    Obituary:
    Joseph "Joe" F. Schwalbach, age 85, of Combined Locks, passed away July 19, 2008. He was born August 20, 1922, in the Town of Harrison to the late George and Catherine (Renn) Schwalbach.
    On November 5, 1942, Joe married the former Eulalia "Lila" Steidl in Kaukauna. The couple farmed in the Darboy and Sherwood areas. Joe also worked for Gilbert Paper Co. in Menasha for over 30 years. Joe enjoyed playing sheepshead and went on the weekly horse driven "sheepshead wagon." He enjoyed bowling, going to the casinos and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Combined Locks. Joe was a very proud charter member of the Calumet County 40 et 8 Voyager 1434. He was a loyal 63-year member of the Darboy and Sherwood Legions where he served as a past commander of both; he was also a past commander of the VFW Post in Combined Locks. Joe was a past president of the Gilbert Paper Co. Paperworkers Union.
    He is survived by his wife of 65+ years, Lila, Combined Locks; their five children: Joe E. (Mary) Schwalbach, Sherwood; Marianne Heckner, Stoughton, WI, Ellen (Leonard) Opsteen, Kimberly; Susan (Ray) Palm, Town of Harrison; and Frank (Peg) Schwalbach, Stockbridge; 19 grandchildren, 20, great-grandchildren, two sisters: Erma Wittman, Appleton; and Sue Miller, Kimberly; two sisters-in-law: Lorraine (Honey) Schwalbach, Little Chute; and Vera Schwalbach, Darboy. He is further survived by his wife's family: Connie Geiger, Helen (Richard) Van Handel, and Ed (Marge) Steidl.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers: George and Paul; sisters and brothers-in-law: Joseph Wittmann, Lucille (Carl) Grassl, Alice (John) Dietzen, George Schwalbach, Stella (Cyril) Klein, Hilary Miller, Kathryn (Leroy) Klein, Henrietta (Howard) Theisen. He was further preceded in death by his wife's family: father and mother-in-law: Ed and Helen Steidl, and brothers-in-law: Ken Geiger and Jack Steidl.
    The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Friends will be received on Friday, August 1, 2008, at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. concluding the evening. Friends may call again on Saturday directly at Church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial to take place in Holy Angles Cemetery, Darboy with Full Military Rites being performed. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in his name. 920-766-2099.
