Cox, 55, veteran of World War I and for many years an Illinois C entral dispatcher and trainmaster, passed away at Hines Hospital Chicago l ate yesterday after and extended illness. Funeral services will be he ld at the Schwartz funeral home, South Galena Ave. at 9 o'clock Saturday m orning with a requiem mass at St. Mary's Catholic church at 9:30 o'cloc k. Rt. Rev. C.F. Conley will celebrate the mass. The Knights of Columbus w ill meet at the funeral home at 7 o'clock Friday night to recite the rosar y. Mr. Cox was born at Ipswich, S.D. Feb 10, 1888, the son of Patick E. a nd Mary Cox. He attended St. Mary's parochial school and Freeport High sch ool. At the age of 17 he entered the employ of the Illinois Central Railro ad company and through diligent efforts worked his way up to the post of d ispatcher. He later became trainmaster. He was one of the first men from t his county to enlist in the armed services in the first World War, servi ng in France during the war and in Germany after the armistice. He was unt ied in marriage in 1922 to Miss Pearl Griffith. He is survived by one daug hter, Mrs. Francis (Patricia ) Bear, Freeport. Four sisters and two brothe rs also survive; Mrs. Robert J. Burns, Mrs. Arthur Murphy, Freeport; Mr s. Miles Doran, Beloit, Wis.; Mrs. Hugh Kleckner, Aurora; J. Edward Cox, O maha, Neb.; William P. Cox, Chicago. He was a member of the Knights of Col umbus.
