    Obituary:
Reinhold Arthur Jochan Vogt, 101, of Sun City, Ariz., and formerly of Appleton, Wis., died July 4, 2012, in Sun City Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Aug. 15, 1910, in Appleton, Wis., the eldest of Philipp and Ida (Heise) Vogt's 11 children.
He married Agnes Wenzlaff on November 8, 1947, in Appleton, Wis., where they lived until moving to Sun City, Ariz., in 1977. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1993.
Family and friends called him Reinie.
Reinie was a chemist and earned his bachelor's degree at Lawrence University in 1932. He took specialized courses at the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton after graduating. He developed many different paper production and paper coating processes during his career in Wisconsin paper mills, which began as a lab assistant for Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids in 1928, while he was in college. He eventually reached positions of mill manager and president for Combined Paper Mills at Combined Locks, Wis. He retired in 1977 as vice president for environmental control for the Appleton Papers Division of National Cash Register Co. After retirement he was involved in the Sun Cities Paper Group.
A commissioned Navy officer and a veteran of World War II, he participated in the D-Day landings and served in the Pacific. He left active-duty in late December 1945 but remained in the reserve until resigning his commission in 1951.
His civic involvement in Wisconsin included nearly two decades with Boy Scouts of America. He received the Silver Beaver Award in 1965. He also was a board member of the Kaukauna Municipal Hospital in the late 1960s and served more than two years as an Outagamie County board supervisor in the mid-1970s.
Retiring in 1977 and moving to Arizona gave Reinie and Agnes more time to devote to their pastimes and their family. His favorite hobbies were gardening, woodworking, photography and traveling.
The Vogts loved working with the soil. Reinie began hybridizing gladiolus in Appleton and was active in the Fox Valley Gladiolus Society, Wisconsin Gladiolus Society and North American Gladiolus Council, and held leadership positions, including president, in all three. He received the NAGC's achievement award in 1991. Reinie belonged to the Sun City Ag Club. He earned his master gardener's certificate in 1982.
Boxes of slides catalog Reinie and Agnes's extensive travels, which included trips to the Holy Lands, Germany, Hawaii and Alaska along with destinations in the continental U.S.
Reinie's faith was the foundation in his life and he was active in several congregations - Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, Wis., Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Appleton, and American Lutheran Church of Sun City. Devotions were a part of his morning routine until his declining vision prevented it. Even after his sight failed, Reinie belted out entire hymns by heart during worship services. He often joked that he learned to sing strongly because his father was loud.
German was his first language and he was proud of his heritage, inspiring his granddaughters to learn and speak German too. As a freshman at Lawrence University, he had a minor part in the only German-language play ever presented there, "Minna von Barnhelm." After Agnes died he went to Germany annually to visit his cousins and their families.
Survivors include his son, John (Patricia) Vogt of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Melissa Vogt of Garrett, Ind., and Samantha (Scott) Lamberth of Spring Hill, Tenn.; three great-grandsons, Matthew and Mark Lamberth of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Mahweensa Marks of Garrett, Ind.; a sister, Virginia "Ginny" McDermott of Delaware; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; his parents, Philipp and Ida; six brothers, Rudolf Vogt, Robert Vogt, Roland Vogt, Gerhard Vogt, Ralph Vogt and Philip Vogt; and three sisters, Adeline Vogt, Helen Peotter and Elsie Simon.
Memorial services to be held at American Lutheran Church of Sun City, Arizona Wednesday, August 1, at 2 p.m. Interment services to be at Appleton Memorial Highland, Appleton, Wisconsin on July 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Lloyd R. Wallace Endowment Fund c/o American Lutheran Church of Sun City, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85373, or Hospice of Arizona, 19820 N. 7th Ave. Suite 130, Phoenix, AZ 85027.

    Military Service Awards:
On 06 June 1944. then SSgt. Vogt was assigned to I Company, 16th Infrantry, 1st Division (the Big Red One). Though originally assigned to the 94th Division, 376th Infantry, he had volunteered for a mission to "go to England", without knowing where this would eventually lead -- to a "Higgins boat" crossing the English Channel where he would be in the first wave to attack Fox Green Sector of Omaha Beach. Of the 44 men in his platoon in that boat, only 3 survived the landing to fight inland.
For saving the life of his Battalion Commander, Col. Benjamin E. Thurston, then MSgt Vogt was cited for the Congressional Medal of Honor. He declined this citation in exchange for a Battlefield Commission to Second Lt., though he was additionally awarded the Silver Star by General George S. Patton, personally.
His leadership in the taking of the German town of Grimsburg, without a shot, lead to him being awarded a Bronze Star. He would eventually earn a second Bronze Star as well as numerous other awards.

