    Karl, Mary Margaret (De Clercq)
    Mary Margaret Karl passed away on May 26, 2004 at Parkside Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born on March 29, 1931 to the late Remi and Virginia (De Beukclar) Van Wassenhoven. Mary Margaret will best be remembered from her years as the owner of "Hamburger Heaven" restaurant from 1948 to 1952. She then was employed at "Villa St Ann Home" in Oconomowoc. She returned to Kaukauna to work at the "Klister Clover Farm Store". In 1962 she was employed at the Kaukauna Chamber of Commerce as an executive secretary and later at the Neenah/ Menasha Chamber as an executive assistant.
    In 1968, she received the "Woman of the Year" recognition from the Neenah/Menasha Business and Professional Women's Club. She was involved in numerous community projects in the Fox Valley, notably, the Tri-County Planning Commission for the Highway 441 Project. She was invited as an honored guest at the opening ceremony.
    In 1976, she was united in marriage to Robert Karl Sr. They resided in the Fox Valley where they worked as apartment managers.
    For many years Mary Margaret was active in Kaukauna Alumni Association serving on the Board of Directors, secretary and editor of the "Kaukauna Alumni News".
    She had a love for "words" which was expressed in her distinctive writing style and poetry. She also had a love for music, playing the piano for her enjoyment and for the enjoyment of others. Mary Margaret enjoyed her "Family get-togethers" where she spent many hours playing scrabble with her niece, Mary Joan. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, TV news programs and was an "O'Reilly" Fan.
    Mary Margaret is survived by: sister, Clara (Fred) Lonigro, Appleton; brother, Fred (Loretta) Van Wassenhoven, De Pere; sister-in-law, Lorraine Van Wassenhoven, De Pere; step son, Robert Jr. (Carla) Karl, Oshkosh; step grandchildren, Shawn and Krystal Karl, Oshkosh; special nieces and nephew: Corrine (David) Sievert, Appleton; Mary Joan (Paul) Hopfensperger, Holland Town; Kathleen (Kenneth) Green, Kaukauna; David (Mary Jo) Klister, Kaukauna. She is further survived by nieces and nephews: Thomas (Mary) Lonigro, Judy (Todd) Smith, Terry (Mike) Brazels, Beth (John) De Keyzer, Chris (Doug) Adams, Donald (Barbara) Van Wassenhoven, Jody Van Wassenhoven, Julie Vargas, John Van Wassenhoven, Jean (John) Segars, Virginia (Eugene) Westphal and Clarence Van Vonderen. Also surviving are special grand-nieces and nephews: Suzanne Edgren, Wendy Sievert, Christopher (Nancy) Sievert, Gretchem (Shawn) Shimek, David Green, Rachel (Jeff) Callies, Matthew Green and Christopher Green.
    Preceding Mary Margaret in death was her loving husband, Robert Sr. in 1990; her parents, Remi and Virginia Van Wassenhoven; her adoptive parents, Joseph and Mary De Clercq; brothers: Joseph, Louis, Raymond, Emil Van Wassenhoven; a sister, Rose Van Vanderon; also her adoptive brothers and sisters: Edwin (Corrine) De Clercq, Josephine (Sister Inez O.P.), Margaret (Henry) Klister, Robert (Blanche) De Clercq.
    The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2004 at ST. MARY of the ANNUNCIATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 West Seventh Street, Kaukauna with Fr. Robert A. Udulutsch OFM Cap. officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home is assisting the family.
    A special Thank-You to Dr. Hammeke and Dr. Cotton and staff at the Kaukauna Dialysis Center and Parkside Nursing Home for their compassionate care during her illness.
    Dear Mary Margaret, you will be greatly missed by your loving family. Your sunny disposition and sense of humor in this difficult time, gave us comfort and strength. May your "Angel Wings" carry you swiftly to your heavenly rest.
    Mary wishes that your prayers and sorrows be offered up for the poor souls.
