    Bernard E. Ernst, 88 joined his wife Dorothy on Thursday Dec. 14, 2006. He was born in Marion, Wis. on Aug. 22, 1918, to Fred W. and Rose (Schmidt) Ernst. His family moved to Appleton and he graduated from Appleton High School in 1936. He and Harold Helms formed a small business in Appleton called Snappy Delivery. When Bernard met Dorothy Mollon he knew he wanted to marry her. They married on January 6, 1940, and spent 66 years together until her death on Dec. 5, 2006. Bernard joined the Army in 1943, and was in 1251st Engineer Combat Battalion, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. Bernard received an honorable discharge on March 26, 1946. Bernard was a salesman and he enjoyed serving and working with the general public all his life. He and Dorothy owned a tavern in Mattoon, then sold automobiles for Rudolph Motors, sold city directories for Johnson Publishing, and later worked for Tusler Pontiac until his first retirement. He worked part time after he retired for Mike's Town and Country and finally Bergstrom Motors delivering cars until he was 84. He and Dorothy had a wonderful life together golfing, bowling, dancing, traveling and partying with their many friends. He also enjoyed motorcycling and attending Packer games. Bernie and Dorothy belonged to the Appleton Motorcycle Club in the 1940's and 1950's. Bernard was raised in the Lutheran religion but surprised Dorothy by becoming a Catholic on the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Appleton. They were able to live on Chain Drive for 50 years with the help of their many caring neighbors.
    Bernard is survived by his nephew, Bob (Dean) Fischer, Phoenix, Arizona, and their 7 children and their families; niece, Joyce Fischer Williams, Dayton, Ohio, and her children, Michael Williams and his wife, Anna and their children, Ben, Valkyrie, Davyn, and Aengys, Middletown, Ohio; Jim (Lisa) Williams and their sons, Taylor, Chandler, and Dalton, New Baden, Ill., Joe (Laura) Williams and their children, Emeric, Emily, and Elaena of Crest Hill, Ill.; and John (Becky) Williams, Powder Springs, Ga.; nephew, Michael (Mary) Mollon and their children, Eric, and Kate (Mike) Merryfield; nephew, Jim (Linda) Mollon and their son, Brady; niece, Tracy (Scott) Bastar and their sons, Bryce and Brandon; niece, Patricia Baldwin and her daughter Nandi; niece, Joyce (Charlie) Fisher and their children, Louis (Marisa) and their daughter, Natalie, Lucy, Lindsey, and Lucas Fisher; niece, Suzanne (Jack) Welhouse and their children, Jacob, Anna, and Ruth; niece, Mary (Andy) Wegner of Winneconne and her two daughters, Laurie Depies and Julie (Dan) Kinart and their son, Ethan; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Vera Mollon.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Beatrice (Clarence) Fischer; his in-laws, Bill (Bea) Mollon, and Mary (Ray) Martin.
    Come and share your stories at a Memorial Service for Bernard on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at 11:30 a.m., at the Valley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial of cremains will be at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Princeton at a later date.
    The family would like to extend their thanks to Renaissance Assisted Living and Franciscan Care Center for their care and compassion for Bernard and Dorothy.
