoyed his grandsons, family vacations and fishing on Pelican Lake, vacations to Mexico, his beloved teaching, his pets, Sparkie and Spritzer, watching Jeopardy, Soduko, and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Tom's family includes his wife of 43 years, Phyllis, their children: Kari Day, De Pere; Sean Day, De Pere; Aaron (Tara) Day, Green Bay; grandchildren: Quinton Thomas Day and Zavion Thomas Day; stepmother, Catherine (Renard) Day, stepbrothers: Gerald and Anne Renard, Seymour; Thomas and Tess Renard, Holman, WI; sisters and brothers-in-law: Alice (James) Todey, Green Bay; Barbara (Dale) Schmechel, Green Bay; Robert Thompson, Arizona; Mae Willems, De Pere. In addition, Tom is also survived by his godchild, Tina (Bouchard) Kemp, nieces and nephews, and his good friends, William "Bill" Menne and Nancy and Pete Blashka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Irene Day, brother, Donald, sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" and Richard Willems, godson, Timothy Willems, parents-in-law, Gordon and Helen (Schmechel) Bouchard, brother-in-law, Allan Bouchard, and step brother, James Renard.
Family and Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, 1700 Lost Dauphin Road, De Pere. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Pastors Brian and Andrea Cain, officiating. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the Day family.
Tom's family extends a special thank you to Dr. Groteluschen at St. Vincent Oncology, Unity Hospice, especially Patty, Sharon, Linda, Leslie Ann, and Jessica, as well as Melissa at Ministry Home Care in Rhinelander, Pastors Brian and Andrea Cain, the St. John Lutheran Prayer Chain, and all of the Relatives and Friends for their comfort and support.
