    Obituary:
Dick (Canary, Bird) Mulry, 82, of Combined Locks passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St Paul Elder Services. He was born Oct. 8, 1934 to the late Basil and Vera (Tyrrell) Mulry. On July 13, 1957 he was united in marriage to Priscilla (Schmidt) Mulry.
He graduated from St Johns High School in Little Chute where he excelled in three sports. Dick was a member of the Skulls Club. After graduation he played baseball with LCK (Little Chute/Kimberly) and also a stint with the Kaukauna Klubbers baseball team. He played fastpitch softball with the Jack's Rose Hill team where they competed in several World Tournaments. Dick was employed at Appleton Papers - Locks Mill for 43 years retiring in 1996. At the mill he was a Quarter Century Club member and a Golden Apple recipient. Initially he was known at the mill by his nickname, "Canary" until a new employee asked where is that guy they call "The Bird." From that point on his current nickname "Bird" stuck with him.
He was a member of St Paul's Catholic Church in Combined Locks since 1958, as well as a member of the Combined Locks Advancement Association. Dick was involved in the community by volunteering his time as a pitching coach for the Kimberly High School softball team for 12 years. He gave free pitching clinics in his backyard for many years to anyone interested in learning how to pitch. He coached the women's Capital Credit Union softball team. In 1999, Dick and Priscilla were both inducted into the Kimberly High School Athletic Hall of Fame for their dedicated involvement to KHS sports programs. In 2003 the Cardinal Youth Softball organization honored Dick by naming their annual tournament the Dick Mulry Classic.
Dick also played ice hockey for the Ponds Sports Shop team. In 1970 he built a hockey rink in his yard that he flooded with a garden hose pulled through the basement window where all 5 of his children learned to play hockey. It became the neighborhood hangout. He enjoyed coaching and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. His hobbies included golfing and ice fishing with his family. The "Bird" was passionate about feeding the many birds and animals on his property.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Priscilla and 5 children: Ken (Sarah); Dave (Karen); Tim; Nancy (Kevin) Diedrich; Kerri (Edward) Young; and four grandchildren, Austin and Amanda Diedrich, and Merina and Shayden Young. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Jim (Karen); Don (Betty); Dan (Laura) and 1 sister: Alice Brandl; brothers-in-law: Jack Weber, Dick Deeg, Bob (Lois) Schmidt, and Al (Carol) Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents Basil and Vera Mulry; brother Jack Mulry; sisters Mary Jane Thomson, Leone Weber, Karen Hammen and Barbara Deeg. Brothers-in-law Bob Brandl, Jerry Thomson, and Jerry Schmidt. Sisters-in-law Rosemary Mulry and Dottie Schmidt.
The funeral liturgy for Dick will be at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at St Paul's Catholic Church, 410 E. Wallace St., Combined Locks with Father Andrew Kysely officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
