    Obituary:
    Urban Henry Riener, 85, went to be with the Lord July 15th, 2008, at St. Mary?s Hospital in Cottonwood, due to complications from cancer.
    He was born the son of Clem and Margaret Schmidt Riener on March 29th, 1923 in Cottonwood.
    As a young man, he worked at Hattrup's sawmill in Keuterville and during this employment, he lost his arm in an accident. He attended schools in Cottonwood, the University of Idaho and a Vo-Tech school in Wieser, Idaho. He returned to Cottonwood and went into business with his father, Clem, at Riener?s Motors. He purchased H & H Grocery Store from Mike Hilbert, changing the name to Riener?s Grocery. He sold the business to his son Gary when he retired in 1984 and continued helping, never missing a freight day for the next 24 years. Also, he enjoyed working in his shop and helping out on several farms running combine, tractors, or whatever was needed.
    He was an avid lover of life and all outdoor activities. He loved hunting, fishing, shooting trap and golf, having recorded two Holes-in-One on the Grangeville golf course. His biggest love was jet boating on the Salmon River. He has given joy to his family and many friends helping them catch their 1st steelhead. The highlight every year for Urbie, was taking the Bishop and several Catholic Priest's fishing on the river.
    He was a member of St. Mary Parish, The Knights of Columbus, a member of the Cottonwood Fire Department and the Grangeville Country Club.
    He married Rita Seubert at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Cottonwood on June 12th, 1945, and together they raised 16 children. The stories shared by his children about their dad provide endless hours of memories.
    He is survived by his wife, Rita, at the family home in Cottonwood; their 16 children which entails 10 sons: Thomas and wife Robin, John and wife Sherry, Gary, Donald (Barney) and friend Caroline, and Joe and wife Angie, all of Cottonwood, Dick and wife Kristi of New Plymouth, Harry and wife Jan of Boise, Jim and wife Kathy of Ferdinand, Dale and friend JoAnne of Lewiston, and Ken and friend Dana of Superior, MT; 6 daughters: Carla Riener of Clarkston WA, Betty Dunham and Cindy Ostrander and her husband James of Walla Walla, WA, Sharon Kinzer and husband Cliff of Craigmont, Jean Poxleitner and husband Phil of Grangeville, and Carrie NyGaard and husband Todd of Kamiah; 48 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; sisters Regina Hollandsworth and Loreen Madden DeShiell?s and her husband Hank of Cottonwood, Marcella Martinson of Red Bluff, CA, Maryanne Kirkes of Las Vegas, NV; Brother-in-Law Ben Seubert and wife Florence of Lewiston, and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by grandsons Jacob Riener and Olive twin boys; his parents, Clem and Maggie; 2 baby brothers, and son-in-law, David Dunham.
    All, especially his children, will remember him as he instilled strong work ethic and the determination to excel, succeed, and cherish life to the fullest.
    In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the charity of your choice.
    Funeral arrangements are under the direction of his grandson, Shaun Riener, of Blackmer
    Funeral Home in Grangeville, in conjunction with Uhlorn Funeral Home in Cottonwood for viewing facilities.
    Viewing will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008, from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., at Uhlorn Funeral Home in Cottonwood. The rosary will be recited on Monday, July 21, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Cottonwood, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00. Burial will conclude the services at Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Cottonwood Community Hall.