    Obituary:
Roland Henry Vogt, born November 23, 1921 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Phillip and Clara Vogt, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at Appleton Medical Center. He was one of 11 children.
Roland, known as "Rolly", attended Appleton High School, where he was a "miler" on the track team. He broke several city and state records, several of which stood for a number of decades. At the outbreak of World War II, he and 16 other Appleton natives volunteered for the Army Air Corps with the intention of forming a unit called the "Flying Foxes".
Unfit for the Air Corps due to health issues, he went to Lawrence University, but was drafted into the Army. Attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 94th Division, he volunteered to go to England
on an unknown mission. He found himself attached to the 1st Division and assigned to land in the first wave on Omaha Beach, D-Day, June 6, 1944. For actions during combat in France and Germany, he was awarded the Silver Star by General George S. Patton. Additionally, he was
awarded two Bronze Stars, and was made a Lieutenant through a Battlefield Commission. After the war, he ran for General Patton's Third Army Track Team while waiting to return home. A website has been established at http://www.unisrv.net/realheroes for historical information regarding his actions and experiences in World War II.
Upon his return, Rolly married his High School sweetheart, Grace Slattery and attended business school, receiving an Associate's degree while working at Badger Mills. His wife died in 1958, leaving
him with one son, James Jonathan. In 1961, he married Thelma Krempin of Winnepeg, Canada and fathered a second son, Jeffery Lorne. By this time was employed at Fox River Tractor company, eventually becoming the Purchasing Manager. He was also the first Certified Puchasing
Manager in the state of Wisconsin, with certification number 1. In 1969, he and his wife adopted their daughter, Hilary Marvene, through Lutheran Social Services. He was active in his church, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, as well as being an accomplished tenor and avid golfer.
After Fox River Tractor was purchased by Koerhing Company of England, Rolly retired. He was coaxed out of retirement to work first for Appleton Pattern Company and then C.B. Supply Company before finally retiring fully in 1987.
Until his first heart attack in 1985, he jogged six miles every night. In 1985, he had open-heart surgery at Appleton Medical Center. This surgery was repeated in 2001 to correct new blockages.
In 1993 he and his wife purchased a condominium in Phoenix, Arizona, where they spent their winters, maintaining their home in Appleton for the summer months. In 2001, they sold their house in Appleton in favor of a condominium on the north side of the city.
Rolly was known as a very outgoing and well-loved man who made lifelong friends with people everywhere he went.
In January of 2002, he underwent surgery a third time to implant a pacemaker. He died quietly of complications due to congestive heart failure surrounded by his family and assured by his unshakable faith.
He is survived by his brothers Rheinhold, Phillip and sisters Adeline, Elsie and Virginia,as well as wife Thelma, sons James (Laurie) and Jeffery (Mary Ann), daughter Hilary (David), and three grandchildren David, Daniel and Heidi.
    "He fought the good fight.

    Notes:

    Obituary:
Jeffery "J.T." Vogt, In the early morning of September 5, surrounded by family, our beloved Jeff "JT" returned to the loving arms of his parents Rolly and Thelma, who were waiting for him across the bridge in Heaven.
A true renaissance man, Jeff had a wide array of interests and sharp intellect, which he pursued fully and loved to share with his friends and family, though only the brave among us would dare to engage him in spirited games of trivia which he rarely lost! Jeff's vast personal library reflects his eclectic tastes and pursuits, as well as a deep love of family as seen in his proud preservation of his father's WWII memorabilia. Science, aviation, the Cosmos, Far Eastern philosophy, history, music, politics... he was fluent in French, taught T'ai Chi, conducted nature walks for school children on his property The Meadows in Black Creek, and was "The Computer Guy" on local talk radio WOSH for several years until cancer robbed him of his distinctive voice. He had an irreverent sense of humor and infectious laugh which will be forever missed by all who knew him. Jeff loved animals, sharing a special bond with his many dogs who became part of the family. He will be remembered as a wonderful friend who shared generously of his time and talents to those in need.
Jeff's bravery and steadfast determination not to allow this devastating disease to define his life were hallmarks of his character and has proven to be a lasting legacy and example how to make the most of life, and face the end with grace, dignity and faith in the Lord.
Grieving with his wife Mary Anne are their children Michael and Jennifer, for whom he became a loving and forgiving father, brother James (Laurie), sister Hilary (Rick Mucino), nephews David, Danny, Alex, Mitch, Marty and nieces Heidi, Kiri and Kali. He is also surrounded in the love of his Auntie Bobbie (Roloff), Uncle George and Aunt Rita (Krempin), Aunt Janice and Uncle Phil (Wahl) and Aunt Ginny (McDermott). Many cousins and countless friends also mourn his absence.
Floral tributes are welcome, as well as contributions for the establishment of the Jeffery L. and Mary Anne Vogt Memorial Foundation. It was Jeff's explicit wish to be remembered through the lasting legacy of this foundation, all proceeds of which will be used both to promote cancer research and to sponsor a scholarship to the Arthur Krempin School of Music.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, 912 N. Oneida St. Appleton at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
